It must be kinda insane to watch your cartoon world translated to live action mwahaha
One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced

I'm so invested in this. I'll be crushed if this is trash
-
Oda´s take on it being "awesome" would be before the cgi, which makes or breaks the deal...also him saying anything bad would just be hilarious and already doom the project.
Iam still in high hopes, but it generating a hype like GoT i don´t see happening. -
You can trust him on that brief but honest evaluation.
-
@Greg Have you seen any test footage so far Greg?
-
No comment to that end.
As for Oda's comment, I'll be the first to point out if a comment reeks of 'marketing obligation', but you can rest assured, that comment from the JF message is legit.

With Netflix going cancel crazy as of late, I'm worried this will just be a one season affair. Granted I want it to pass muster and at least be decent since some gags obviously won't translate well in real life. Plus Netflix will drop a show pretty quickly for any negative reason (Money especially). I know a lot of folks weren't big on Cowboy Bebop, which, hot take, I honestly thought was okay and just flub a few things (Vicious character and the whole Red Dragons side plot mostly), but otherwise enjoyed some of the alternate interpretations. I can tell Tomorrow Studios were trying there and trying to keep the familiarity while not being a carbon copy of the original. We all know going into this it's not going to be one for one of the manga. Oda said as much himself since the main story isn't finished and there's no way you can cram that much lore with the episode count given without making changes for the format. This is essentially a retelling.
I am glad that the production crew is working closely with Oda here and making sure it meets his approval before going on. But again, what I like and what the masses like will be two different things. At best I just don't want it to end on a cliffhanger like CB, leave it open-ended at least. Enough for the season to end on that at least seem like a good stopping point that can serve as the ending, but at the same time leaving some bread crumbs to pick up should Netflix give them another season. Though of course it depends on how this'll play out in motion. Fingers crossed.
-
Yeah that's honestly the main reason why i won't get exited for a multiple season adaption. I trust that the showrunners get One Piece and i'm sure they'll do at least a decent job at adapting it. I know i'm going to have fun with it no matter how it turns out (except if they somehow make it really boring). But i don't trust that Netflix will renew it until i hear the official word. I'm definitely rooting for it though.

I still don't get what they are going to do about the fact that we already know what would happen in the first 8 seasons or so..
Are they going to change the story a little bit? Maybe more than a little bit? -
Matt Owens today said there would be news very soon.
-
@Kaiolino Oh, nice! Where did he say it? I saw nothing on his Instagram.
-
I reckon it was during the YouTuber Reverie?
-
Yeah, it was during the reverie.
-
Somebody clipped the part where they discuss the netflix series.

Are they going to change the story a little bit? Maybe more than a little bit?Why would they change the story just to "surprise"?
Everyone knew what would happen in the Harry Potter movies and they still made all the money back then. -
I'm wondering if we'll get news really soon about the live-action. Like today or early next week soon.
Matt Owens asked what day it was before teasing that news was coming "very soon", which suggests a matter of DAYS.
Over the past few days, Netflix has announced their 2023 movie slate and have released some news on some of their biggest properties like Cobra Kai's final season. I wouldn't be surprised if a One Piece update is somewhere in the mix.
-
I feel like dry faced gear 5 luffy waiting on something like a picture. Anything.
-
@crlsdc They are just trying to get past the first season! They need Netflix to renew.
Personally I wonder if after the first season, doing standalone movies, perhaps adapting the films would work better than trying to go through the whole story in 8 to 10 seasons, which production wise take over 10 years to do.
-
-
I didn’t expect them to go 1:1 for the costumes. Hopefully we’ll see their front profiles soon.
-
( ^∀^)

Trailer when
-
Greg! Based on your twitter you seem to have some confidence in this!
-
@andre
. -
Damn, Sanji looks buff! Can't wait for a first trailer!
-
Seeing it again in context - Merry looks hideous. Oh well.
Going for "faithful" outfits is always a slippery slope. I feel like only Marvel somehow pulls it off - by being very loosey-goosey with it. Hopefully they found a solution.
-
I wanted one piece live action for long while, can't wait to see it.
-
Anime-onlys being significantly more skeptical than manga readers is a very interesting social development.
-
Based on what Matt Owens said, Zoro vs Mihawk might be the highlight of the season.
-
After Mario I think I'm starting to hate the anticipation of seeing only the BACKS LOL
-
@Kaiolino Huh, that IS interesting.
-
Luffy having Flapjacks' shoes caught me off guard, lol
Sanji and Zoro are BUFFY as f*ck. I thought they were going the classic twink -> twunk route with them, so it'll be interesting to see what else they'll throw to show development after the time skip (if we ever get there).
Going Merry is kinda funny - it works as a silly ship if that's the angle. Trying to convey THAT goat crying over Usopp x Luffy's fight is gonna be soooo hard. lol. I'm excited for more news, but I honestly ain't expecting much from it.
-
The cast looks great in the costumes. That key visual give me vibes of the first ending song and the eye catches for the first 206 episodes of the anime. I can't wait to see what Buggy and Mihawk will look in the live action series.
-
Man, the hair and outfits look corny in this shot. Not to mention how terrible Merry’s face looks. I’m worried that this too immediately looks like an anime adaptation. Still waiting to give it a shot, but this opening poster doesn’t inspire much hope for me.
-
I hate Luffy. Everyone else looks like they could be passable, but hard to really say with a stylized superfiltered visual image with just a back shot.

...Luffy looks just like Luffy tho'??
-
The ship had a simple but good design early on, who decided to change it and make it look like it eats pirates for a living.
-
@redon could have been much much worse
This adaptation stands on how they'll manage to display the Gomu-Gomu power in a "believable" way.
If the nail, it's done -
Well they got the most important detail right, the seagull wears a cap.

Bad news.
https://www.cbr.com/one-piece-live-action-flops-test-audience/
Leaker has been debunked as a fraud.
-
I wouldn't put much stock in that. I saw the same thing in a different article and it said the source was "annonymous leaker" and they had no proof or screenshots or anything so... it just sounds kind of made up to me. Like the picture they're using is a fan photosop post-timeskip so it's just... clickbaity?
EDIT: Oh apparently theyve been debunked entirely. LOL.
-
Here’s hoping it’s all fake, yeah. But I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it ends up being true. The outfits and wigs look pretty hammy from what I’ve seen so far. I’m really tired of these adaptations trying to look like anime. Bebop’s colors were oversaturated, and the outfits were bleeding anime style. It all ends up looking so hokey. I don’t like cheesy stuff, and leaning into the anime feel creates quick cheese.
-
@Zephray it's false. That's not promotion, hype, etc. It's just plain false. And if anyone doubts that, it's their prerogative to do so, but it will be proven on release that the info they tried to disperse is false. Flew too close to the sun by describing details.

The details added to the truthiness of it all by feeding people’s preconceived notions and expectations (“unfaithful to the source material”, “humor doesn’t work”, “wigs look bad”, “Sanji looks bulky”)
-
I think if the entire crew isn't assembled by the end of the first episode that will debunk it pretty cleanly. Also if the effects are any good at all.
And considering we KNOW they're doing a Baratie location it'd be insanely weird to intro Sanji and then go there a few episodes later.
Of course everyone will have forgotten entirely about this by then so no one will then go "Aha, anonymous leaker with no proof was just making stuff up back in April!"
-
Even if it's true, test or reviews never been something i'd use to judge anyway. I'll wait til the teaser and then trailer as usual to see if it's worth a try.
-
is it true trailer will released in july 22?
-
I don't really care about such articles, I will decide the result by watching the first episode.
Then I can judge that is it worth my time or not.
