Nixon laughs from Hell.

That's right Trump. Admit you tape record things.
I'm sure no one will request them or find it suspicious when there's and 18 minute 20 second gap on one of them that happens to be the length of Alice's Restaurant.

Honestly, it seemed the other way around to me. The actual tweet reads as follows:
James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!
Obviously a threat but nothing to suggest he had tapes.

Other way around how? Yeah, it's obviously a threat, so it's witness intimidation at the very least. It's also completely baseless if he doesn't actually have recordings… so the logical conclusion is that he does have recordings. What exactly are you arguing?

That there's nothing suggesting TRUMP has recordings that I could infer like others seem to have. Seems to me the reverse, he's threatening Comey if COMEY claims to have "tapes" (what's with the quotes in his tweet, anyway?)
Otherwise just seems a generic, not specific threat
-

It's definitely intended as a threat either way.
Either "I have tapes that show you being awful too"
or
"If you have tapes I'll have you murdered before you testify"Either way its meant to be intimidating.

That part I'm not arguing

Because the phrasing of it seems like Trump is trying to blackmail Comey. You can interpret it the other way but that doesn't seem the way it's phrased.
Trump wouldn't say publicly "I hope he has nothing on me". I mean, how could COmey, Trump is clearly innocent after all.
But he would go "I have things on you, so don't dare."
So yes, it really heavily suggests Trump is recording stuff. Maybe not 24/7 like Nixon did but…

To me it just comes off as a generic threat with no details behind it one way or another.

Trump is "paranoid" about surveillance
Bloomberg columnist Timothy O’Brien, who has covered Mr Trump since 1989, has told the BBC that the president hates the idea of surveillance.Take this morning. He got up and tweeted that he might have tapes of him and Comey talking. But he used to say the same thing to reporters – ‘I've got a recording system in my office and I'm taping you’, and he didn't have one.
This whole idea of surveillance really gets to him, he's very paranoid about it. He's a paranoid person, and I think Russia has weighed much more heavily on his mind than people fully understand.
The tweets this morning are akin to the wiretapping tweets about Obama. It’s not a diversion. What he's doing is waking up and saying, "I feel this way about something and I'm going to let the world know, and I don't care about the consequences."
He may not have recordings after all, but he's definitely made these sorts of threats before. We shouldn't be interpreting his tweet this morning to mean that he thinks Comey has recordings.

shrug I stand by my statement. When I read the tweet it came off to me as a generic threat in case Comey had something. Seems I was wrong but I still don't see how the tweets wording suggests that Trump has the recordings.

"Even I"… Okay. You can be ignorant of all the obvious signs that this is totally the sort of threat Trump has made, is making, and will continue to make all you want.

That should be"When I" (phone auto correct…). I honestly didn't know he'd made similar threats before, but even if I had that one specific tweet did not come off as such a threat at the time that I read it.

"Before you attack me, you better hope that no one here is carrying a weapon!"
Would it make sense for me to say this if my hypothetical assailant is the one who has the weapon? No.

Yes. However, as I've repeatedly said, that's not what I saw when I first saw the tweet, and no new information i get now will change what my initial response was.
To go back to your original question, what exactly are you arguing? I've already acknowledged I'm wrong here. Even of I'm not, I'm (a) clearly the minority opinion and (b) don't really care enough to argue the point all that much.
So to me you seem a lot more fixated on this matter than I myself am.

Just trying to help.

Did Donald Trump just break the law?

Also worth noting, that doesn't cover the 100 million he was given for developing golf courses, or loans.
Bush kept the US safe from terrorism with some exceptions
Trump is a fine businessman, who has carried a remarkably low level of debt through his career, with some exceptions.

(1) influence, delay, or prevent the testimony of any person in an official proceeding;I'm no expert on american law, but it says "testimony in official proceeding". That would not include leaking or sharing information with the press. It probably only applies to information shared under oath (ie testifying to congress, a court, or the house).
So no, he's not breaking the law. If that law weren't limited to testimony, then it'd be illegal to say "keep your mouth shut or else" in any capacity, and that law would probably violate the first amendment.
-
And Comey has been tapped to testify. On Tuesday.
So yes, the thinly veiled threat to keep him from talking would apply.

More in the series of "people who voted for Trump pay for it later," this day it's North Carolina. I'm wondering if they were included in the latest approval rating?
Trump Shafts North Carolina After Hurricane Matthew Relief Request -
I wonder what happened between 2012 and 2016 that lead to such a deflation of black voters. Whatever it is, I'm sure Trump's voter fraud investigation will fix this.

Probably all the voter suppression

Naaaaaaah, that can't be it.

3. Trump puts vote suppressor Kris Kobach on “election integrity” commission

Trump Shafts North Carolina After Hurricane Matthew Relief RequestI saw some great people on twitter saying "haha serves you trump voters right, you deserve [to have your life ruined or taken away for voting differently]", ignoring that
A. A little under half of North Carolina voted for Clinton
B. Most of the people impacted by this are poor, Black, and voted for Clinton, and
C. Saying that someone deserves to die because of how they voted is unbelievably cruel and fucked up and people who then turn around and criticize TrumpCare after saying stuff like that should get swirlied for being a bunch of hypocrites. -
Also, what do you do when your representative isn't listening? Fuck with em. Literally.

The tricky thing with parody today is it's becoming increasingly difficult to tell from what's actually happening.

It may have already been posted, I don't know. Anyway, John Oliver brought up some relevant points about Dump's daughter.
Can we compare this to how Mussolini used Edda Ciano ? (Mussolini's daughter). It seems they share common points but I don't know enough about fascism to say how solid is the comparison.

Comey willing to testify, but only in public: report
James Comey is willing to speak to Congress following his sudden dismissal as head of the FBI earlier this week, but he wants the testimony to be public, according to a new report.
Comey declined an invitation to speak to the Senate Intelligence Committee in a closed door session next week. However, The New York Times reports that Comey is willing to speak if it's a public hearing.
Comey was the face of the FBI throughout the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election and alleged coordination with President Trump's campaign. He was fired by Trump on Tuesday in a surprise move that sparked criticism and confusion throughout Washington.
“He was not doing a good job,” Trump said Wednesday when asked why he fired Comey. “Very simply, he was not doing a good job.”
If he testifies, Comey is likely to face questions from the committee about both the Russia probe and the timing of his unexpected removal from the office.
-
He must have some pretty damning things to say if that's his caveat. "Only in public."
IE-if this is in private its going to be buried.

Can someone tell me how many Republican judges there was in the Supreme Court during the Watergate ? I've tried internet but I find nothing about that.
So that we see if the impeachment thing is even possible or not.
-
The Supreme Court is irrelevant to an impeachment (I think it's been dominated by conservatives since the early '70s though). Democrats were in the majority in both chambers of congress during Watergate.

The Supreme Court isn't really involved. The Chief Justice serves as the presiding judge, but the jury is the Senate and a third-tier vote is required to convict.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, Nixon resigned before he was impeached.
-
Oh okay then, this is just fantasy.
What had the Supreme Court done back then though ? Didn't they lead the investigation or something ?

Supreme Court ruled against Nixon in United States v. Nixon and forced him to give up the tapes and other materials requested under subpoena.

I'm scared that nothing will come of this.
But I will be delighted if the point comes soon where I no longer have think of even having to utter the words "President Trump" ever again.
