Ehhh... it's more complicated than that. Quite a bit more.

@LostTimeLord
Mayumi giving him the Straw Hat genuinely got me really emotional.
I hope this series is a huge hit, and gets to finish properly so he can return the Hat to her. -
Oh fuck yeah, now that's some really good news.
Luffy is Mayumi for me. I have never watched the One Piece Dub lol. -

Seems like clips for Live Action were shown behind closed doors at Anime Expo.
-
The camp factor is something that has me worried. It‘s something that‘s an important part of the series but it might feel really cringey in live-action.
-
They were ticket viewings of clips. Attendees could see 'em if they had tix.

Doubt you would know if they will release the clips soon would you?
-
@Greg Did you or anyone double check Artur's contribution to the show? I find it weird that they turned to him in any capacity for lore and Easter eggs references when they have you in the first place.
-
You'll find out the (extremely amusing) answer to that question soon. And 'they' didn't. One person did.
-
olala, the spice
-
@Greg I take it that one person was Oda ;)
-
@Sun-D You think Oda personally asked for Artur?
-

-
@Muri Now that's funny.

So jose maria yazpik is listed as monkey d dragon.
-
@Muri I meant Oda was the person that proof read the script and fact checked everything
-
Also I belive the reason Artur helped out with the script is because he knows the main script writer Matt Owens and he asked him for some lore advice
-
Helped out has too much implication in my understanding of the word and the context.
Artur might have given him his thoughts, but when Matt Owens went to see Oda, why ask someone who isn't the author?
Oda himself seems to be quite invested in the series, he even said that the show won't air until he is satisfied with it.
So why should the writers team need the help of someone like Artur, maybe for some feedback on whatnot, but thats even a stretch, IMO. -
At least they didn't pick: " hey youtube, joyboi here" for lore or KOL.
-
If Mr Morj had been consulted the walk to Arlong Park would've ended in failure

Matt Owens does watch Joyboy Theories. Though I think he’d go to RogersBase for source material consultations since they’re friends and was even invited for a set visit.
-
@zorosempai No shit? Love his work lol

I am definitely interested how Sanji will be (and banter against Zoro)
-
Just wait a bit and a lot of the above will make sense.
It's been a very...long...and...silent...six years.
-
I was thinking about how the opening of the series will be.
Are they going the classical route, with a new version of We Are and some cool shots (similar to how they did with Cowboy Bebop) or are they going with something more modern like Stranger Thing's opening.@Greg, do you happen to have an opinion on the opening of the series already or are you waiting to see it like the rest of us?

I'd love to answer your question but please see above post.
-
I think the anime opening is iconic enough to have some gravitas and people are going to pay homage to that in some way. It allows some inspired angles to convey the story too, so it can be rather dramatic. I do think we'll have Roger as the opening act...
-
Still odd, but understanding that this isn't exactly priority at Netflix. Getting a teaser/trailer hybrid 2 months out is irregular because there was next to nothing else before it. Tossing money for production cost is 1 thing. A proper rollout is another.
Series tend to get 3-4 month media campaigns, but it appears this is just receiving a 2 month one. It was part of a bunch as well. Even if it gets another effort in August with celebrities and Youtubers being part of marketing, it's still not enough.
OP has always been in this spot of being treated weird. Especially in gaming and now this. Dragon Ball and Naruto get their moments in gaming and OP that I believe deserves a proper game just has quantity.
I get that OP might be the first of its kind in live action where those in charge are attempting to pay its proper respect creatively by not just involving the writer, but the fans. I just question Netflix efforts here.

Assuming that One Piece is a SAG•AFTRA production, the cast have been forbidden from promoting the series, likely until well after Season One has been released. The strike also means that they can't start principal photography on a potential Season Two, even if the scripts are already complete. After being delayed by a pandemic and finishing production just as Netflix starts cutting down on costs, One Piece LA has had unlucky timing yet again.
-
Can someone find me a tv series that isn't Game of Thrones or its spin-off that started its marketing campaign 2+ months before release?
-
@JustaGuy Well. Those are... certainly changes.
-
@Kaiolino Well, I can just use the same platform (Netflix) for example, so it's fair. It would be too much if I used other streamers and channels. Shows that were treated as priority which is what i'm pointing to in my post.
Not just cast reveals or "it's happening/in development announcements", or little appearances on a fan's Youtube. Actual events, ads, promo, exclusives, etc in the mainstream media to announce dates, preview the show, and treat the project like something you want to maximize eyeballs on.
Only showing some trailer/teaser hybrid 2 months out among 12 other projects is not a good sign that this is priority.

Would you show them Ghostbusters (1984)? If yes, then probably okay. At the same time, you may want to rewatch Ghostbusters (1984) to refresh yourself for what it includes.

Actually, it's exactly according to keikaku for highest-priority.

Kid 1 and 2 are 7 and 5. While I love Ghostbusters, it's not something I would show them for the next couple of years.
Are you implying that it can be scary/disturbing at times? Thanks a lot for the reply! :)
-
Example didn't have to be GB necessarily. Coulda been Goonies, Gremlins, Temple of Doom, Adventures in Babysitting etc. any number of 80's comedies that little kids watched back then but parents today (depending on the family) might not necessarily let their little kids watch now for a number of reasons.
-
@Greg Are you allowed and/or have the information to say in regards to how much the WGA and the SAG-AFTRA strikes are affecting the marketing of the series outside Japan, if at all?
-
-
New trailer, wtf! Just randomly saw it after watching a youtube video.
2 minutes after upload!! -
They did not hold back!!!
Did I spot Usopp's outfit from the original crew concept, @Greg ??!!
-
The new trailer looks great. Arlong looks really awesome in live action. Also I like the references to both Foxy and Bellamy in the trailer with their bounty posters.
-
So, it seems Krieg was axed from the Live Action, and it's the Arlong Pirates that attack the Baratie?
-
@Deicide looks like it
-
@GuetaMinute This explains why there appeared to be 2 episodes for Baratie and only one for Arlong Park: it's actually a single arc for the Live Action.
-
This trailer was amazing. I think I would actually give this a watch even if I wasn't a fan already. Seriously it actually looks really good. And I surprisingly don't care at all that they cut out Krieg and combine Baratie and Arlong arc into one arc. I hope they still find away to give Sanji his proper screentime and characterization.
Damn, I'm actually fucking hyped now.

Pretty boy Cavendish too, haha.
-
@Cinder Wow! I missed that one. LOL.
-
Serious question, what do you think about this blurry background fella
In the scene where Sanji is fighting Kuroobi in what looks to be the Baratie :O
-
That was a lot wow. I'll wait and see on the Krieg decision if it was changed anyway.
-
That's going to be a tough switch and I'm interested in seeing how they do it, if they do it. It's not just getting rid of Krieg, but Krieg works because of how it introduces Mihawk. I'm hopeful that they'll still have his introduction be a great intro for the idea of the warlords.
edit: My wife just caught Dragon within the first 10 seconds. There's a guy with a very distinctive green cloak in the crowd!
