Roger had an illness, it was more like Roger did not start the WAR (or could not for some reason, that's why he turned himself in to start the great era of pirates), he was waiting for the ONE (as WB said).
I think the Ancient Weapons are the argument the WG used to forbid research of the VC (we still dont know why the weapons existed in the first place). What they fear is the "True History" on the Ryo becomes known to the world.

Rayleigh's speech suggest otherwise. If that was the case, he'd have simply it was because of the illness but what he said implies they didn't know what they should do or weren't capable of doing for some other reason.

About the Ancient weapons, I hope there is something more than that. If there isn't, then the Rio Poneglyph probably has no real dangerous information, something someone could use to gain power since apparently all the texts about the weapons are on regular poneglyphs

Yeah, maybe he could not start the war for some reason, or he was not sure about the "true history" and belived that there were something more than that, that's why he turned himself in to create the Great Pirate era, hoping that one day the next one to find the "true history" may come to a different conclusion than he and his crew had.

My question is : Why were the AW built in the first place ? There must be some purposes that requied their destructive power.

He's saying Blackbeard represents chaos. Then he says that you say Blackbeard represents freedom and is going to the final villain which would mean that the final villain represents the same thing as Luffy. And that that is stupid.

I'll just throw my simple minded thinking on it. Blackbeard and Luffy are both two sides of the same freedom coin. Blackbeard seems to be freedom by getting results. Luffy's freedom is the journey. A clash between the two would make a lot of sense as the pinnacle of the story. But the WG would also make a valid final villain. The moral ambiguity of what the two sides are fighting for would be pretty dope.

I wouldn't be surprised if the final villain was more of a multiple different sides in a fight, either.

If Blackbeard was part Tenryubito, it would change things. It would give some credence to his non-D like behavior, and it could give him a dream like: "I'm a D and a Tenryubito so that means I should rule the world"

Been reading some of the previous posts and I found something along the lines of each main faction in the series(The Strawhats, the Blackbeards, and the WG) will be having their own respective AW. Poseidon would be with the Strawhats for obvious reasons. Then the other two, Pluton and Uranus respectively, would go to the remaining two groups.

I'm guessing Pluton falls into the WG's hands. It's in Alabasta, one of the kingdoms under their influence, so they have access to it. I'm sure the old guys are aware that Pluton's there just as Crocodile was. They have someone capable of creating that ship in Vegapunk. Problem is its exact location and how to access it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the Gorousei, or at least one of 'em, should be able to read the Poneglyphs. And in their struggle to maintain the status quo they are forced to resort to desperate measures and awaken Pluton. On a personal note, I get giddy over the thought of Pluton backed up by marine warships, as if ready for a Buster Call. Brings back childhood memories of playing toy soldiers and trucks and ships with my cousins hahahahaha.

Uranus is related to the Sky, so whatever this weapon turns out to be it will be sky related and I don't see a Devil Fruit being Uranus, some people created a theory about Dragon being Uranus just because of the power we have seen him use so far but that got buried in a flash

My reasoning for Uranus falling into Blackbeard's hands is a weak one; dumb even or just me looking too much into one detail.
Uranus being based on the titan of the same name who was the sky himself probably hints at that particular weapon up in the sky. With Blackbeard being the one who boldly declared that Sky Island does exist and later tells Luffy the proverbial "told you so" in Impel Down, I think it'd be fitting if he gets the Ancient Weapon from that place. His words have proven to be ominous, like providing a show that'll shake the world to its core and he did as he went and stole WB's power.

Ahhh, I never considered that theme before. The Thousand Sunny matched up against an invincible warship adds to the underdog dynamic of the Strawhats to the Blackbeards.

It's both. The point of the blueprint was to be able to make a counter, but the danger of it falling into the WG's (or anyone's) hands was also a concern. Because that really is the same as someone finding Pluton, only with a construction delay.

I think the Gorusei would see it that way yeah. As an emergency reserve. I think they're uber serious about not waking any weapons up, and had zero intention of entertaining Spandam's delusions of grandeur.

I still think the Gorosei are going to be the final-final villains of One Piece. I mean…and call me silly...I just can't see a guy with magma powers being the final villain. I mean...magma doesn't seem 'flashy' enough, weird enough, grand enough, or creepy enough to be the powers of the final villain of a series. But maybe Oda doesn't really care.

My vote goes to the Gorosei or Blackbeard. Yeah.

Dragon being an AW is a bit redundant with Poseidon already a living entity, so I wouldn't have supported that idea too.

I wonder if the weapon's at the moon? There were some poneglyphs at the moon, based on Enel's cover story.

Oh yeah, I just wanted to say that we saw his weak-side already. Sure BB showed us a weak side too by getting beaten up by WB, poisoned by Magellan, and crying out of pain from Ace's fire. But BB is different since he got the power from WB.

It is very easy to give credibility and showcase the strengths of the main protagonists. Since they are the main protagonists. Even if they get beaten up in one scene (like Sanji with Doflamingo in recent memory), there will always be a chance to make them shine again.

However, its very difficult to show the weakside of a Villain and then make him look strong and capable again. I think I've mentioned this somewhere a while ago, but to me, Lucci and Moria are just not threatening figures anymore.
I don't expect great threats should they re-appear in the series. They showcased their strengths and powers already. Period. And they were defeated. Period.

Akainu was pretty much defeated by WB. To me, just seeing him again as the big Villain, let alone a Final one, would be hugely disappointing.
He already showed us what he can do with Magma, and just seeing that again will be a bore. So yeah… showed off his skills, got beaten. The end for Akainu.

A very rare cases with previous Villains being something to look forward to in the future are: Crocodile and Buggy.
I can't wait to see them again because they have grown since the war.
(I think Oda spent a lot of effort with Crocodile during the war to make him appear evenly matched with other big figures present at that stage)

Maybe Enel, but not sure what Oda has in for him.

Agreed.

He's not like Blackbeard, who from the moment he was introduced has risen: From unknown, in the eyes of marines, WB pirate he aspired to be a Warlord, and successfully became one then later dropped his Warlord status and attained the Yonko title. He's grown in stature and in power as well along with Luffy. Although he's growth is on a much larger scale compared to Luffy's, he's one of the few characters who's been given that rise and the only villain to have been given such progress. Unless we count Buggy in from East Blue scrub to where he is now.

Blackbeard is definitely the only candidate for that final villain spot for the title of Pirate King.

Akainu's a Rob Lucci.

And we already saw him getting beaten up by Whitebeard.

Well, Blackbeard was on the verge of getting his ass handed to him as well by a near-death Whitebeard so getting beat up by the strongest guy shouldn't really be a smudge on Akainu's resume.

Are you saying that you don't want Akainu to return as a villain? Because that's definitely going to happen so you should brace yourself for disappointment lol.

I understand you might not like him and stuff but your reason for not wanting him to return is kinda weak. Like others are saying, getting beat by the one known as the STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD is not really a "weak side". And like you siad yourself, there is nothing inherently wrong with a villain suffering a defeat and coming back later as long as he brings something new to the table the next time he returns. An antagonist doesn't have to be an implacable wall that the protagonists surpass and never revisit again. They might change and come up with new plans like some of the examples you said.

Well, I read you saying " If you don't like Akainu" and "I understand that you might not like him", so I assumed that you assumed that I hate Akainu. Which I don't really…just a character that served the story progression.

I'm a person who think the 2 years training gained the SH to actually face off against an Admiral.
(If the 9 of them can't fight against an Admiral, what was the point of training 2 years if they were gonna meet Kizaru and get owned again...)
And Akainu, I just don't see him getting more powerful than what he was in PW. Yep, he was sure powerful there but no growth I reckon. I don't think being a Fleet-Admiral makes a difference as to when he was an Admiral.
So...I see him as a formidable enemy, but not a nail-bitingly strong one. Since he showed us all he got.

I wouldn't be surprised if Akainu doesn't personally fight SH in the future.
I personally think he has something to do with Dragon and expect him to be stripped of his authority by a coup or the revolutionaries.

I think you're thinking a little too much "power levels" and too little "narrative progression". There is simply no way that the guy that killed the main character's brother, was directly involved in the massacre of one of the main character's home island, is the current boss of the marines who have been antagonists to the main characters since the beginning for obvious reasons and is the absolute representative of the "dark side" of the marines who only care about following and orders and not about true justice is not going to have a big clash with the main characters at one point or another. I personally think that he might even face them in the very final arc( just not as the final villain, that's Blackbeard).

But to talk power levels, I don't see any reason to think Akainu won't get any stronger than he was at the war so I do think he will get stronger lol but I agree about the Strawhats being ready to face someone like Kizaru by now.

No, really, I may have appeared to be conscious of Power Levels because I mentioned Admiral-level in my previous post, but believe me when I say Power Levels don't matter to me.
I do agree that "narrative progression" is the bigger card. And this is truly where I can't see Akainu in combat against SH…
The flow of the story would be much more interesting with Akainu being unable to do what he wants against his enemies. How would SH meet and fight him?
Will he, a Fleet-Admiral, leave his position in marine HQ and personally pursue SH?
Will SH go into the Marine HQ to beat him up? (There are possibilities with this, but not very evident at this point)

One Piece is about chasing people's dreams...not take revenge on something from the past.
Sure Akainu will try to stop Luffy from getting his dream at one point or the other, but I just see him more as a person to be taken down by someone other than SH.

as obvious as it is that it's implied to be blackbeard, would bb take out akainu/marines, and CD's on his way to raftel? he will no doubt be stopped by both, and possibly another unknown defense. i can see shiryuu slaying mihawk, but that's so anticlimactic. unless zoro and mihawk fight, and mihawk finally submits defeat, shiryuu shows up to stab him in the back? then zoro has to fight shiryuu (quite a scary and ruthless swordsman, haven't seen many) at full strength, and zoro fully injured.

I agree with that, and that's exactly why I think he's going to face them only in the final, chaotic war with everyone involved. Though since you mentioned the possibility that he might be taken down by someone else, there is only one person I can think of that would be fit, the one I consider to be the representative of the "good side" of the marines which would be…Coby, I guess. But man, it's kind of hard to imagine Coby of all people facing against Akainu lol. He just needs a 3rd incredible and almost bizarre growth in power for that.

I don't think it makes sense Dragon beating Akainu because Dragon's beef is with the WG itself and Akainu would actually be kind of a "small fry" actually for him.

When people talk about the final villain, do they mean the last true single villain to be defeated by luffy or the last great obstacle to overcome? From what WB said, the one carrying Roger/Ace's spirits will end up causing a war with the world (WG?), which to me points to the WG (and it's strongest member) being the very last obstacle for the crew to overcome. Since the war was foreshadowed to happen once a new pirate king appears, so it sounds like it would have to happen after Luffy and BB face off for the title of PK. Unless BB starts the war prematurely after gaining access to an ancient weapon and attempts to conquer/challenge the entire world, which would allow Luffy to fight BB as the final villain while dealing with the WG, and gain the title of PK.

I personally believe BB is the greater villain compared to Akainu, both have been known to use dirty tricks, but I believe BB will take the series to a much darker place more towards the end. Whether the darkest character (BB) would be saved for the very last fight, or the darkest event (the war) is saved for the last fight, I can't be too sure.

If we compare the theory to bleach, arguably the darkest character (Aizen) was defeated half way, while the darkest event is happening at the end. So it's not completely unheard of for the most evil character to be taken down unexpectedly in exchange for an overall more dramatic event.

Akainu took 2 of WB's quake powered punches at point blank range, and was still standing, the same quake powered punch that ended up splitting marine ford in half. He also took a big chunk of WB's face, punched a huge hole in his chest and fought Ivan, Crocodile, Jinbe, Vista and Marco. At the end of the war, WB was dead and Akainu's alive. Akainu's the kind of Villain that would never beg for mercy, cry when in pain or run when outmatched. You call that defeated and disappointing?

LOL, either Akainu is stronger or not it's irrelevant IMO. He's a still a very powerful Marine, at this point in the story, he's still someone the SHs should run away from.

One of the reason(s) the Akainu final villian doesn't fly IMO is based on all stories, the final villian is always unique and most powerful person or entity. Teach fits that bill perfectly, if Luffy manage to defeat Teach and stay alive before this so called "Akainu final boss" then he will make a light work of Akainu. That is a silly way to end OP.

actually i'm going to reply to myself, i think all blackbeard will do (while taking out pirates and collecting DF's), is appease the one he's trying to overpower. the thing with bonney, ace. it didn't matter that he killed thatch because he can't gain anything from WB anymore (at that point). he gets the credit of a yonkou's bounty by finishing WB and stealing his fruit, another point in the plan, and another sprinboard to appease himself more power. using his warlord status for a crew. dofla must not be on his list at this point, because burgess is only after the fruit, unless bb is confident he could remove dofla as well, which would make him look good to the celestial dragons, which would grant him greater freedom in the ocean. meaning his next target would be dragon. dragon or DD. dragon/shanks/both being more likely given the current arc.

his theme seems to be two negatives (not making a positive effect). his entire crew is not based on destiny( and are all a corrupt something, a corrupt D., a corrupt dr., a corrupt warden, a corrupt police officer), but subverting a corrupt world. this is not the middle way, because you only strengthen the karma loop. what luffy/SH's are doing (the peace mains) is/will be (except when they stole that gold from the skypieans. although, weren't they going to give it to them anyway?) the middle way of justice, rogues ousting all injustice, no matter the institutions "authority" for freedom.

it's only a possibility, i don't believe anything in my post, i'm just spitballing possibilities. and it's just a question. it's obvious nobody will just let him go there, he'll face opposition from everywhere, just like anyone else, unless he's somehow in good with someone by then.

i'm not saying that the wg needs to be defeated before anyone get to raftel, it's not like a key or a video game. and while we don't know why raftel is such a hot topic to the marines or the wg, we do know it is, and we can assume they or the marines will try to stop those tryin to get there.

i only mentioned the shiryuu thing because that's a really popular theory, that shiryuu will kill mihawk, and was saying that it's really anticlimactic, and being devil's advocate for a second. again, i don't believe in this. but there are two scenarios, either zoro is already greatest swordsman by the time he fights shiryuu, which takes some of the drama out of the clash, or he fights mihawk after the final battle, which also is a little anticlimactic. i think that's why people bring the shiryuu theory up, not really sure to be honest, though. none of this situations have to happen, like i said, i'm just posting food for thought since these kinds of threads can get dull with everyone's expectations.

no, i just believe that they won't want anyone trying to enter. nobody has to go to mariejoa and try to take everyone out, you can still just sail to raftel. i don't see it being so cut and dry, but i don't believe the SH-1, WG-0 scenario. it just goes without saying, they won't just let it happen. so it also goes without saying, they won't just let blackbeard do whatever the hell he wants.

However, it's a possibility. Coinciding Mihawk's fall with the RH pirates, with Shanks and Yasopp there, essentially makes the Blackbeards the most detestable antagonists there is; Denying the SH's opportunities to make those mentors proud or fulfill promises with said figures. In one swoop, the mentor-figures (For Usopp's sake, a parent) would be taken out.

Personally, I'm hoping for a Zoro-Mihawk finale at the final war. I'm still awed by their Baratie encounter.

As if your registration date means anything.I only registered to this site in 2012 but I've been reading OP weekly for almost 250 chapters now and during my time on this forum I've seen some of the older members make some real dipshit retarded posts tbh I dont think I've seen more retarded predictions about anything in my entire life than I have about OP in this forum alot of them made by older members. As for the final battle the most I'm willing to compromise in this discussion that it will be a three way battle with black beard somehow being involved as well otherwise there is no way in hell the status quo will remain unchanged by the end of the story and for that to happen the WG needs to fall. Unless of course you think there will be world changing war with the WG who will use all the manpower,resources weaponry available to them followed by another one with blackbeard in the next arc because he is the true final villian.:getlost:

and it depends on what older members your talking about, the ones that have good reps usually don't post bad shit and the only people that really believe they do are the butt hurt members who can't seem to beat them in debates

I don't believe there will be a final villain. Blackbeard has the same idea as Luffy executed in a seemingly negative way. Once we see Blackbeard's and Akainu's backstories we will see that the world is just different perspectives trying to achieve what they feel is justice being served. If villain is meant to be the biggest opposition to the main character's way of actions, then it will be Blackbeard … Who I personally feel will be defeated by his own crew not being nakama and the winning ideal is to be true to your friends.

I'd be pretty surprised if we didn't get some background on Sakazuki and just where his value of absolute justice comes from.

Yeh I'm not expecting any love lost for Akainu.

Justice was a bad word. It's just that while Blackbeard and Luffy have the same greater ideal (dreams) they go about it in such obviously conflicting ways. It's heavily hinted Blackbeard has a tragic past like in the SBS where he was crying as a child but he took a path where he uses people instead of becoming their friends. Which somehow, I don't have any clue yet as to how, it will come off as some sort of rational way of thinking that led to his actions.

His crew is so pieced together by convenience (Impel Down?) instead of working together for mutually beneficial aims that I struggle to picture the crew introduced pre-Skypia coming together by any other way. From what has been shown, none were in Whitebeard's crew and surely something will have been mentioned if they were. He was a relatively old dude when he put his crew together.
