I liked the Ceremony, I loved the music though. I kept getting so happy that Rite if Spring kept coming on over and over again :)
Also we all know Canada had the best ceremony because it's Canada

@Monkey:
It was just a bunch of pandering pop culture references when it wasn't being really silly depictions of history events, half of which weren't uniquely british (women's suffrage, industrial revolution etc).
It felt reallyā¦ desperate. Like the people were afraid a bunch of bored international teenagers were their only audience.
It was like a trivia night at a bar for Millennials instead of a cool piece of visual theater celebrating the country.
You guys have more history than Russia and you went the HARRYPOTTERJAMESBONDSGTPEPPERS route. :/The ten minute preview of the Brazilian ceremony was already better.
The Industrial Revolution did start in the UK though, or rather, the British were first out the gates with it, hence the British Empire being such a thing until other nations caught up. And the aforementioned NHS thing is neither pop culture nor international. But I see your point even if I don't personally agree with it.
I bet you thought highly of the Closing Ceremony, given that really was just various pop culture items jammed together - look, it's the Spice Girls, they've not existed as a thing for over 10 years and it shows! And Fatboy Slim who was last relevant about the same time period. And so on. Though I did like Eric Idle's bit - I maintain that Monty Python's 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' would make a wonderful national anthem.

And you're saying they should have gone for the Downton Abbey - Dr. Who route instead? I suppose I could see the argument for that, although I'm not entirely sure I agree, to be honest.
@Panda:

What lol
ā¦..................
I'll just say one thing.
I'm surprised at the size of the Brazilian delegation in this olympic, it gives the illusion or reason to cheer for my country.
Why did they have Sochi of all places make the bid anyway?
Sochi is a big tourist city for Russia and all the other CIS nations. Better than have it in the middle of nowhere in some industrial city, I think that's the reasoning anyway.

That's essentially the same thing as Zephos said, just more pandering modern pop culture stuff

old dusty woman nobody cares about squints really hard and looks disappointed to be alive while a bunch of actual british people are singing OY GUVNAH 'ARRY POTTAH IS FISH AND CHIPS
Also always gotta laugh when britain perpetuates the myth and cult of the beatles. our fab four boy band that was insanely popular also coincidentally invented all the good music smart production stuff and Nobody else did before usā¦ wow britains col...
Motherfucking Russians just claimed Igor Sikorsky, fuck you, he ran away from your asses and chose my exact neck of the woods! THATS OUR DUDE RUSSIA. FUCCKKK UUUU

lol just saw the Rings blooper, that was fucking hilarious.
Igor Sikorsky, born in what is now Ukraine. Died and worked, in and around my town.
Apparently one of only 33 things Russia could think of.
Please please tell me that there was a giant inflated Stalin balloon that rose out of the stadium
No, there was not.
And that was a great relief.
Did they have to drug this bear to get him to show up?
Ok, so the Russians march out at the end of the parade of nations and their music they use is, I shit you notā¦
A remix of a Tatu song with We Will Rock You.
So the fake Russian lesbian duo mixed with Freddie Mercury.

This is Putin's way of saying he's down with the gay folk, he just doesn't want them to inhabit the same planet as he does.
shows video on founding of Russia
starts by showing Greeks for some reason

That ladies and gentlemen was a Potemkin Video.
Is NBC delaying the telecast by 8 hours again?
This is a bit late but the speech by the new IOC president about WAAAAH PLEASE DON'T BRING POLITICS INTO THESE PURE AND BEAUTIFUL GAMES was pretty hard to sit through for me.
Also loved how NOBODY wants to mention that Tchaikovsky was gay.
Opening ceremony was really really cool. Loved the floor projector things. And that 10 year old (or however old she was) had to have been nervous as fuck. I had heard that t.A.T.u would actually perform though but I guess that was just a rumor. They did play one of their songs when the Russian team was coming out though. There really wasn't a place that would have fit them in anyway.
Was really annoyed at how many commercial breaks NBC had in the broadcast though. Also at how they focused on the US team for so long when they were coming out.

Eisenstein being in there kind of bugged me as well.

Did I hear that announcer correctly when he said that she fell last year during practice and broke an arm?

Speaking of NBC, has anyone been trying to livestream or watch replays on their Olympics website? I was kind of excited after how amazing it was for the 2012 games, where you could just go to the event schedule and click anything to watch it streaming, even have multiple streams simultaneously, and easily find full replays and recaps. But this time around their site is unresponsive, there's no organized list of streams, and I can't find replays. WTF?
@Harry:
You know what I don't get is the fact the russian government spent billions on these olympics aka entertainment, when there are so many problems in russia: corruption, drug epidemic, poverty, etc. All that money could be allocated more effciently to better areas. Shows how fucked up tthe world is we spend mpre money on sports than the welfare of people and mother nature along with so many other things.
this applies to everyone. Especially when voting and media dictate what is cool, instead or what is morally right.
I don't really want to support the games, but I just can't pass up on olympic hockey. :[
Did I hear that announcer correctly when he said that she fell last year during practice and broke an arm?
Yeah. He said that last year she broke her arm while practicing and they said that if she/her parents wanted her not to do it anymore they could withdraw but the girl still wanted to do it.

I usually don't care about the olympics but hearing about and seeing all these screwups happening in Sochi has piqued my interest.

I hope they kill that bear too!!!
Almost had me .

Yea i got that issue too yesterday which really sucked. It seems that the streams are up through (with crappy 30 mins streaming per day).
LOL Nice one Austria
Putin personally showed up at the Holland Heineken House (Dutch celebration spot for athletes, supporters and partying crown princes/kings) to congratulate bisexual Ireen WĆ¼st on her gold medal. See he doesn't hate gays after all, you gaiz.
Just a reminder that curling is an Olympic sport.
Canada's killin' it 3 more medals today for us!!!!
Just a reminder that curling is an Olympic sport.
I watched this earlier for the first time in my life and it was a very intense viewing session, at least three minutes straight of chin rubbing while I pondered how it would take a very adept author to make a manga about curling any good

Make the turtle have a special ability that hinders the curlers in some bizarre way that they need to overcome via the power of bullshit physics and sheer determination
lol I was on my high school curling team in grade 9
It's more difficult than it looks
Curling is pretty interesting to watch, though. It's like advanced darts or bowling, both of which are infinitely cooler than something like moguls or skeleton.
I'm really just waiting for the hockey to start and end so we can get back to the NHL season. =.=
I'm sad that I'll barely watch any curling this year because of timezonesā¦
lol I was on my high school curling team in grade 9

Nothing looks easy about two people mopping over the floor to direct the path of a weird weight thing
It's just really boring haha. Saying CURLINGS BORING isn't revolutionary, or interesting, or humorous but I really was pretty impressed by the degree of how uninteresting it was my first time seeing it.
All sports are a bit dull until you begin to figure out how it work on a deeper level.
Once you start to spot the little details that's when it takes off
It still strikes me as weird that they tried to kill off wrestling as an Olympic sport while curling, which is essentially team shuffleboard, is still going strong. And this is from somebody who actually likes curling just because of how damned odd it is.
Though I bet if they did try to do away with it, there would be a popular outcry; curling is like the candy corn of winter sports.
curling is like the candy corn of winter sports.
That reminds me, I used to love candy corn when I was a wee lad, but nowadays I find the taste to be much too disgustingly sweet for me.
Weird how your taste buds and affinity for certian foods change from childhood to adulthood.
Kasai Noriaki (ski jumping) is so cute. Me and my Mom have been rooting for him to tie with Stoch for gold. I wonder if we will see him in next Olympics.
May I just say our (Englands) curling team (the girls) got skill.
And are hella cute.
I'm happy our guy won, but I'm kinda disappointed this guy didn't get his gold
!
yellow spandex + flies = conclusion: he must be an X-man
he really deserves it.
I really admire him.
I liked how after his jump all the Japanese people present spontaneously reacted with unbound enthusiasm.

This apparently happened at the Adler Arena skating facility last October.
