So Queen is that type of villain? Okay that's evil alright.

**Eiichiro Oda
I want to go to the airport just for Pikmin. And also the movie theater, the zoo, and the beach!**
Thanks for posting Oda's author comments as always, Shift!
Trivia: There is a reason why geisha Osome's pet is a "mouse". Osome (お染) means "dye". About 200 years ago, geishas in Fukagawa region were known to wear a gray-dyed kimono. Its color was called Fukagawa Mouse (深川鼠). Oda's research skill is amazing.
So Queen is that type of villain? Okay that's evil alright.
Yeah, that Stephen's translation is pretty accurate to the raw text
Who needs Raid Suit if you have Armament Haki?

Because Sanji had repeatedly told him not to. They may be enemies trying to kill each other, but that doesn't mean they can't show respect. If I was the grandson of Hitler and had my name legally changed and you still called me by it (after I asked you not to) and constantly brought up Adolph Hitler, it would be fair to be offended.

I would be pissed too to be part of that family. But what Queen said isn't wrong in itself. And calling it "evil" isn't quite correct. Lots of people in real life say that line without being "evil" or anything close to it.
But I guess that depends on everyone's moral values.
Anyway, this here, and the stuff about Jinbei calling Who'sWho a racist. Oda is going all political these times. (not that it didn't happen in the past)

Jabra is obviously making a joke and Oda has been political for a long time. It's part of what makes One Piece so good.
Another great chapter, though I could see Queen having one last trick up his sleeve
Guess Judge did mad science better huh.

Ahahahah
Thanks, I somehow failed to put those pieces together.
Just noticed that the BeastPirates have a huge harem on Onigashima… This or I forgot something, which is likely too.

They are Oirans that came from the capital, actually.

Poison Queen? I forgot what powers from Reiju comes from Germa science or unnamed DF.
The first time sanji used jambe he two shot jabra. Now he hit queen Like 5 Times with the new jambe, so he should be down.

He also hit a girl who refused his advances.
Is there a Shonen Jump 2022 issue/release date list that anyone knows of? The Shonen Jump app lists the One Piece 1035 release date as 12/12, but Manga Plus lists it as 12/19. I’m sure this has to do with holiday issues, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was messing something up.

it shoulld be 12/19, One Piece is absent from Jump next week.
Cool chapter, but neither Sanji's upgrade nor the reveal that it was Queen all along who hit the lady work too well for me.
The power-up because "now I'm tougher so I can do the same as before but hotter" is really unimaginative. I wasn't keeping my hopes too high for a Newkama mode Sanji, but come on, Oda can do better than recycle the same old with a different name.
The lady part works on paper, but the way the chapter tells it is very clunky. Like, Sanji is hiding near the ceiling and suddenly has this realization that invisible Queen must have done the deed because…Because what ? As far as I can tell Queen didn't say anything about his relation to the girl.
He's watching him on the way to attack her (thanks CoO).
Not liking the translations of Sanji's attacks. There must be some explanation behind Viz choices, but as a French, it doesn't make me happy to see english words randomly inserted like that on every attacks even the 100% french ones.
Ok, I’m confused is ifrit jambe on both legs or not? The first kick seems to be but I can’t tell after that.
Ok, I’m confused is ifrit jambe on both legs or not? The first kick seems to be but I can’t tell after that.
There's clearly flames on both feet on the last panel of the Ifrit page, plus we first see the right leg catching fire yet the Collier Coup is a left leg kick. Afterwards it's less clear, but I would assume both legs have equal fire capabilities.
I re-read the chapter by the way and, yeah, in addition to the powerup being rather bland, the final choregraphy is underwhelming as well. Tiny panels with lots of attack names to make up for the lack of visual interest aren't really cutting it as far as I'm concerned.
Not to mention the oiran and her mouse. I'm not shocked that Sanji is able to catch Queen off-guard - a second of inattention can make or break a fight of this level, no protests from me. But as far as reasons go, the girl is a clumsy one. If it had been Komurasaki herself (whom Queen thought dead to top it off) I could have bought it, but since neither mouse-girl nor Queen's interest in her existed until 2 chapters ago, the whole sequence feels really forced

Sanji's specialty is Observation Haki, so I'm guessing he could sense Queen approaching Osome. Combined with realizing that he's not the only one who can turn invisible, he probably put it together.
I can't wait to see Ifrit Jambe in official colors. Damn but the waiting will be so long.

Unless Oda put some cover or color spread, it will not happen before like 40 episodes, almost a year.

I'm on the same boat. At least the Boef Burst panel is great, but the tiny panels have next to no impact. You could even cut those panels and Sanji's Boef Burst panel would still work well.

I know… But maybe some promo material or something. Please Oda

I somehow hope that Queen will manage to get back up and try one last attack using his own virus/ toxic weapon to take out Sanji.
As someone mentioned in spoiler thread Queen using Ice Demon on himself would be cool. That or some different virus we didnt seen yet.
For finisher of fight I expected Concasse that would send Queen few floors below and knock him out.. still hoping for that as Zoro vs King and Luffy vs Kaido somehow does not feel to be like chapter or two away from conclusion so who knows really. Would be weird to already finish this fight.

Agreed, but this is part of why I call the sequence clunky. On-panel action doesn't really indicate that it has anything to do with haki or Sanji sensing Queen's intention; I had to pause and think a bit before it made sense. And because until now Queen had no history with this girl that we knew of, it feels completely artificial that he lost focus of the fight (twice !) to slap her. Also if he was in that same corridor earlier (chap.1031) when Sanji witnessed the girl being hurt, why didn't Sanji's observation haki react back then ? "I was lost in thought" is a little weak as an excuse, even if Sanji was still shocked by his recent Germa transformation.
All in all I can take the fight for what it is. I'm glad to see Sanji getting some focus and it's certainly not enough to tarnish Queen's otherwise stellar performance the whole arc. But conclusion or not, today's sequence is certainly lackluster compared to the diplodosnake or when Sanji unlocked his exoskeleton.
Ok chapter, but it didn't really feel like Sanji countered anything Queen did. He just … took the attacks face-on and then started kicking him. I hope that's not it, but wouldn't be surprised if it is. Somehow King turned out to be more of a puzzle than Queen, which is a little disappointing.
Yeah, the Ifrit isn't very impactful at all. I don't want newkama Sanji, but I do want something that visually relays his progression. On a bright note I don't think we've ever seen the lightning with one of his kicks. Since it's white I don't think it means anything about CoC, but it might be something that really sparks up the scene in the anime.
If this was end of the fight then I would have easier time accepting it if Queen flies off the island because of this kick. Like it being so strong that Queen flies through all floors/ walls and falls down crashing into Wano or even better into the sea/ into one of Marines warship next to Wano or smthn.. Dang I want more Sanji vs Queen action.

Germa Sanji doesn't need to counter, since he's essentially indestructible.
According to the wiki, Ifrit is arabic…
And here I was scratching my head at my lack of French vocabulary…
I like Sanji more than Zoro, especially because IMO Oda isn´t good at drawing sword-fights compared to hand-to-hand combat, but I agree with others who felt like the power-up was underwhelming.
Manga is a part-book (text), part-drawing (visual) medium.
Zoro oozing Conqueror (on top of Armament) was displayed as fire/lightning coating on his swords, something we haven´t seen before (visual). Also confirmed by King implying conqueror with his king question (text).
Sanji said he gained an exoskeleton and stronger muscles and added Armament to his legs made him heavier yet faster, probably implying improved kicking strength and also being able to wield a hotter flame (text). All of that except the flame isn´t drawn, he wears a black suit, visually we only got a somewhat different flame-leg than before, but that´s the thing, we´ve seen "flame-leg" many times before. EDIT: Oh yeah, and "invisibility" is basically Soru. He´s called Black Leg, cause he wears black boots and pants?
You know what I mean, if he wore shorts, we could see his Armament legs or differently colored shoes turning black. His legs are actually on fire and fire is not black, last time I checked.
Now look at Luffy, G2 had steam, G3 had giant limbs, G4 allows him to do stuff like retract his forearm instead of stretching to punch and lower leg to kick and fly. All of that looks stunning when drawn, you feel the power.
Franky centaur, Franky strong right, Franky air-cannon, Franky laser, Franky shoulder rockets, Franky forearm shield, Franky shogun…
Jimbei hardening, water attacks, throws, brick punches and kicks, everything he does is so cool.
So yeah, Sanji´s fighting-style looks a bit lame today (acrobatic kicks with weird names), but the reason that fight is still high quality is thanks to his oponent. Queen has shown a ridiculous variety of attacks compared to the average SH foe.
Queen is the best Wano character from the beginning to the end, it´s not even a contest at this point.
Sanji's specialty is Observation Haki, so I'm guessing he could sense Queen approaching Osome.

I'm pretty sure the CREAK sound is giving Sanji a hint at where Queen is… CoO is not even necessary at that moment...
But sure, let's ignore the obvious.
Sanji told Queen to fly at end of chapter - it would be funny if at start of next chapter Queen activates rocket boots like ones that Judge used in Sanji vs Judge.
If he has all of brothers tech he also should have Judges flying. Him going brachio bomber like he did against Big Mom but this time thanks to his flying would be great.
But again I dont want to get my hopes up as Oda might very well end fight on first page of next chapter..
for me, the french new vocabulary was Jumeau à bifteck

The fight itself is good, but everything else have such a weird feeling to me…
Oh and it is the first time I read Viz's translation on Sanji's attack, why did they add random English words on there?
I forgot was it ever a thing that when a character first uses an attack with Viz it's in english? Then later on it's in the original language? Or was that a Funimation thing?
Edit: It's a Funimation thing. I read these comments before I read the chapter and chimed in with something wrong.
It would have been nicer if those last rapid strikes on Queen were given bigger panels but I liked them regardless. Sanji is drawn as a basic stick figure on that last Flancet Flayer and it's cool with me if only to show how much smaller Sanji is to his enemy. Still would have preferred a bigger page but I like how that one reads to my eyes. It's the hand stands I'm like "maaaan!" over. I love seeing those hand stands! That should have been another half page on it's own!
Boeuf Burst is pretty interesting and much more so now that I'm reading it again. The official gives me a bit more clarity on what could be happening. At first it just looked like another Diable Jambe kick but now I see a few of the visual differences. We've got the white lightning which is fairly unique if it isn't actually electricity but it's the explosions that I didn't really take into account before. Has Diable Jambe exploded on people before? Burst into flames yeah but big explosions? As far as I can tell that's new for Sanji, kind of like what a Lunarian might do… Plus the explosion looks to be swirling. I can't tell if Queen himself was sent spinning, doesn't seem so but Beouf Burst looks to make multiple explosions or it's explosion itself "spins" or the smoke makes some sort of swirling affect.
I'm imagining like a cork screw explosion if that makes any sense. "GA GO GO GONG" is the sound affect. It almost looks like a cloud of smoke is also behind Queen way back there. I believe the initial attack is one single kick but multiple explosions occur as the victim is sent flying. Or it's one big explosion that swirls as the opponent is sent flying and the "Ga go go" is the popping of the white electricity. What do you all think?
Yonji's power, in comparison, kinda sucks to his siblings, doesn't it? He just has a weird extendo hand, compared to laser beams, electricity, invisibility and poison.
What do you mean ? Really asking. Do you mean Queen and King defeated Marco ? I thought birdie was seen flying with Izou in one of the latest chapters
I meant in a hypothetical fight I have Queen beating Marco's ass as far as strongest non CoC using pirates around.
@Johnny:
Yonji's power, in comparison, kinda sucks to his siblings, doesn't it? He just has a weird extendo hand, compared to laser beams, electricity, invisibility and poison.
Yeah, it's not the most exciting power, but the panel where Queen smashes Sanji through every wall, roundhouse-style, is actually the only cool looking panel in an otherwise very mediocre fight.
Volume 101 continuing a whole lot more endpages than normal and being a chapter short of estimates means we're actually now at the ninth chapter of volume 102, which definitely puts the progress of the current battles in a different light. That makes me think this is actually the end for Queen, although Oda may wait until after King falls to confirm it, but that should happen in the next chapter or two.
I enjoy seeing Momo find a third option and using Kaido's flames to move the island instead of totally making his own. I actually speculated that he could save the island by hijacking Kaido's clouds back in March, and now look where we are.
Some will be disappointed that Oda backed down from Sanji's attack on Osome, but it was kinda always the most likely outcome. While the end result is Sanji choosing to be okay with his weaknesses as a human being, just having him be confronted by them and having to give up the choice to change is enough for me, especially following the sequence where he calls to Robin for help. Just having to go through that process makes a huge difference to Sanji's characterisation in my eyes and I'm happy to see it done after souring on guy pretty hard after Ennies Lobby.
Queen copying the Vinsmoke tech is pretty neat actually. It gives Sanji the chance to confront and overcome his father's weapons that the plotting of Whole Cake Island never afforded. Queen's Sparking Valkyrie feels a little different from Ichiji's though. From the way they trailed behind him, I didn't think the lights in his eyes were part of the actual attack, it seemed more like it was coming from his gauntlets, but Queen has it all coming out the eyes. I wonder if his version will get the same cool iridescent colouring as the original in the digital colour manga… And there is a question as to whether we'll be seeing Queen's Poison Pink, perhaps as a last ditch final move, but between the mummy bullets and the ice oni virus, I think Queen's skill with chemical weapons is more than cemented, and it's not like Sanji ever needed to overcome Reiju like he did his other siblings.
I wonder if Oda will talk about the more stealthy sound effect used for Sanji disappearing in chapter 1031 now that he's established that it's all just faster than sight movement. Was he just trying extra hard to be quiet with that move? And on the topic of stealth effects, I do really like how he drew Queens oxymoronical invisible appearance. We've seen that transparency effect before, but not usually for so long and with such extreme expressions.
There's only so much you can say when the chapter's two pages shorter than usual and almost entirely action, but I did enjoy this one. Onigashima's been pretty good for Sanji's characterisation overall and the weird powers and visuals made the Queen fight a highlight. Though it's foolish to try to predict Oda with any kind of confidence, I'd bet on the next chapter being Zoro vs King and the last one of this volume, ending with narration boxes that confirm both the executives are defeated, forming a bookend with Jack and Perospero's simultaneous defeat in the opening chapter. I didn't expect these battles to end before Fukurokuju and Orochi went down, but this chapter had too much of a finishing move vibe to ignore. But the remaining conflicts shouldn't last too far into volume 103 - which at this stage I'm hoping could be the end of the Onigashima battle.
Momo starting to drag the island away is a pretty lowkey great transition moment for the chapter. Love that the kid came up with this on his own. If Oda actually lets him make progress in this, which I don't honestly see why Momo wouldn't be able to at least slowly drag it back away from the capital, then we closer to the island exploding becoming a real strong potential ending for the arc. I'm still blanking on who or what would trigger most of the fighting to end and everyone to start evacuating though.
It… probably would've worked out a little less awkward if Queen was just attacking a group of ladies indiscriminately (or to draw Sanji out) instead of trying to single 1 out and make her into a full character. It is what it is though, and I guess the comparison wish Sanji from his childhood is neat. I'm a little curious where the ladies are gonna go, considering this is probably the safest spot left in the dome. Outside is dangerous, the castle fire is probably not far from the first floor, and the live floor has a Kaiju. Maybe if Sanji's kick forces Queen far enough away, it'll move their battlefield and the girls will just stay here.
I personally would be pretty disappointed if this is the end for Queen, or even if he's only got 1 more rally before he gets taken down. Same with the idea that King should go down in 1 more from Zoro. These upgrades should be what make Zoro and Sanji equals with King and Queen fighting seriously (when they've mostly been trolling or dragging the fights out to satisfy their own agendas). Give me Zoro drawing his first blood on King and then let both of them keep fighting for another few chapters as equals for once.
I have plenty of questions and more I want to see out of Queen. Does he have judge or reiju powers? Can we see some combo attacks with the different powers? My never-ending request for Zoan awakening please. And not even getting into the chance for Queen to have more viruses or some steroid drug for himself...if not just ice oni. And I'd love to see the full extent of what it means to be a Lunarian in more than 1 chapter. I'm not asking for a long delay; just let them keep fighting as equals for 5ish chapters off-screen while we deal with Hiyori/Orochi and make some real progress with Yam's explosion plot (ideally hitting a climax point with that) and then come back to finish the fights. I don't know, maybe Luffy's fights with Cracker and Katakuri have just given me too high expectations for what these fights should look like.
rereading it in offical translation/better quality…i still enjoy sanji's fight w/ queen when he's actually fighting. Problem is, there's no "wow" to his barrage of attacks, they get lost when oda just does a bunch of them even w/ the "upgrade" of infrit. So i am like 90% sure this fight isn't over yet. It just doesn't feel "BIG" enough yet with a second in command of a yonko.
Also, I think it would have worked better if Queen had invented his own Raid Suit instead.
@Johnny:
Also, I think it would have worked better if Queen had invented his own Raid Suit instead.
This seems like the kinda thing that could be a really fun SBS question if Oda finds the time to do a sketch of Queen in a Raid Suit of his own design in response. Particularly if he's still wearing it in hybrid mode.
