For 2017 let's hope there are less dead bodies as a result of the war on terror, I mean the race for petrodollars. I feel bad for everyone that was rooting for Hillary as we all thought she would win. It's an awful waste of money and effort on that campaign that ultimately amounted to nothing. Investing millions into http://correctrecord.org/ in an attempt to manipulate social media such as Reddit thus winning the public vote. Thanks to the Great Decider Chief Justice John Roberts and his execution of the Voting Rights Act with Shelby County, voter turnout was down by around 7 million and voter suppression in North Carolina probably handed it to Trump.

Even that can't be a excuse for the 46% of registered voters who abstained.I think a section of American people have became so comfortable with their livings that they don't even bother to take a look on global affairs and how those are connected with their own fortune,they are totally ignorant of how their own indecision can start a chain of events that will eventually come back to haunt them.
Melodramatic or not,i sincerely wish this Trump presidency will turn out to be as catastrophic as one can expect,so that people learn it hard way….....

This will be my final post in this thread as it is time to move on.

This election proved one thing, that the Left has become too lazy and cowardly, and that their rush to force equality down the throats of an electorate who was NOT ready for it, has led to this damning backlash. Everything that the alt-right, gamergate, etc was saying about the world was ratified by the American Republic today. I don't like that, and i'm sure many here do not. But it is the truth.

The Left and Progressives will either be galvanized into a new age of politics, or they will be shoved into the corner by the establishment and never allowed a place at the table again. To those young voters who sat it out, let the next four years be a lesson in not allowing to compromise, to do a little evil for a greater good. Your "guy" is never going to be perfect, and your smug satisfaction in not voting for who gets the nomination isn't worth the damnation that many will suffer through because of it.

To the Right. Enjoy this, for it may be your last moment in the sun. For this election was the Boomer's last, final middle finger at the new generation.

Compulsory voting (with the option to formally abstain, meaning you would still need to get off your ass anyway in order to not vote). This is how we do it in my country and several others.

Alternatively, get rid of the Electoral College, so that people from heavy red areas don't feel like their vote is a waste if they go against their state tendency.

None of those are likely though.

Getting rid of the first-past-the-post system and replacing it would be nice too. There are many alternatives including our own , uh, "second turn election?" when a candidate doesn't get a majority.

! Guy, don't hate on me, but I voted Trump. I thought the candidates were equally detestable, and I was like "okay, I'll flip a coin a few times, heads for Hillary, tails for Trump." It was my first presidential election, and I wanted to vote, so don't tell me I shouldn't have voted. Now I'm kinda regretting that, knowing that Republicans have complete control of everything and all (I thought the dems would've kept the senate at least), but its not like if I threw my vote at Hillary, things would've changed (I live in Ohio). With that said, lets hope Trump is somehow a competent president, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Day to day life is still continuing here in Boston, though there is a subdued touch to things wherever I go, and far more people are buried in their smartphones that usual. I wonder how bad the atmosphere at work is going to be, since there are a lot of first-generation immigrants and PoC employed there. I was definitely edges this morning and told my roommate off for saying "we" elected "a pumpkin" as president.

Hillary her campaign and the democrats failed that all it comes down to in the end. Blaming the electorate is all good but,many of those who didn't vote for hillary were swing voters.The blame of not getting those votes should rest entirely on the losers.

Hillary wasn't the right candidate,democrats should learn their lessons from what happened today and act accordingly.

It's going to be pretty hard for any candidate to convince a section of the electorate who know nothing about politics or won't vote for arbitrary reasons to vote for them if these people have made up their mind beforehand not to vote and in turn when one party has essentially been
pissing on voting rights the last 5-6 years. It's not because they chose the "wrong" candidate.

Turnout was down by about seven million votes from 2012; Trump will actually finish with less votes than Romney got.

A big chunk of that was voter suppression but more of it was outright apathy.
