    • RE: The One Piece Music Thread

Tanaka Kohei has been pretty active in discussing his work on One Piece lately, even providing names of the recent tracks from 1072.

"Drum of Liberation (My Highest Point)"
"Luffy Gear 5 Battle (tentative title)"
      'I was cornered'
      『Over The Top』
      “Luffy Awakens (tentative title)”

A new soundtrack album "GEAR 5" was announced last week. It will be released next year.

You can listen to "My Highest Point" (or perhaps "My Peak"?) right now on Spotify:

Mind that this is the trailer, material they deem to be A++.

Exactly, Bebop looked very well, perhaps better than the One Piece trailer, but ignoring the story the final product just didn't look as great.

Luffy has some weird vibes going on with his clothing. The leather strap for the straw hat is a bit much, looks like he's wearing a helmet in some scenes. Paired with the shoes and the different t-shirts seen in the trailer, he loses the care-free bohemian feel of the original character.

In general all the clothing looks too clean-cut without any signs of wear or texture, which in-turn makes much of it looks quite cheap (similar thing with Bebop), but Nami gets it right with the skirt.

    • RE: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

It's an easy to digest, action-packed, 90-minute family film to excite Mario fans, and introduce newcomers (children), establishing the Mario universe.

It's not meant to appeal to any audience expecting vast storytelling. It's not filled with underlying complex themes or vast expansions to the simplistic nature of the franchise. Even some Pixar movies have become pretentious and repetitive after striving to tick so many boxes.

At this rate, it's entirely possible they'll announce a simuldub before having dubbed/released every episode up to the current broadcast.

2023 will be huge for the franchise, given the events in the anime and the live action. It would be a big missed opportunity if they don't kick off a simuldub next year.

How easy will it be to change costume design? Seeing the same signature outfits just doesn't sell it as fresh experience...

The staff did very well in not spoiling King's face reveal. The end-of-episode card art updated, something only shown in the broadcast version afaik:

      • First black and white stills of Kid's memory looked fantastic. The downside was that the scene was a little too slow, some added voices could have enhanced it
      • Momo's flashbacks sakuga flashbacks were nice but unnecessary
      • The Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z eye catch references were interesting, could this be the first time the series has referenced another show?
      • The cuts between Momo/Onigishima and the capital were horrible...
      • All the Kid, Law and Big Mom scenes were chef's kiss 11/10. Henry is KING
      • Happy that Shida didn't work on any shots focused on character design, although it's still jarring, the special effects shots work more to his strengths

    • RE: 1075: ''Twenty Years of Prayer! Take Back the Land of Wano''

That was exactly the summary which viewers and readers needed for the final blow of Wano to hit home. What a fantastic summary of roughly 180 episodes of the Wano arc.

The upcoming episode doesn't appear great at all from the preview. Heavily outsourced, off-model, and is that Shida animation? Only preview shot which looks nice is Momo.

Although it's weird that we're seeing a new opening at the final stages of the arc, much better than having Paint continue to over-run its course. 14 chapters of the Wano arc remain so the new opening will easily continue until the end of 2023, and if there are filler episodes within Wano then it will continue even further. A post-Wano filler arc too?

Anyone know what this translates to? Who is the shadow?

New BGM is up on Spotify (just one track) and a whole album will be released early next year: https://open.spotify.com/album/3LIV7v8sthlx3K5P13Y8R3

Thoughts on what bad about this episode:
Not necessarily bad but the opening sequence was awkward at its new length, like an Adult Swim edit
Kaido's presence not at all threatening in CGI, samey Shida animation
Pacing was bad, but who cares because hopefully someone can edit those flashback out and make a 'One Pace' version
It was a super difficult to tell what was happening when Luffy lifted and reflected Kaido's attack back, unlike in the manga
      That rapid "G E A R 5" text was unnecessary

    • RE: Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ)

With One Piece being a weekly anime these new recap episodes are exactly what was needed thing to increase the quality of the main anime, especially now with the huge increase of talent and effort. Toei still gets the same sponsorship, revenue from home media, and packaged episode count to other countries. If there is one less main episode as a result it's still worth it for better episodes.
