RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced

Eight episodes, huh? Maybe they are cutting Logue Town? They still haven't revealed Smoker and Tashigi's actors.
The creators of Warrior Nun (I think it was Warrior Nun) talked about how Netflix decided to cut down all their original content series to 8 episodes per season with longer running times per episode. This is a cost-cutting measure (you have to pay less writers) and is in fact one of the many reasons the WGA is striking right now, with Netflix being the most unwilling of all the companies to strike a favourable deal.

What do you mean by "Netflix is burying it"?
Multiple people have claimed Netflix is not doing much to advertize this show because they’re sitting on a huge flop.

No cringe dialogue, nice set and costumes, well-acted.
This is actually shaping up to be decent. I can' believe it.
And the dish Sanji prepares is out of the One Piece cookbook.

RE: Western Comics thread
X-Men looks good. Lot of big personalities one one team can create some fun dynamics. Mackay’s Avengers is bad though.
Uncanny X-Men is the TAS ‘97 synergy team, not touching that.
Exceptional X-Men… sigh. When will they learn nobody will latch on to new student characters? Especially one where the new characters outnumber the established characters? This will be done by year’s end.

RE: Academy Awards
@Nobodyman said in Academy Awards:
@Kaiolino Good to know. Thanks. But now I wonder why it was nominated for anything else. Is the French government not needed for the other categories?
Congrats Cillian!
Nolan finally gets his Oscar win!
The Academy members in their respective fields vote on who to nominate for the other categories (and best film is of course voted on by every Academy member). Best foreign film (and short) is one film submitted by any given country’s film organization or government.

RE: Academy Awards
The reason Anatomy of A Fall wasn’t nominated for best foreign film is because Justine Triet criticized the French government and so they submitted something else out of spite.

For now he’s only in a wheelchair on a cover.
But with the upcoming relaunch seeming to take its inspiration from TAS, all bets are off.

RE: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
I’m about to enter the final lap of the story. The only things I didn’t do are completing the minigames, the final side quest (which involves getting high scores in all of the minigames), the optional boss lap and Johnny’s trophy room.
The clock is at 70 hours now and doing the above would probably add another 10-20 hours. So congratulations to Square for creating a genuinely long and full game for the first time in forever.

RE: Lupin the 3rd
Some stray thoughts after watching the first 8 specials
- I really like the dynamic when Lupin, Jigen and Fujiko are together. Reminds me of early OP Luffy, Zoro and Nami
- Conversely, I can’t get a handle at all on Goemon. He’s boring and his bit in each special is the same. Zenigata is great.
- I think I liked the looser art style from the first four specials more than the more traditional ‘90s shonen art style from the fifth special onwards
- While the quality of the specials varied, the only special that was truly awful was the eighth one (the one in Morocco). The gay villain (the crossdressing nazi from the seventh special gets a pass because of the pun in his name), the constant nudity, the needlessly complicated backstory of the feuding parties… what the hell. And while I’m hardly a Lupin III expert after 9 specials total, I feel like Lupin and Fujiko actually having sex takes a lot out of their dynamic.

@Kaiolino
The Adversary Saga? Those Old Racist Supes Raven recruits? Dracula stuff?It looks like they’re doing Inferno for the first season. Probably something like Operation Zero Tolerance for the second season.

RE: X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!
The implication of the showrunner’s interviews (and combative interactions with comic book fans on twitter) imply they will adapt more ‘80s and ‘90s stories.
