RE: What Anime Are You Watching?
Japan's copyright laws are less strict and in general I think Japanese companies are less aggressive about this kind of thing. I doubt there's any major people who worked on Utena on the staff but maybe there is. I don't think that would fix anything though even if it were true.

RE: General Gundam Thread
A lot of people don't like ZZ. I think the earlier episodes are a nice change of pace from Zeta (especially since I think it aired the very next week with no break) and I think ZZ has one of the strongest casts of Tomino's Gundams.

RE: What Anime Are You Watching?
It's pretty much impossible to go into that series completely blind, but I think I have a pretty minimal knowledge of it despite that and am interested in seeing the context of one specific scene that people probably know what I'm talking about.

RE: What Anime Are You Watching?
Finished Amagami SS today. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the series. All the girls are nice and make for good stories and having it be split between them in basically an alternate timeline setup was pretty interesting and made it so that every minute of each episode was used well. It made me want to play the VN. I've yet to actually force myself to sit down and play/read any VN though. Next I'm going to finally watch Code Geass.

RE: Sengoku Youko
Not as pessimistic as with Biscuit Hammer (especially since White Fox are a decent studio) but still not expecting much, especially since SY seems harder to adapt well.

RE: Yugioh Abridged
I don't even remember where I left off. If an episode was released a year ago I don't know if I would have even watched that one.

RE: General Gundam Thread
I liked ZZ too. The tone never really bothered me, though I waited a decent amount of time before starting it (to the extent that I'd completely forgotten who Yazan was). And I think it has a fun cast, and good female characters since one of your problems was supposedly dumbing down Fa. Not as good as 0079 and Zeta definitely, but still enjoyable. Victory is honestly my least favorite of the mainline TV series. I know some people do like it but it felt like it didn't justify its length and felt more repetitive than the other stuff to me. Turn A is up there with 0079 and Zeta for me. And of course 0080 is great.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
Had no expectations but it's funny seeing this actually existing. I don't like the guy playing Luffy's accent for the role and I echo some of the stuff about it looking like cosplay or "fake". Contrary to D.aelthasaar's post, I think it looks too filtered for some reason. I'm not big on things like color grading in general (at least to the extent it's done in a lot of movies) and despite a lot of this seeming to be actually built sets (they were touting that a lot before) everything still looks fake. Most of the characters from the trailer look off too. I don't know why this exists.

RE: What manga are you reading and how do you like it? What do you plan to read?
About to finish the manga Kouya ni Kemono Doukokusu and have some thoughts on it.
Really did not expect too much from it at first. It suffers from something that isn't uncommon in manga where the cover art looks nothing like the manga itself. Based on the cover art and the synopsis I thought it would be some kind of b-movie type horror series with human animal hybrid monsters. And honestly it might give that off at the start. But the mangaka is absolutely obsessed with ancient central American history and culture and it's really cool to see all that he puts into the series in that regard. Specifically the Mayan are a big part of the series and a large chunk of the series takes place in the Yucatan and there are many indigenous characters of that region. The series often feels partially like something you'd see on the History channel, with a lot of cool information about the Mayans and other related civilizations. There are even differently shaped speech bubbles to denote when characters are speaking Japanese, Spanish, and Mayan. And it's hilarious that the central characters (including the main antagonist) are essentially intellectuals that spend a lot of time talking about complex topics of Mayan anthropology and such, among other things.
And that's not even considering how good the action in the series is and that the art is fantastic. This might be one of the series that has improved the most for me over its run time. This series must have been a nightmare to translate too, with the kinds of topics it covers, and the person translating it has really good notes pages at the end of chapters. The name of the series is also impossible for me to remember

RE: Witch Hat Atelier
I honestly have no idea where this series is going anymore. The original roadmap was doing the witch trials to get access to the library. This arc seemed like it was going to be a side thing but it's gone on for quite a while and based on what's happening (quite a few brimhats attacking) it seems like it should be important, but I don't really know where it's leading. The king-doctor of the country seems like he should be important too, and more of the characters are questioning the ban on magic (while at the same time seeing what kinds of terrible things unrestricted magic can do), but right now we feel like we've gone on a lengthy detour from the the plot.
IIRC, Agathe's mom, who is also the person running the library, is here, so maybe we'll circle around to that at some point with something involving her.

RE: Dungeon Meshi
We are getting the feast that everyone has been looking forward to the whole series.
