Yeah, I'm also much more interested in when does the trailer drops, and then the episodes, so I can see and judge for myself.
Even if there are early reviews or even actual leaks, I much prefer to just wait and discuss it later when we've all seen it.

Eight episodes, huh? Maybe they are cutting Logue Town? They still haven't revealed Smoker and Tashigi's actors.
-
I've come to believe that this show will be a glorious mess, a beautiful catastrophe that'll crash and burn and stops at one season.
I hope it isn't and I'm ready to be proven wrong of course.

The creators of Warrior Nun (I think it was Warrior Nun) talked about how Netflix decided to cut down all their original content series to 8 episodes per season with longer running times per episode. This is a cost-cutting measure (you have to pay less writers) and is in fact one of the many reasons the WGA is striking right now, with Netflix being the most unwilling of all the companies to strike a favourable deal.
-
@All-Fiction Likely converted a series of Ten 1 Hour long episodes into Eight 1.5 Hour long episodes. Not uncommon for Netflix as others said. Look at Stranger Thing Season 4, every episode is 1.5 hours long, with the finale episode being 2.5 hours long. And other Netflix Original series do this too (Ozark for example off the top my head)
-
Keeping my expectations firmly neutral until there's some kind of trailer or substantial preview of what we're in for. It's never a good idea to get your hopes too high for this kind of thing, but by the same measure I think if you set your expectations in too low you can end up going in looking only for nits to pick and miss the things it gets right.
Eight episodes should still be enough to work through East Blue. In terms of manga to anime pacing, I reflect on the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs, which given the opportunity to fully adapt a manga in a format not limited by normal TV episode and season lengths adapted a ten-volume series into a little over eight hours of viewing time in episodes ranging from 40 to 70 minutes. The 11 volumes of the East Blue saga are a comparable pagecount, so there's precedent for fitting that much content in at that kind of pace.
-
The anime (with some filler) got through Arlong Park by episode 45. Take out the intros and credits and those are 18-20 minute episodes. Roughly 15 hours.
Cut back and streamline things (particularly the lengthy fights and the long dramatic stares downs... and obvious cuts like Gaimon's island... and doing that same material in about 8 hours seems pretty reasonable.
-
@All-Fiction Rumors and leaks are just rumors and leaks. Even when they're accurate they can be based on info that's wildly outdated on the production side. Like...insanely outdated.
-
@FatDogForMidTerms Saved for later fun.
-
@Kaiolino absolutely not why this happened here. Waaaaaaaay off the mark. Not that what you described isn't a thing, you just have no idea how much that is not what happened here at all.
-
I just hope Oda health isn’t too bad looking at the comment.
-
@Greg Oh, I didn't even know there were rumors of no Logue Town going around. I was just assuming since there still hasn't been any cast reveal for Tashigi and Smoker. Thank you, though!

Just, he's fine. It's not about a health condition. It's tongue-in-cheek.
All, there are/were.
Fat, it def does!

I think one of the things that will tell right on where the production is going is the "filter" they are using for the show. Like, will it make colors pop? Is it going for a more earth-y tone? or blue-y, since it takes places at the sea...? Will it have the same yellow tone that american shows use for latin and middle east countries...? It'll tell a lot about the artistic vision, which is 50% the reason why I'll watch it. The other is to see what they'll tweak to better streamline the show - Zoro fighting the BW recruiter? Sengoku on Roger's execution? Buggy, Shanks, Doffy, Moria, Mihawk in Logue Town?
-
I can't wait for the inevitable legion of people that will defend Oda's decision to put his name on this when this fails and try to paint it as a Dragon Ball Super situation.
But hey, cracks in the armor makes the person more relatable to the masses so eh, that'll be fine anyway and people will suck that up to. -
@zeltrax225 "when"?
-
@All-Fiction if you are going to jump on me because I believe that it will fail it is really not worth it simply because there are more reasons why it won't work than why it would. Doomsdaying this is bad but it is justified for people to be expected to be disappointed by this. This isn't a subjective take at all either because the studio and netflix hasn't shown a good track record. Oda is a great manga author but he is not a director, producer or a showrunner. He can have a vision of how he wants things to be but even experienced showrunners and producers have a difficult time translating their vision to screen and if you add to his own workload, then you'll draw your own logical conclusion.
I've said it pages back but I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong and this WILL be consider a mark in TV history if it blows up in quality. But realistically, we are just not there yet but hey, this could be the thing that push the industry as a whole. Then again, there's always the we can lower our standards as a whole so that it'll be acceptable approach the fanbase can take. Or to wave it off and give the studios a pat on the back because they said it like three times they work very hard on it and love it a lot in their marketing material of the week despite making millions off an IP the executives obviously gives little shit about. So it'll probably be fine at worst.

They started this process 8 years ago and we're only now on the verge of getting season 1. Oda is 48 now.
If they didn't start when they did, almost a decade ago, he'd be retirement age before anything got off the ground and might not have the energy to shepherd it as strongly as he might want.
Less "he only has six months to live" and more "he probably doesn't have sixty years"
-
I can't wait to finally see a trailer for this after all these years.
I've been wanting to introduce my girlfriend to One Piece for a while, but she understandably doesn't want to watch 1000+ episodes of anime. Netflix series sounds like a perfect way to share some One Piece mania with her.All I ask is that this is a fun 8 hours.
It's obviously going to look at least decent and to be faithful enough to the manga. Wouldn't really care if they cut stuff like Pearl, and I also wouldn't mind some small deviations really. I've already read the original story! -

I really liked that video.
I like how even though we havent seen any footage the actors do seem to fit the characters. I mean, they re probably a bit in character when filming these promos, Luffy being high energy, Zoro being more sollemn, etc.
Hey Greg, did you ever got the chance to meet any of the cast at your job?
I imagine at least a couple of them travelled to Japan, either for some business thing or just to enjoy the influence of the series. -
I can't wait for the inevitable legion of people that will defend Oda's decision to put his name on this when this fails and try to paint it as a Dragon Ball Super situation.
The time for such a drastic measure has already come and safely gone.

Would you agree that if they went for Oda's colorspread Copic look it's a bingo?
Hey Greg, did you ever got the chance to meet any of the cast at your job?
Please wait a little while longer.

I'm less on being that judgmental on the visuals and more censorious over what is being removed, sequenced differently, and newly introduced. These things are just really sacred and being an adaptation, I need good in story reasoning for these decisions. Very open, but you got to prove to me that you really read this story or at least allowed Oda to do more than okay what you already made up your mind on.
This is their story to adapt as much as they want to promote that Oda has to be satisfied. There is a way to change things and still display that you are speaking to the essence of this tale.
I know the limits of this era's VFX work. Especially for series. The physical toll to do what Sanji or Zoro does is also part of the visual aspect that I don't really put too much weight on due to the restrictions of that medium.
-
this is going to be so bad lol

Haha, well, I guess you kindly (and legally) answered my question. Thanks, mate.
I will wait for new developments.

@Greg certainly a bingo in my book!

I can say from what I've seen of most of them since they've been cast is that they aren't faking, especially Inaki.
-
Yeah, if you follow Inaki's Instagram you get the feeling he's just like that every day.
-
He is Luffy.
-
Oh, sorry if it looked like I was saying the actors are faking it.
I was trying to say that, despite these promos being work, so of course they gonna look/feel like their characters a bit, most of it is very genuine.
If the promo was presented by Arlongs actor, for example it would also be normal for him to be a bit scary, or to say Luffy in a more menacing way.But I do follow the main cast instragrams since they were announced, they really seem to enjoy working and hanging out with each other.
I recall a few months ago seeing Jacob (Usopp) visiting Inaki (Luffy) for a vacation, and their natural vibe really was Luffy and Usopp shennenigans.Oh, and Inaki was recently travelling by boat and learning how to sail... After already shooting the first season of OP.
And learning how to sail only after becoming a pirate is exactly what Luffy did, so we cool, imo. -
Here's Tekking's weigh in on the upcoming show and Oda's letter:
-
Tekking attributes the translation of Oda’s message to Artur lol (tbf Artur posted that message without proper credit on his twitter, which is a very Artur thing to do).
-
Seeing some cast announcements on r/, but don't see any confirmation. Cabaji, Ririka, and Buchi.
-
Leaked Marine uniforms are looking great imo. Super faithful without being cheesy.

These confirmations are coming from actors resumes and imdb credits so they are legit.
As Kaiolino said, that Twitter account is worth a follow. We've been sitting on the Kuina casting rumors for months but they only just posted now that there's a confirmed source to corroborate it. They aren't just spreading rumors.
-
Sorry. I should have, but it's the two pictures Kaiolino posted above here.
-
-
lol I just can't imagine this Merry crying after Luffy Vs Usopp in W7
-
That is unintentionally very unsettling.
-
Yeah, the creep factors are a bit high with this one... I saw a picture of it months ago but seeing as this does appear to be the final version, I can't really say I like it all too much.
