Over $500 million in the opening weekend….good god almighty.
Jurassic World

It was a fun movie, but if this goes ahead and becomes a franchise again.. meh.

Yo dog we heard you like franchises so we went and hit you up with a franchise on top of the franchise you already have.
-
I like the Lost World until they get to Sandiego. The third one is just forgetful, like this one.
-
Wow… A week ago the most generous box office prediction had it for 110-130 mil opening.
So happy for this film. -
You will have spared yourself from watching two incredibly "meh" movies.
Actually JP3 is fine as a dumb B movie if you're into that. And I guess you could watch the San Diego segment of Lost World.
But I don't have to watch 2 and 3 to understand Jurassic World?
Because I just finished the first one.
-
No, you have to watch them in order to understand the secret message that mr dna left us.

Over $500 million in the opening weekend….good god almighty.
Half a billion in a few days!? JEZZUS!!! I would expect something like that from Star Wars or Avengers but a Jurassic Park sequel?! What!? I haven't even seen the movie yet because I wasn't interested but apparently everyone else was.
-
I'm still amazed that Furious 7 beat out Age of Ultron, and, actually, is close to passing the original Avengers.

Well, Furious 7 was actually pretty good for a "pure action flick" because it was exactly what you expected and more. Paul Walker's death definitely brought more attention to the film, no offense, and it delivered a genuinely emotional send off. Not cry your eyes out emotional, at least not for me, but it was heartfelt. The movie had a lot of heart behind the special effects, car revving, gun shooting, and punching people in the face.
It doesn't hurt that it had a strong cast, recognition of a popular and long running series (characters included), and glowing reviews from the critics.

Yeah and if Jurassic World makes that opening weekend, what the hell is Star Wars going to do?!
-
Box office grosses mean less all the time. Ticket prices keep rising, and they add more 3D tickets and Imax tickets and markets get bigger overseas, etc. etc.
Tickets sold is the real borometer rather than box office, and in that regard probably nothing is ever going to beat Gone with the Wind… which was in theaters for years and had no competition from television.
I'm still amazed that Furious 7 beat out Age of Ultron, and, actually, is close to passing the original Avengers.
In the next week or two even. It's only about 8 million away… but still has a long haul to match Titanic. Crazy, I thought Avengers would hold third place longer longer, but then... stuff like Transformers 3 and 4 both did 1.1 billion, so... special effects are clearly enough to some degree to get things up there.
Yeah and if Jurassic World makes that opening weekend, what the hell is Star Wars going to do?!
Depends on the early reviews. But probably really good.
I can't imagine it not hitting at least a billion overall regardless of the quality.

Oh I think it'll hit a billion easily, but how fast? If its awesome then I think this'll feed into Episode 8 and that will pass Avatar for highest grossing movie of all time.

Do good in returns but be hated by the fans who still pine for old school star wars?
-
I watched it on friday and I liked it =)
It had some funy moments, to be honest, more funy moments then scary/shocking moments… I believe that I had more fear and shocking moments with the first movie, then with this one. But well, I got older too^^It was cool to see the whole modern technik stuff and the dinos were great. You can say about the cast what you want, but I loved the owner of the park (Irrfan Khan) and hated the "bad" guy... Also I was really skeptic when I saw the trailer with the Velociraptors running next to the motorbike of Owen, but in the end it worked out well.
3D was as unnecessary as ever (there was only 3d at our cinema), so I am looking forward to watch it "normal" on my tv =) I will go and buy it on dvd as soon as possible and rewatch it :D

One God, One Diesel.

@Steven:
One God, One Diesel.
! FLEX-CASTING FOREVER
! I will defend the dignity and heart of this film till the day I die -
@Steven:
One God, One Diesel.
But as God makes mistakes, Diesel makes "The Pacifier".

Jurassics World accounted for 70℅ of the weekend box office. World wide.
-
I just dont understand WHY this is so big. I understand it being big, a strong opening weekend… but this?
-
Chris Pratt and animal shenanigans is a license to print money.
Jurassic Park is a beloved franchise though and this film is a return to form. If anything, I'm surprised projections were as low as they were.
-
Chris Pratt just went from A-Lister to A-Lister that can demand a lot more money.
-
Dude's S-class at this point.

Chris Pratt just went from A-Lister to A-Lister that can demand a lot more money.
Not bad for a guy that had roles in films like "Jennifer's Body" and "Movie 43".

Thoughts on Jurassic Park 4:
-
I just dont understand WHY this is so big. I understand it being big, a strong opening weekend… but this?
My best guess:
Kids love dinosaurs. It's been 14 years since the last Jurassic Park movie (and 21 years since the last genuinely good one) and you've got a whole new generation of kids who haven't seen dinosaurs on the big screen. Combined with the fact that this is, from what I've heard, a reasonably fun and entertaining summer movie and -BOOM!- success.
-
Marvel & Kevin Feige congratulate Jurassic World on topping their record:

Congrats Mr. Spielberg @UniversalPics @Legendary @LeDoctor @colintrevorrow and especially @prattprattpratt

I definitely enjoyed the movie and seeing the dinos fight was cool, but it ain´t reaches the status of the first one for me.
I sure will see it again (not in theaters, thought) so it has a lot going for it.
It was just all a bit to obvious and cliche, but seeing some stunning stuff is never wrong for a movie.
My rating is between 7and 8 out of 10. -

I don't think the cases are similar at all and in this case I think people need to get their heads out of their asses. The character is terribly one-dimensional and exaggerated, but the only point is that she only thinks in terms of numbers. Her rigidity in that respect affects not only her job and the dinosaurs, but her human interactions, relatability, and priorities. If the movie wants to make a point that emotions, empathy, and family are important, then that's totally legitimate, no matter how ham-fistedly the point may be conveyed. Such as by contrasting it with people who deeply love animals or deeply love family despite the difficulties. You're allowed to disagree about life priorities. But no. Of course the point is "get in bedroom woomun and make da babbies, u no smart enough to run biznezz and it make u bad person."
-
well chris pratt was equally one dimensional. all the characters were terrible. I don't know why the writers felt the need to force a romance story in the middle of a dinosaur action movie but the writing sucked in every aspect so it's not surprising.
-
Ha. That reminds me of Joss Whedon openly attacking this film and labelling it as sexist after watching a minute clip of conversation between BDH and CP. (oh the article says that too)
Ahahaha the same guy that made avengers2For me I saw and felt 0 sexism with this film.
Didn't even think about it while watching. Guess these guys really do grasp at straws in these kinds of stuff.
Who cares, people are watching it and it's not damaging the sales.
Whine some more for added publicity. -
It was kind of sexist, specialy:
! when the kids are reunited with the adults, just when the aunt was saving chris, and being badass about it, and then they insist on going with him instead of her.
! They haven't seen him tame raptors, or outsmart the IRex or do anything else except hold off a flying lizard, we as the audience are supposed to be awed by a cesar milan that handles dinosaurs the goddamned raptor wisperer, they just saw a dude failing to hold of a killer chicken. -
Well, I saw the movie now and…meh.
! The characters were stupid and terrible. Why is the lady who refused to evacuate the island and instead herded everyone into a single spot to get easily picked off not under arrest by the end of the movie? Instead she gets to look after the wounded looking saintly and concerned and walk off into the sunlight with the "hero". Speaking of which….what did Chris Pratt do besides get in the way of releasing the Raptors which btw helped take down the Indominus Rex? Seriously, if it wasn't for the Terrible Lady who released the T-Rex and 'Blue the Raptor' no one was taking down that Indominus Rex anytime soon. I'm a little torn about the Terrible Lady. She made some pretty badass turns near the end of the film but they didn't really make up for her colossally stupid decisions she made at the beginning of the film.
! And the "Bad Guy" in that film, I was rooting for him up until near the end! It wasn't his fault that thing was on the loose. Again, that was the TERRIBLE LADY'S fault who was in charge of the park and approved every dinosaur made there. The "Bad Guy" was just trying to stop the thing with some Raptors and random mercenary men....yeah, that part was really confusing. Who does he even work for? The vague U.S. government military? They just have mercenaries parked outside Jurrasic World all day all year just in case? Sure.
! Oh, and the kids were freaking annoying. I didn't like the kid characters in the first Jurrasic Park and these ones definitely weren't doing it for me.
! Anyway, the dinosaurs looked cool and the fight at the end was nice so there's that. -

! To be fair none of the civilian visitors would have been hurt had the bird cage not been broken. Cuz by the time IRex got there everyone was in a safe area
! No one would have been hurt if the Indominus Rex hadn't been released in the first place, but it happened. In the end, no one would have been hurt if she evacuated the island like she was told to do in the first place. She couldn't have known the birdcage would be broken, true, but she did know there was a killing machine on the loose purposefully headed right towards her civilian population. That killing machine was also responsible for breaking the birdcage so, really, the danger was always present. It just got worse as the situation moved forward and didn't do enough to ensure the safety of her guests. Anyone who is in charge of a civilian population that large should know to take better precautions than that, especially on an island with man eating beasts. With a precedent of those beasts getting loose…
-
Honestly, the movie would've been far more fun if more people got hurt.
Oh another thing:
I really don't understand the gripe against characters making stupid decisions in movies like these. I hope people realize that for a "fun disaster movie" to occur that characters need to make remarkably stupid decisions. If characters didn't make stupid decisions, we probably wouldn't even have Jurassic Park to begin with (as the very concept is remarkably stupid in itself). So yeah, what's the gripe with characters making stupid decisions? It makes the movie…more fun.
Albeit it doesn't make the movie realistic in terms of characters, but this is freaking Jurassic Park/World. Since when has it been about making a realistic story with realistic characters?
-
I would have been able to handle the stupid decisions better if the actual characters were likeable or had any kind of charisma together. They all sucked.
-
That could've been rectified if they actually KILLED some of them (honestly it's a real bummer about that PG13 rating as it really is stifling at times) rather than the obvious fodders.
And to be fair, these characters were a whole lot better than Lost Word's (which is not saying much but boy were Lost World's characters remarkably shitty).
-
Yeah, stupid character decisions has to be offset by likability. Literally, one of the worst characters was supposed to be our female protagonist. She made one or two good decisions near the end and I guess they expected us to really like her by then. Nah.
-
People make mistakes and have lapses in judgement, sure.
But characters in movies don't need to be complete idiots to make plots work. When they are, that often means there's a problem in the plot.
You can at least address them trying something sensible first, and then just say "well we can't do that because…" or just make it clear they're missing a crucial piece of information that the audience has, such as "the power is out in this one area so if we go there instead of escaping we'll be trapped" and it covers a lot.
Its not hard to have intelligent characters still get screwed by circumstance or the moment.
-
I….liked it a lot? This coming from the guy that's barely familiar with the Jurassic Park movies.
! First I thought Nick from New Girl having all of the dinosaur merch and an actual Jurassic Park shirt was just really really cheesy and unsubtle, then I realized…"wait, there was an actual Jurassic Park in this movie world"
! Actually product placement was all over the place: Brookstone, Starbucks, etc....I felt like Cinema Sins.
! I did actually get freaked out / terrified when the pterodactyls started to pick up and attack everyone. Dear lord the way the British assistant went out....
! One thing did confuse me. The science team obsessed with preserving their research managed to get off the island just fine....uh....is this supposed to be a sequel hook, or something? Aren't they to be hold accountable for this? -

Ok finally I've been able to watch it.
What to say…I have 2 votes depending on how are we watching it. If we take it as a blockubster, cool, great movie. Entertaining and marvellous (if Transformers was well made, then this is a masterpiece) and deserves a 7.
If I have to judge it in a JP context, then it's absolutely negative, a 4. It has ruined the franchise changing its original meaning forever...As a "cool movie":
! -Graphically stunning, nice special effects. A little too much CGI for me (but that depends on the budget too) but it was well done.
-Cast is ok, even though most of the characters are to be despised. With the exception of Owen you wanna see everybody die (which is not necessairly a bad thing), especially Claire that is one of the responsables for everything that happens but in the end she’s like a "good character", pretty incoherent… Meh. Anyway nice boobs.
-2 kids are hateful, one just looking at girls and the other one a nerdy kind of dickhead, but that's a classic for this kind of movies. I understand why the parents wanted them to go there by themselves…
-Cool comedic moments
-Nice technology and stuff, a little exaggerated (like the kayak on the river or the crystal balls)
-Overall the dinosaurs are the protagonists but that's normal. Velociraptors are cool, Mosasaurs rulez…the Dicksaurus (official name) is bullshit, but we'll forgive them.
-The romantic look between Owen and the raptors well...that's more a Flipper movie kind of thing...
-Entertaining
-Random notes: Owen is a good actor. Claire's got nice boobs. Wu still working there? How that happened… The militarist dies, obviously. Have I said that Claire's got nice boobs? As a "JP movie":
! -Ok the "homages", but here is too much. The hints to the first JP don't look like homages to me, but more like things made specifically to justify the movie as a sequel, which is ridiculous. Especially when the 2 kids find the original buliding of JP…come on. It's hidden in the jugle like it's a mayan pyramid. It was huge, it had labs, etc. and yet we don't see aynthing beisdes the main hall...and you're telling me it was abandoned like this? Come on…
-Plot not good, in terms of how it has been done. There are 4-5 scenes that are literally IDENTICAL to the 1st movie. Dicksaurus in his cage=raptors in the cage (intelligent, hide in the woods, attack those who bring food, try to escape, kill their siblings, etc.), Dicksaurus vsKids=TRex vsKids (same angle, same dinamic), dying Diplodocus=sick Triceratops (same), Protagonist surrounded by the raptors in the hall=Protagonists surrounded by the raptors in the hall...even the final fight looked like the TRexvsSpino of the 3rd. By the way, it's the 3rd time pterosaurs escapes in 4 movies (besides they were in a buliding of GLASS...must've been 780° inside...). And let's not forget Claire looking for the kids just when the accident happens like Hammond…
-The whole idea of creating this tremendous Dicksaursus is clearly insane in all the ways possible…Why creating it by the way? The’re talking about having more visitors, buti t makes no sense in a Dino Park…there are people nowadays that still invades zoos and seaworlds, do you think that something so much cooler like dinosaurs are gonna be less interesting? Maybe after 250 years but not after 3-4… What’s even worse it’s by who the park is run. The owner is a dumb guy who doesn’t understand anything and the directo ris a 30yo girl that is good at business but understand nothing about security and dinos….If she was handling an hotel in Montecarlo it would have been ok, but not a park with lethal creatures ! Very realistic. Hammond ovverrated himself and he admitted it. Here we’re making mistakes 10 times bigger and yet nobody say sorry at all…
-The main thing that is disturbing it’s the link with JP . It’s like the wanted to start over from zero : same story, same situations, same characters (almost), but everything exaggerated. The thing that made the 1st JP special was the attemp to build a park with dinosaurs that failed miserably because it was too pretentious. Here we start taking for granted that everything works perfectly, taking off all the danger that it’s needed ! If it wasn’t for the creation of a Dino much brighter, much more aggressive, etc. nothing would hae happened. That is DISAPPOINTING. The good thing about JP was that everyone realized that dinos couldn’t be controlled, while here they are easily controlled and even domesticated and can have « feelings » for others and for humans. Let this kind of crap to other romantic movies…
-Random notes : Girl running in the jungle with a stiletto, not the best of ideas. Parents sending 2 childrenalone in a park with dinosaurs…yeah, sure! Dinos used in the army is a ridiculous idea. More efficient than machines? Come on, that’s why tigers and bears are normally used in wars right ? By the way, where is the real security in the park ? The guys from Igen take control in like 2 minutes without problems… Kayak cruises with chances to see Baryonyx or Suchomimus? Very safe.
Overrall, JW as a “stand alone” movie might be better than Lost World or JP3, but the lack of an original plot and especially the total change of the meaning of the JP franchise and the significance it had (and in this case the other movies where coherent as a whole) make it an irremediable failure. And I’m worried for the sequels… -

Anyways the movie was a lot of fun but man that second half really deflated. I was all over the first half, total popcorn movie greatness.
But such a sloppy sloppy second half, beh. It's easily better then 2 and 3, especially 3, 3 was so boring it was criminal.
Obviously this has nothing on 1.

That whole Alien 2 plot, where they want to weaponize the creature is always delightfully stupid.
Bonus point for wanting to take it alive. And then when you do decide to kill it you use small arms.
One would assume that they'd have started to consider the probability of this happening.
