    • RE: TemTem- A Pokemon-Like MMO

      @Noqanky:

      Went ahead and purchased Temtem, though I'll be waiting a couple of weeks to play since I got so much on my plate. It's fairly expensive ($35) so I hope it delivers, but given what I've seen and heard so far I'm definitely ok with supporting this game.

      Also cool to see that Jade Cocoon is something other people played. It was one of my unfinished RPG games of the PS1 era along with Guardian's Crusade, which also had loose pokemon appeal in that you found living toys and used them to battle.

      Oh man, I had forgotten Guardian's Crusade. The moment I read that name, I had this vivid image of exactly what the box-art looked like – blocky knight, little pig-thing, pillar of light in the background -- and sure enough, Google confirmed. What a weird memory to have had buried and dredged up. Other than the art, don't think I remember anything about it beyond, as you say, that it was quite fun at the time.

    • RE: What are you reading? (Literature)

      @Nolus:

      So I decided to finally give Terry Pratchett a go, and I find myself pretty overwhelmed with the options (I'm mainly interested in the Discworld series). My question is, should I absolutely go by the publication order, or can I choose a series (I have my eye on the Death saga as well as the City Watch books) and read through that?

      There's no real need to read in publication order, though it is generally good to read the stories of any given 'saga' in order. There's some helpful visualizations out there, like this one:

      @Lord:

      Damn was hoping for your help placing them in the story.

      If you're still interested, I just stumbled across this recommended reading order (though it's worth noting, the person posting this said they didn't think the books by the other author were as good):

      Gardens of the Moon (Steven Erikson)
      Deadhouse Gates (Steven Erikson)
      Memories of Ice (Steven Erikson)
      House of Chains (Steven Erikson)
      Midnight Tides (Steven Erikson)
      Night of Knives (Ian Cameron Esslemont)
      The Bonehunters (Steven Erikson)
      Reaper's Gale (Steven Erikson)
      Return of the Crimson Guard (Ian Cameron Esslemont)
      Toll the Hounds (Steven Erikson)
      Dust of Dreams (Steven Erikson)
      Stonewielder (Ian Cameron Esslemont)
      The Crippled God (Steven Erikson)

      @Lord:

      Have you just read the ten books in the main series?

      Yeah, I haven't read any of the companion series done by his friend.

      They're really solid books, although 'dense' is definitely the right word for them. I've never read another series that throws you right into the middle of things as much as that one does; the first book reads like you managed to somehow skip the actual first couple. Everything in it holds together incredibly well, though.

      A couple fun facts (entirely non-spoiler):

      1. The books are actually based on a D&D campaign he did with some friends.
      2. Aside from being an author, he's an archaeologist and anthropologist, which shines through really clearly in how he does his world-building.

      Hey, thanks for bumping this, Mr. Bot. Never would have found it otherwise, and looks interesting!

      Also, while I'm here, anyone that hasn't read "Let's Speak English" absolutely should. It's adorable as all get-out.

      I'm with Sats. Agree to disagree on Coco, I suppose, but I would absolutely not describe it as just 'alright'. That movie absolutely ruined me emotionally, it was wonderful.

      Ahhhhhh the La Mulana 2 Steam Page is finally up!

      Still not out yet (lists 'Summer'), but I've been waiting years for this game, so I'm super amped!

      @Zack:

      Hope this gets localized.

      No idea what that is, but it's definitely got great style. Although I have to admit that seeing the blindfold from the still made me instantly think of Nier: Automata. I also want to say the music reminded me of music from some other game / show, but I can't quite place it.
