the boots thing is still mystifing? was there an aside where they said "someone" messed with that system (the traitor)? b/c super geniuses couldn't remember to hold their boots in place with science magic?

RE: Chapter 1077: Should Have Noticed Sooner
@Cockycent said in Chapter 1077: Should Have Noticed Sooner:
I can't see the people going out like Ohara or all of the VPs getting on the ship. I think this arc will result in reinforcing Egghead as a spot not to take lightly like Wano.
There's been a narrative concerning unaffiliated countries, islands, etc. Sphynx, Vivi, Rev Army, VP is now a WG enemy and so are Judge and Caesar. Maybe Oda makes the Research Team and Rev Army more unified as a full circle thing since VP dismissed Dragon initially as a broke boy.
Possibly why Oda is bringing in an Elder. If the locals of Egghead could survive this, it will prove to be enough for the WG to not encroach when the crew isn't around.
I'm little confused on how Oda handles the Seraphim. It appears that they most likely oppose the WG in the end no matter who they serve or even gaining their independence. The WG can't keep taking L after L like this. I've been seeing a lot of newer VAs post ts, so maybe the draft worked out.
Oda seems to like narratives of preserving history/knowledge. So I'm guessing the giant brain is gonna be safe.

RE: Chapter 1060: Luffy's Dream
@Alfiere said in Chapter 1060: Luffy's Dream:
"Luffy, remember what you said about Ace, you know the guy that ended up dead beacuse everybody who could help him waited till the last possible minute to try and save him. It's the same thing here, the only difference being that Ace was an experienced pirate who could destroy a fleet with a single fart, while Vivi is a disney princess who rides a duck into battle and is currently traumatized for witnessing her father's murder. She'll be probably fine on her own"
The crew wasn't happy, but Zoro's flawless argumentation was indisputable, so they moved on.if vivi ends up being the princess/damsel in distress b/c of a convuluted excuse by oda...

RE: Chapter 1060: Luffy's Dream
Definitely oda plot-device to make it so they don't go after vivi. If anyone else in crew, they would go. Making zoro the bad guy is also mehhhh especially after Luffy used the same reasoning for Ace and THAT turned out well...

RE: Chapter 1,044: Warrior of Liberation
Literally 99% of the OP world at this point
gripes for 1/3 of this arc is that most of the SHs got the shaft. it's a pivotal fight with a yonko most didn't fight or showed that their growth in the 2 year time skip was lacking. Or their growth since fishman island was meh compared to the first half of grand line. Did Ussop even do anythign with his awakened haki yet?

RE: Chapter 1,044: Warrior of Liberation
I think the matter of fact here is not the "evil of drugs", but the "evil of art".
Luffy is under the excitement of music.
I get him. So good.
oda made it seem like he had a 25% personality change though. not sure how i feel until i get more characterization and him in gear 5
edit:
Oda sort of writes himself into a corner in this panel and validates other people's criticism on plothole of why they didn't capture luffy in east blue or at least try

RE: Chapter 1,044: Warrior of Liberation
Like 40 chapters ago when they were all fighting Kaidou and Big Mom at the same time, Big mom fried Luffy with lightning and went "Wha?"
"I'm made of rubber!"
Which we all knew and accepted.
And then immediately after, Kaidou blasts him and goes "What, fire doesn't work either? " And Luffy yells out "cause I've got guts!"
And we rolled with it because its Luffy and funny and awesome and it was connected to the thing we already knew and accepted and it was just a quick thing in an action scene, and we didn't think about it.
But….
(We also got red hawk a decade ago and never any explanation for it beyond what we ourselves decided.)
to be fair…shonen manga logic is very much "guts" or do it with "DON!"....we don't necessarily needed a DF to explain it away. Like how Sanji doesn't need to be lunarian to explain his fire power (but he probably got spliced with lunarian dna b/c his dad probably got dna samples from king).
I don´t have an issue with the awakened power allowing him to bounce back the beam. It´s believable given what we knew about awakening affecting others.
I have a big problem with Luffy behaving as if on shrooms.
I can´t get over the fact that this guy I´ve adored for dunno how many years came back from the dead to turn into a batshit crazy psycho who ROTFLMAO during an important fight when hundreds are being killed and burned alive a few meters below. On the other side, we have a drunk.
Crackhead vs drunk.
Two of the worst types of losers I stay away from IRL and definitely something I didn´t need to see depicted in my favorite manga.
There is nothing funny to me about Kaidos drunk states .lol right? this is why you don't do drugs kids! or do it in a safe manner not where the fate of a country depends on it! But seriously, had the same though about him on shrooms

! > So much of Skypiea has been brought back to life recently, and these two panels here are more relevant than ever too.https://birdsofherme.files.wordpress.com/2018/10/one-piece-gallon.jpg
two of my favorite panels/pages of all of the entire mangae are the galleon one you linked, and the dancing once around the fire (skypedia again). I don't know why I was always drawn to that fire dance with wolves and having soup, bit was epitomized OP for me. And i'm glad it had some significance now too.

RE: Chapter 1,043: Let's Face Death Together!!!
I've been here since 2011
and a decade of spoiler discussion has not soured my enjoyment of the story whatsoever.
Spoilers discussions tend to be more intense because we have less information. Less information is the absolute lifeblood of discussions. Because people are trying to piece together something coherent from the little we have.
Taking that away, would just be..boring.
As an example, look at how not a lot of people really discuss the full chapter.
I say, let us have our fun.
If you don't want to see the spoiler thread, maybe log out of account and browse the site as a guest. Or more shocking…ignore the spoiler thread
same. just don't gone spoilers threads. I don't think 1043 was ruined by a spoiler thread. shrug

RE: Chapter 1,043: Let's Face Death Together!!!
Oda's statements below make sense now. Looking forward to Wano's "surprising" ending confirmed by Toei staff.
Oda: Pay attention to Luffy. (2021)
Next time Nika appears, he'll show his face. (2021)
Audience won't be satisfied if Luffy beats Kaido with just a strong punch. (2016)
Skypiea party is his 3rd favorite in the series, where the same SFX was used as "drums of liberation"(2020)
skypiea was my top 3-5 arcs. just b/c of the fun o the adventure. and the fire dance when i first read it was filled with just "joy" for me. So if it's true oda snuck some hints in that exact panel, then it'll just add extra meaning to me an enjoyable chapter

RE: Chapter 1,043: Let's Face Death Together!!!
! @Greg:
! > I agree. This is probably the only way this could bother me, if Luffy isn't himself because of it.Because then that literally robs our hero of the accomplishment.
Not everyone may agree, but to this end, every gain Luffy has made, is a result of how he grew up, how he was treated, whom he was inspired by, and the person he chose to be.
If this means him getting controlled, nah. I'm not 'out', but it robs whatever this victory would've meant for Luffy.
I do not think Oda would be willing to ruin that.
My belief is that the grin is an ideal that symbolizes an awakening of sorts and understanding of one's place in the world. This is why we've seen that grin since Chapter 1 on Roger and many other characters on the event of their death. I believe that Joy Boy isn't a person (I mean, yeah it's a title) so much as it is the embodiment of an idea.
I mentioned this privately to a friend, but the whole revival thing seems to be over complicated by various fan theories.
Enel's fruit saved him by giving him a heart massage. I'm pretty sure a rubber heart pumping blood isn't any different.
What this may suggest is a sentience among DF's which could contribute to the idea of most ppl (supposedly) not being able to eat more than one.
I think most of us are on similar wavelengths about this and its valid worry/criticism. Destiny was always this amorphous blob story device that was sort of outside of their main journey/their choices. My main worry and worry of what will be the final outcome of this "revelation" is the fact it's been pushed into the major points of heighten tension & drama previously in this arc. And more and more time in One Piece than I would've expected.
I do think it can open the door for discussion of nature of destiny, but regardless of it, luffy and the crew did the thing, worked hard for each other's dreams…..don't want work to be sort of "negated" by a predestined route decided by DF/Gods/Zuneisha/Poneglyphs stones or whatever.
