I'm so hyped for Detective Pikachu.
I didn't even play the original game and thought this movie would be aimed at littlest of little ones but damn the trailer sold me.

So Koharuko turns out to be Koiwai's sister.
Nice addition to the list of Koiwai family.
Based on the translation I've read, it appears as if she doesn't really refer Yotsuba as Koiwai's daughter when talking to him.
Looking forward to more interactions with her in the next chapter.

    • RE: Death Note

I'm not gonna pretend the Japanese films were masterpieces but they are indeed masterpieces compared to Netflix's Death Note.
Bad acting, bad script, cringey direction, awful music choices, and what a non-ending!

Why did Shane Black quit again?
I really think Adam Wingard is a terrible director.

It's almost been a month so I forgot.
Did they mention who they were going to meet in Tok yo?
This Koharuko guy sounds like an interesting character.

    • RE: Death Note

Just watched Death Note: Light up the New World.
It's the Japanese Death Note film from 2016 (which I talked about its box office performance in page 43).

Basically, its a film made for the fans of Death Note (specifically the live action movie versions).
      New viewers aren't welcome.
Not only does the film require you to have seen the previous two (technically there's three including the L solo film but it's horribly made and irrelevant), which I have, AND the Death Note TV series, which I haven't.
Oh well, it starts off excitingly and has a mouth-watering premise.
Three words for you: Six Death Notes.
      Yep, there's six Death Notes!
Too bad the film quickly descends into convoluted police procedural due to its big twist deliberately restraining its plot.
I guess it's not terrible with some good moments here and there (the Shinigamis steal their scenes) but with bunch of obnoxious, uninteresting characters taking center stage, I was constantly asking myself why this film was necessary to the franchise other than obvious financial reasons.

A question for others who have seen this movie.
The new "L" (Ryuzaki) claims to have inherited the original L's DNA.
Does this… make any sense to you guys?
Like, huh? What? Did I hear that right?
What does he mean by that??

5 out of 10 movie. (+1 for Toda Erika, still gorgeous)

As usual, the "characters" look nothing more than the actors doing cosplay.

Koiwai is such a good father. He appears emotionally detached but actually knows his daughter so well that he effortlessly cheers her up in minutes.

    • RE: BBC Sherlock

Finally managed to catch up with the fourth season. (really, too busy these days. I miss being online at Arlongpark all day)
The first episode is one of the worst episode in the entirety of this show.
The over-acting was cringey (mostly from Mary), the plot was incoherent and while I didn't like the character of Mary to begin with, her character goes through rather idiotic and pointless scenes.

The second episode The Lying Detective, however, is one of the very best of Sherlock episodes.
Toby Jones is delightfully hideous and his over-acting works very well with his character.
Dizzyingly fast-paced, genuinely creepy villain, I enjoyed it very much.

The final episode of this season was pretty good.
I thought it was so ridiculous, so far-fetched and made Mycroft look like an idiot but hey it was fun.

      RIP John Hurt.
      You were a true legend.

Another legendary actor passed away and that's Emmanuelle Riva.
From "Hiroshima Mon Amour" (One of my favorite films) to glorious "Amour", she was remarkable in every aspect.

Have been so busy these days and now I finally got to see Yotsuba's new chapter.
Amazing stuff, can't wait for the Tokyo episode!
