Caught it over the weekend while visiting relatives, I dug it. Wasn't expecting it to be part musical but was all good. Good animation, put that visual flair to use and was much more rounded then Stampede. And what do you know they ACTUALLY showed the villain's backstory in the movie this time. A major flaw in the last "Film" movies (as well as Stampede) is that it's always alluded to it but never showed the backstories and expect folks to look up supplementary material for that. Always irked me that they could dedicate a bit of the runtime to some of the history on who the Straw Hats are dealing with. I don't need constant action, writers.
That said I do think a lot of what lead up to events was rather silly. I mean c'mon Shanks, seriously? A talk with Uta at some point could've avoided all of this. Gotta chide Gordon too, dude if you knew the song was dangerous after what happened the first time but didn't destroy it, you shouldn't be surprised it would return again. =P. And I seriously didn't need the film to be that bittersweet at the end either. No reason Uta couldn't have lived. But eh, she's voiced by a celebrity so... -shrug-.
But I enjoyed it, especially loved the finale, since there's no elite goons to deal with, it was nice to see everyone having to work together to stop the threat and just the interaction of the characters of different arcs in general. It's nothing overly spectacular but it was coherent, explored Uta's motives and wasn't a borefest of a final act that Stampede was. Of the OP ranking I say its in the tops of my faves. right in the middle of Z and Gold.
