Yeah call me a sensitive westerner if you must but it hits different when you hear a crowd shouting in unison the kurozumi were meant to burn. Like if Tama was one and said hah flame can't hurt me i'm a kurozumi we were born to burn, that works as an odd boast. But when used as a cheerful community chant against them it gets a little weird, pun or no pun. One is arguably an endearing quirk, the other feels like more of what got them into this mess in the first place. But honestly this wouldn't have hit as bad if Oda hadn't written Fishman island as wonderfully reflective as he did. He raised the bar too high and now he's smacking his head right into the bar with full force.

Personally i felt that the vinsmoke melodrama added nothing of value to who he is or what made him tick, all it did was taint the good groundwork he had laid in the east blue arcs.

Just generally speaking, if someone is a workaholic to self destructive levels, i would argue that the employer should have a moral obligation to step in and ensure a sane(r) work schedule. Help those who cannot help themselves and all that stuff. But that's the unremarkable scandi in me talking, who'd rather not die on the way to greatness.

The mystery never really engaged me so i'm just glad the whole thing is settled. Bring on the marines with kooky DFs and get this show on the road

The Great 'Is Shanks a Horrible Man' Debate rages on!
The Sanctimonious Moral Scolds seem to still think 'YES'
Semi-Sociopaths on the other hand are still leaning towards 'what? no.' camp. (we are right. screw you)
Everyone else is getting kinda bored at the discussion!

The gigant pirate crew has a certain vibe, the various randoms shown in this chapter reminds me of something. Are they a reference to something?
Oda noted that Vicky the Viking influenced his growth as an artist, some of the giants share extreme resemblance to the main cast of that show. Oimo and Kashi especially, but the fresh faces in this chapter and the last share roughly the same features. Basically the Vicky crew, just in a badass style.
Oh that could be it, i definitely saw that show when i was little.

Finding out about Zoro’s ancestors wouldn’t have done anything for his character. It could maybe be an arc for the citizens of Wano, about changing their relationship with the outside world, seeing how leaving could be a good thing, since Zoro was a mix of Wano culture and world knowledge, helping the land of his ancestors
Finding out that Sanji is a nazi prince didn't do much for his character either. But Oda went and did that anyhow

If Oda didn't want his fights to get serious, maybe he should have kept the plot more lighthearted. We've been getting progressively darker and bloodier arcs. The main character has to act accordingly if they have an ounce of empathy. Can't just fix that by giving them a laughing pill and make them move funny
The joke isn't funny if the mark is in on it.
