RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced

Eight episodes, huh? Maybe they are cutting Logue Town? They still haven't revealed Smoker and Tashigi's actors.
The creators of Warrior Nun (I think it was Warrior Nun) talked about how Netflix decided to cut down all their original content series to 8 episodes per season with longer running times per episode. This is a cost-cutting measure (you have to pay less writers) and is in fact one of the many reasons the WGA is striking right now, with Netflix being the most unwilling of all the companies to strike a favourable deal.

What do you mean by "Netflix is burying it"?
Multiple people have claimed Netflix is not doing much to advertize this show because they’re sitting on a huge flop.

RE: X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!
@pariston_hill said in X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!:
So I heard they mischaracterized Cap in the last episode to make the X-men look better (an awful trend in X-books). Of all the other supes Steve is the one that has been most supportive of them when against governments abuse.
I think it’s mostly MCU fans exaggerating how “poorly” Cap is written because they ALWAYS get mad when their hippie dippy libbie chris evans isn’t depicted as perfect. Copypasta-ing from what someone else said on a different place:
I don't agree with the idea anyone was torn down this episode. This kinda feels like the sense among fandom in that they want their characters to be perfect pictures of never-being-wrong-never-being-in-conflict that really destroys stories. Characters can have flaws and those flaws are not "tearing them down".
Steve and Rogue both have perfectly valid positions in this episode. Neither of them are morally incorrect and neither of them are acting perfectly. But those positions are still at odds and cause conflcit. That is literally one of the best forms of conflict.
Steve is right in pointing out that Rogue's rampage tips off the bad guys about how close she is getting and gives them time to escape. He is also right in acknowledging that Captain America, symbol of the American dream, going to Mexico unauthorized, beating up Mexicans and causing chaos in their communities is not a good thing and not going to go well. If anything, Steve's rigid morality is the best part about him because it can be a great thing and a flaw depending on the situation.
Rogue meanwhile is perfectly valid to be pissed and not playing nice given a genocide just occurred, she is perfectly valid to want Cap to stand up publicly for mutants and bring the people accountable, and perfectly valid to be pissed that he can't act immediately. That doesn't make Cap wrong, that just means that they have different positions that are opposed. They are both right and both flawed. That is good.Of course that’s still better than most of 21st century (616) comicsCaptain America where he is written as either a bigoted government tool or a libertarian bombthrower.

RE: Western Comics thread
Jean Grey was last the Phoenix in 2003 (some minis and cameos aside that not even marvel writers want to acknowledge). Since then we’ve had the Stepford Cuckoos, Quentin Quire, Hope, Cyclops, Colossus, Namor, Magik, Emma Frost, Wolverine-From-The-Future (not to be confused with Old Man Logan) and Echo as the Phoenix (Echo even had her own Phoenix miniseries). “The Phoenix Host” has lost all meaning, but that also makes Jean as the Phoenix again kind of novel.
Anyway, I’m glad she’s fucked off to space, because she’s been exclusively written as little miss perfect, omega level powerful, ultra empathy from the moment she returned from the dead 6 years ago. Like, not a single memorable moment that isn’t her speechifying or doing a feat.

The third episode was loosely (very loosely) based on Inferno, which took 10 issues in the original comic, (not counting all the tie ins which brought it up to about 40 issues crossing over with all the titles, including Spiderman and Daredevil.. )
Crossovers that ranged from going all in to "Well, I guess we're doing this now" to the comic just vaguely referencing it and moving on.
It's been a while but it feels like Thor was one of those titles that just sorta acknowledged it was going on off-screen but didn't really care that much. Which, if you'd think anybody would have been concerned with a demonic invasion of Earth, it'd be Thor. Well, him or Stephen Strange but I don't think there was even a Doctor Strange title at the time.
On the other end of the spectrum was, of all possible titles to do that with, Power Pack, which not only went all in on the Inferno crossover but even used it to deal with the only real recurring human antagonist the series had.
I think every ongoing Spider-Man title at the time tied into Inferno (J.M. DeMatteis’s tie-ins were bangers). They never even bothered creating a connection between the various Goblins and Goblin Queen though (thankfully).

I'm assuming y'all didn't read DeMayo's statement about the tonne he wanted for ep5...
I liked the final part of that message where he said there is a choice between “social justice” and, as Magneto put it, “social healing”, implying these things are at odds with each other (and the former is bad).

RE: Western Comics thread
Apparently, Marvel will no longer be releasing books in hardcover, the only exceptions being omnibuses and masterworks. Even event comics like Blood Hunt and Fall/Rise of Hoxpox are only being released in paperback.
The GODS paperback is being released in August: https://www.amazon.com/G-D-S-Jonathan-Hickman/dp/1302948598/

Gears and Gambits is the worst mini-game. Even the developers were like, "Yeah, we know this mini-game sucks, so here's an optimization option you can use and we won't penalize you for it."
It’s like a shitty fort condor (why I am bad at but at least it has a lot of charm) and unfortunaly also hides some great subplot content about avalanche that many players won’t get to experience.

X-Men looks good. Lot of big personalities one one team can create some fun dynamics. Mackay’s Avengers is bad though.
Uncanny X-Men is the TAS ‘97 synergy team, not touching that.
Exceptional X-Men… sigh. When will they learn nobody will latch on to new student characters? Especially one where the new characters outnumber the established characters? This will be done by year’s end.
