@Cockycent:
Yup, Jinbe's priority has always been Fishman Island. His situation isn't like Yamato.
Situations aren't being compared.
The point is a character saying they will die for another character doesn't mean they're going to be by heir side forever. It doesnt even mean they're going to die. Ace never said he'd die for Luffy but he lost his life protecting Luffy.
Jimbe had a relationship with WB and strong reasons to die for WB and didn't nor did he join him. Yamato identifies as Oden and its through that where he feels he has reason to say he would die for Momo. Doesn't mean he'll be his retainer.
Yamato was inspired by Oden and that is his earliest source of reasoning for wanting to die for Momo
.
Yamato never said he wants to die for Momo.
If you don't know the difference between saying I would die for you and saying I want to die for you you're not going to be able to properly discuss this.
Nothing has gone further back than that. Luffy wasn't born yet.
Yamato never said he wanted to die for Momo.
You're confusing Yamato identifying as Oden and being inspired by him when he was young as wanting to die for Momo. Thats just wrong.
Priorities are different here. Jinbe made sure he attended to any active duty before joining. Yamato is putting Momo first and not attempting to leave him
Cuz Luffy told him to protect Momo and Shinobu.
He even said he would get on the boat with him.
Where does Yamato say he would get on the boat with Momo? Can you post that?
Cuz all I read was Yamato saying to them that their chance to escape by sea is gone.
WB is dead. Momo is alive. Jinbe doesn't have that as an option anymore. Yamato still has Momo around as the priority.
Have you already forgotten I'm talking about when WB was alive? LOL
So this isn't a sufficient reply.
Luffy isn't the reason for Yamato wanting to die for Momo.
Yamato doesnt want to die for Momo though. Luffy is the reason that Yamato is presently protecting Momo and Shinobu.
Yamato made it clear.
All that Yamato has made clear is that he would die for and that he wants to be on the roof top fighting Kaido with Luffy and that he's worried about Luffy's welfare.
Yamato wanting to die for Momo didn't start with Luffy pointing
It didn't start at all.
Yamato doesn't want to die for Momo.
Maybe this is a language barrier thing.
Yamato told Momo and Shinobu he would die for them after he met Luffy. After he discovered Momo was alive. It couldn't have haplened before that cuz Yamato has never met Momo before.
Yamato reason for that has to Oden and in the past there isn't a single panel where Yamato says he would die for anyone. However, when Yamato talked to Momo about the past he did mention that he wanted to save him back then but he never said he wanted to die for anyone.
Those are just the facts.
Yeah, he wish, but has not acted on it
.
He hasn't acted on it yet cuz he's doing what Luffy told him to do; protect Momo and Shinobu.
Luffy didn't inspire Yamato's statement to Momo
.
Who said that?
No one.
Luffy told Yamato to protect Momo and Shinobu though.
I posted the page already. He states how powerless he was during Oden's execution. That is before he meets Ace and knows of Luffy. He then declares that he would die for Momo
Those are two different things.
Yamato talks about the past. Then Yamato talks about the present. The past event is before he met Ace or Luffy. The statement in the present is after he met Ace and Luffy.
It seems your issue is you're not telling the difference between past and present tense.
Yamato says "…. I would die for you." Yamato does not say "I would've died for you".
I would die for you is present tense meaning now, after he met Luffy and Ace. I would've died for you means I would've died for you 20 years in the past which Yamato NEVER says.
He stated Shinobu's words and Oden's actions as why he would die for Momo
.
In the present.
Luffy's words are in the current day.
Luffy's words are about protecting Momo and Shinobu. Nothing else
Luffy pointing them out and directing Yamato
Luffy didn't do this.
Luffy told Yamato to protect both of them.
Telling someone to protect ppl is not pointing out.
doesn't negate his feelings and reasonings that date back before he knew Luffy.
Luffy telling Yamato to protect Momo and Shinobu has nothing to do with feelings or anything you're talking about.
It's why he'd die for Momo and states he would save Shinobu.
Which happened after he met Ace and Luffy.
It's good to monitor as I weigh his retainer chances.
It's a good monitor according to what?
It certainly doesn't measure up to.how Oden got any of his retainers.
A lot of it is coming together.
Yeah, Yamato joining seems pretty obvious at this point.
Didn't think Oda would pair him up as the duo of Shinobu and Yamato fight through enemies. Good build up on Oda's part.
Yeah Yamato doing what Luffy couldn't do at the moment and following his orders to protect Momo and Shinobu is good build up.
