I get the feeling the MCU has really ruined what banter is for some people. That line from Luffy is not really a quip.

The idea with Lucky is that if he was selfish and played for himself then he would probably be the best musician out of all of them. But he got so influenced by outside sources as a child that he began playing exclusively to make others happy and it made him worse. Sorachika wants him to go back to being the selfish version becuase he believes Lucky is holding himself back but Lucky doesn't want that because he doesn't want to become something he thinks is uncareing / unkind (like his father).
RE: Chapter 1086: The Five Elders
Hopefully Stephen can go into it a bit more on the podcast on to why he went with these definitions. Ruler can also be taken in a different way to King (as a hero can also be a ruler) but Frame and Flame imply very different things. Frame makes it sound like a ship but Flame makes it sound like a power source.
RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
Loguetown could be the season 2 opener. I could see it being split as:
2: Laboon and Whiskey Peak
3: Little Garden
4: Arriving at Drum Island and meeting Chopper
5: Chopper flashback and beating Wapol
6: Arriving at Alabasta up until leaving Yuba
7: Rainbase and start of Alubarna
8: Alubarna and beating Crocodile
Feels like it would be better for Alabasta to have a fourth episode but it could still work.
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
I don't think you've been understanding what Toga's gone through fully. I feel like the little flashbacks we've been getting for her shows that she's not innately evil or murderous, it's that her quirk gives her an unnatural attraction to blood to the point where she wants to drink it. When she was a young child she didn't know that was wrong but she also never killed anything in order to drink its blood, she just found already dead things. But her parents and society at large absolutely ostricized her and called her a freak and unnatural for doing things that to her felt normal. While she tried initially to hide this feeling and be 'normal' it was mentally taxing and no one was willing to listen to her, everyone from family to other audlts to class mates called her a freak and weirdo, which lead to her eventually snapping and killing someone.
All she wanted was to be treated normally, like everyone else, despite her quirk but no one gave her the time of day and it forced her into becoming a villain. But she doesn't want to be one. The reason she doesn't take a villain name is because she just wants to be herself and be acknowldged for it. The reason Twice's quirk is the only one she can replicate from the villain group is because he was the only one that fully accepted her just being her (at least that she knows) and so she loved him for that reason.
I don't think anyone here thinks that Toga is going to get off scott free. Just as Shigiraki is also a serial killer, he's also a victim of manipulation and abuse and he may also get Talk no Jutsu'd. But there will be punishment for that in the end, like life in prison for both of them. What Ochako has recognised and what she is saying here is that all Toga needed to avoid this path is just to have someone to listen to her side of things and understand who she is. Someone to treat her like she's normal, despite her quirk. And that's what Ochako is saying she'll do. She can't forgive her for killing lots of people and she can't absolve her of her crime but she can visit her in jail, be her friend and be someone she can lean on. Someone she can be a normal girl around where they can talk about romance and fashion and anything else 'normal' high school girls would talk about.
Ultimately, whether this all ends up being satisfying or not is going to depend on how Hori ends this. If Toga does literally just get away with murder and is fully forgiven by everyone for her crimes then that's bad. She has no 'bring everyone back to live again power' that Pain had in Naruto, which was the author trying to absolve him of his crimes. But I don't think Hori will go that way and so far in this final arc I would say this has been the most well-laid out and engaging conflict between hero and villain.
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Vivi's been gone long enough that her power could literally be anything. We have no idea what she did in those 2 years, maybe her and Kohza trained with each other every day or something. If Vivi needs to be strong enough to deal with actual threats then she will be.
As for Carrot we'll see in the next chapter whether it happens or not. I would like it to as I would like an ew crew member, but we'll see. One thought I did have though is that Carrot does have another reason to join now. She's been asked to be King but she clearly seemed hesitant about it, although not totally against it. The idea that people had for Momo - going out to sea to become stronger and learn how to be a true leader - could be used for Carrot instead. And with one of the themes of the next saga absolutely being what it means to be a King (Pirate King, Im, Vivi, Revolutionaries) this could track. But next chapter will decide that.
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
It's kind of clever because we know Bakugo's blood is nitroglycerin and in real life nitroglycerin is actually used in medicine to dialate blood vessels and help the heart pump blood around the body. And it's believable that Bakugo's sweat could've entered his blood vessels via any of the cuts and bruises he has on his body. So this recovery saves Edgeshot, allows Bakugo to be responsible for his own revival and is based in actual science.
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I rather enjoyed Artur's deep dive into the Greek/Roman roots of the planet's names, as well as the Japanese interpretations of them. Perhaps it's more obvious what Imu represents than we once thought....
I think Imu's been pretty obvious since the start. It's literally Umi (sea) backwards and the ultimate enemy of devil fruit users is the sea. People have also theorized for a long time about an enemy that could potentially control water - would make sense for the final big bad.
RE: Egghead cuttaways
I'm not a fan in the moment but I want to wait until Egghead is done before I fully judge it. With the revelation that Blackbeard's pirate crew are coming to Egghead, Shanks is looking for Blackbeard, Morgans is monitoring the situation on Egghead somehow and that tomorrow will be a huge Earth-shaking event, I think in hindsight all these cutaways are going to be relevant for what is to come for the final act of Egghead.
Like, we now know that not all the BB pirates are coming to Egghead because they are being held up by Garp and Law, but BB himself may still arrive later. Shanks might also arrive now on Egghead and we know why. And the newspaper from Morgans may end up being what alerts all the Straw Hat Grand Fleet to show up and save Luffy. Or maybe Morgans himself will show up to get the big scoop on tomorrows event. At the same time, all this has helped set-up for possible future arcs, explaining how both Shanks and BB got the Road Poneglyphs, setting up Kid for Elbaf, possibly having Garp captured by BB.
It has been quite clunky in execution but I think all this stuff may tie-in together nicely by the end of Egghead and make more sense.
RE: Official Egghead Thread
This can be easily solved by not having a large downtime or period of respite between Round 1 and 2.
The crew doesn't need to suffer a real defeat for you to create this sense. Scatter them, kill some more Vegapunks, get some crewmates captured, make a scenario of imminent defeat.
THEN something happen that changes the tide of battle. Someone unexpected arrives. The Iron Giant awakens. Kuma saves the day. The Blackbeard Pirates interfere. This gives the crew the chance to regroup and adapt and push back the marine tide.
The marine siege does not need to be halted. The Straw Hats do not need to rest. It all feels like one single battle, but in story terms you did have act 2 to establish threat, stakes and struggle, and act 3 for the final confrontation and resolution.
But see, in this case I don't unserstand what people are complaining about because this is happening. Right now in the manga. The Vegaforce 1 was destroyed and that was their means of escape. Bonney has fallen down into the sea of Marines in the Fabriophase and is in danger of being captured or worse. Sentomaru is down. Stussy is down. Robin is potentially out of the fight as well due to her injuries. The crew are all being split up with Franky and Sanji going down below; Luffy, Zoro and Jinbei off on their own and the rest of the crew left to take care of Robin and try to escape.
This is the high tension moment and it's only going to get higher when Saturn arrives, the Seraphim escape and maybe when the Blackbeard pirates appear (depending on their role in all this). I'm getting the impression that you just want the tension to be even higher than it already is, which is fair enough sure, but you've been saying stuff like this arc having a restart and this not feeling like the climax and something else needs to happen for it to make sense from a literary perspective but that's just not true.
We've had the introduction phase and we're in the conclusion of act 2 with the rising stakes and climax. Act 3 will most likely come when either Saturn finally steps out and does his thing (because that's the highest point of the rising stakes) or when Kuma finally arrives/the giant robot wakes up because these are the two variables being set-up to help them escape (either by battling the marines for them or taking the Vegaforce 1's place and helping them escape).

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 10 - Egghead)
I still think Bonney's crew status entirely depends on Kuma's outcome. If he dies then I would give it a 90% because she has nowhere to really go after that (unless the Revos show up and she wants to go their way for some reason). If Kuma lives then she has a 0% chance because she'll always pick her father over anyone else, even Nika.
RE: Chapter 1108: Come In, World
I'm surprised less people have talked about the beeping machine on the final page tbh. It goes beep, beep, then cracks and fisses out, and the causes the screen to come on. Surely that's a heart monitor and it shows us that Vegapunk has actually died (or at least his heart has stopped beating).
RE: UNDEAD UNLUCK
That first point could be something actually. If her Unluck works by attaching soul chains to people she likes, then if she cuts them before the unluck kicks in does that cancel her unluck curse? And is this a thing of all external negator types? It's interesting.
I don't think we're getting a Haki situation with this, but the negator abilities do suddenly give me Devil Fruit vibes. If the theory that Devil Fruits actually house souls and when you eat one the soul of that Devil Fruit enters you and that's how you get your power, then is it the case that the negation ability is actually a soul that fuses with your own soul and persits after death, finding a new soul to inhabit every time? Would explain why only one person can have each ability at a time.
RE: Chapter 1108: Come In, World
sounds like it's time for a cutaway again then :p
In all seriousness, I do think Vegapunk should have a flashabck but I don't think it needs to be any longer than two chapters really. Vegapunk's youth where he meets Dragon and Clover and becomes fascinated with the Void Century is the main thing. Meeting Dragon doesn't even need to happen here either as it can happen in his own flashback. While I'd love to also see MADS and how that fell apart, that could also happen in a mini Weevil/Bakin flashback in a future arc instead.
RE: Official Egghead Thread
I think it depends on what Oda's plan is for Kuma's devil fruit tbh. I was sure Kuma was going to die so everyone could escape because they had really emphasised the fact that he was basically already dead and his memories are now gone. But ever since Kuma failed to defeat Saturn before passing out, and Vegapunk talking about the Bucaneer power allowing Kuma to move when he shouldn't, I am starting to think Oda is priming us for a happy ending for Kuma and Bonney. One where Kuma escapes with them and is repaired by one of the Punks, and then the Bucaneer power somehow allows him to regain his conciousness back.
RE: Official Egghead Thread
I've been seeing some people in other places being less hyped on Egghead due to how it's showing the WG and Marines to look incompetent. Part of that I feel is now that we are in end game, the threat that high leveled opponents posed such as Admirals are greatly diminished. For a crew with a captain that took down a Yonko 1v1, even accounting for others that briefly fought against Kaido, are going to have a lot less to worry about. That said, I think the bigger issue with some is how easily everything is being turned against the Marines and makes them look like a joke as a force, and personally, I feel like it's intentional.
Looking at the series as a whole, ever since the age of pirates started, the balance has been lofty at best. The WG is able to maintain a facade of control, but we clearly see in various ways that they maintain very little, with the obvious focus of the WG to keep the CD's happy and at the top of the world in terms of controlling the world. Anything outside of that can be easily discarded, and even the Marines outside of those like Koby and Smoker are fine with the system they work in. Egghead feels like the natural fact of everything, that ultimately while a sizable force, the Marines and WG aint'shit. Their one saving grace is that despite so many powerful forces out in the ocean, those forces are scattered and against each other. Now with the new generation, those forces are slowly changing and consolidating. Multiple groups of powerful crews are joining forces, and the WG will be unable to keep their control, as we've seen with Marijoa in shambles after the attack by the Revolutionaries, and now their creations that were to bolster their power being used against them.
So besides Kuma and Bonney's story being so well done, I've been pretty content with all these developments myself. Still, I can understand that some are justified in being disappointed and wanting more of a showing from the Marines
I get the feeling Oda isn’t trying to top Kaido with Egghead’s villains.
He had Bellamy after Crocodile, Foxy after Enel, etc. So he prob really doesn’t care to worry to make Saturn tons more threatening than Kaido because there’s no real point in doing so.
So Oda is prob treating this more like a glorified version of a transition arc like Jaya or Long Ring Long Land and making every excuse possible to draw cool designs and attack panels even if Saturn isn’t the same as Kaido.
That said, the bigger threats may start coming by the time of Elbaf. We’ll have to see.
Considering where we are in the story, Blackbeard is the only one that will be a huge threat from how I see it. With Big Mom and Kaido out of the picture, he's making moves to grab everything he needs to further his plan and it's only going to get crazier with how his crew functions and their capabilities. Imu will have great story significance, but I have my doubts on being a threat on a physical level. Only other character power wise is Shanks, but I don't see him as a huge threat since he's more a friend than an enemy.
If we have some smaller arcs more for build up with some fights, I have my doubts that anything on the level of Kaido or even Katakuri will be happening anytime soon, and I'm fine with that. I'm very curious just how everything is going to go between now and the Crew finding the One Piece
Oda went from Arlong to Crocodile to Doflamingo to Kaido throughout the span of many years. He knows how to "one-up himself", so any doubts of Oda making a villain more threatening than Kaido will likely be addressed soon enough.
Crocodile to Doflamingo was quite the jump though. That said, we will definitely get a villain stronger than Kaidou. Blackbeard, Imu, Shanks (if he goes that route), Rocks (if he's still alive) and maybe even Garland (given we know so little about him) are all pretty good candidates.
RE: Volume 108 Predictions/Discussion
the only rule is that Luffy has to be on it unless Oda is setting up a multi-volume theme (so villains vs. heroes or the trio that made up 99-101).
So Volume 87 is like that too? Because Luffy isn’t on it either.
Yes. That's the villain one. And then it was followed up the hero Volume.
