If anyone's interested, here's an audio recording of Burr's response to the alleged Comey memo(s).
Unbelievable how hard these Republican legislators are working to protect Trump. Sickening.
Just to be clear, this is the chair of the senate intelligence committee encouraging the illegal leak of FBI documents rather than asking for them through the proper channels with respect to the investigation into Russian meddling. Something completely within his power and authority.
And yet the Republicans say they are "tired of these anonymous sources" and that the leakers, whistle blowers, and conscientious objectors are the real problem. Hypocrisy abounds with these assholes.
If Trump is brought down, he'll do all he'll can to bring as much people with him. I guess it's sort of a candy-ass self-preservation.

Lol at Mitch "I am a Turtle" McConnel trying to recommend Merrick Garland as a potential replacement for FBI director and Garland not being intrested.

At this point its less standard greedy hypocrisy/powermad evil, and more once this comes tumbling down its taking a loooot of them with it. To prison most likely.
It may not be till after midterms, or help us, 2020, but they are so tied to the mess now they have no choice.

A beautiful fantasy, and one that I would love to see happen in reality, but actual prison sentences for republican congressmen aside from maybe one or two small-fry scapegoats sounds like a pipe dream, unfortunately.

Full blown treason and conspiracy to cover up said treason are pretty big. Especially if they had that info a year ago.
Even if Trump was originally 100% innocent on the Russia thing before this all started, the obstructions and cover ups and orders he's done since have been pretty criminal.
-
It ll seems pretty damning and it's definitely criminal, but we have to count on Congress, which is 100% Republican-run, to start the impeachment process…....
I'm sorry, but witth how complicit they have been, I'm at the point where I think Trump could actually shoot someone in the middle of times square, then cut his heart out and begin eating it right there and yet the Republican establishment will still try to defend not impeaching him because they don't want their party's guy to get impeached. Not to mention they don't wanna piss off Trump's hardcore fanbase and lose their votes.
-
Yeah. They're unlikely to act until and unless their own survival depends on it or the choice is taken out of their hands by midterms
-
If somehow he ends up being impeached. Is Mike Pence gonna be the next president or is there a slight chance for new elections since he'd be impeached for his campaign with Putin ? Assuming that there is such genuine connections.

Barring Mike Pence also getting impeached or simply refusing, yes he'd be president.

So what if the intelligence belonged to Israel in the first place since it was stuff about ISIS terror plan ? This scandal just turned into a "omg what are the Israelis gonna think ?" scandal.Erdogan's thugs beat up Kurds in D.C.:
Damn, even the goons of the embassy are blatantly going crazy. I remember 2013 when they were doing this more softly

http://thehill.com/homenews/house/333803-first-republican-raises-impeachment-for-trump
Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) on Wednesday said reports that President Trump pressed ousted FBI Director James Comey to end an investigation would merit impeachment if true, becoming the first Republican lawmaker to broach the idea.
New from https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/2017/05/17/Day-118/ (links go to their Twitter posts for convenience on my part)
1/ Jason Chaffetz asked the FBI to turn all documents it has on Trump and Comey’s conversations.
2/ Republicans and Democrats want Comey to testify before Congress.
3/ Democrats will try to force a vote on establishing an independent probe of Russian interference.
4/ Paul Ryan tries to contain the political fallout.
https://t.co/KfeKl3OxKH (I find the photo of Sad Clown Ryan here kinda amusing)
5/ McCain compares Comey memo about his meeting with Trump to Watergate.
6/ Putin offers to provide Congress with the transcript to prove Trump didn’t pass Russia secrets.
7/ Adam Schiff: “Last thing” Trump needs “is Putin vouching for him.”
8/ Trump provided Russia with secrets so sensitive that news organizations are being asked not to report it.

Nah, Sid is way too expressive while Miller clearly lacks a beating heart.
Another good option is Evil Pee Wee Herman.

And can someone give Erdogan's chauffeur bad directions to the next diplomatic meeting so he ends up right there with a flat tire. So, do we know what he was doing while his goons were beating up those Kurdish activists ? His bodyguards were there, so it means Erdogan was in the embassy right ? or am I missing something? and they basically thought "hey guys, let's just go downstairs and beat up these people ALL TOGETHER, LIKE A BUNCH OF FUCKING GORILLAS"

Robert Mueller has been appointed special prosecutor.
-
It seems like there's a new development in the Russia investigation. I'm not sure how this'll affect things.
Former FBI Director Mueller Appointed Special Counsel To Oversee Russia Probe

-
If the reps let that happen while Trump has yet to get anything real done, like "Trumpcare", tax cuts and economic reforms then it must be pretty serious that even they can't hide it anymore.
-
Ryan's office, by the way, denied this, but I think they've back down.
I also reading that Joe Liberman is on the list to head the FBI.

How reputable and independent is Mueller to lead this investigation?
Don't know his story.

This came up on another board. He's a former FBI director and one person stated "Mueller at least doesn't throw up any immediate red flags; he's worked in some capacity under every President since Reagan. (His background is old-guard conservative slanted.)"
It was mentioned he worked at a law firm connected with Kushner, but he's resigned to focus on this case
-

They backed down when they found out a recording of McCarthy saying it exists.

The signs seem to point to him being reputable and tough, exactly the kind of dude for the job. So this might be a delicious thing starting today.
Honestly this is much more exciting news than most of us (me included) have reacted initially.
Here it is, a special prosecutor. Sounding like a tough attack dog sunavubtich who isn't gonna be pushed aside.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2017/05/17/with-mueller-as-the-special-prosecutor-the-white-house-has-every-reason-to-panic/?utm_term=.e6187c7a8966 Only issue I keep seeing is that a process like this under a Special Prosector isn't going to be very public whatsoever. And the better it is being conducted, the less likely we are to get leaks. So our ability to keep track of the investigation won't be the hyper-modern info feed we're used to.
On the plus side I imagine the more advanced it gets, the more likely the Trump white house will leak and collapse from pressure and provide spectacle that way.tldr: this owns

Oh yeah and I just realized, if this goes as far as we all suspect it might and forces Trump to resign or something like that?
He would have _by far_the shortest presidency in history that didn't involve a president dying. -
Can't link to the stories right now but Flynn committed treason for the Turkish government and the Trump transition team (led by Pence) was aware that he was under federal investigation when they appointed him.

At this point, large swathes of the GOP have to wish they were lucky enough that he'd just drop dead; Trump just keeps sabotaging their attempts to spin things because of his colossal ego.

"Trexit? Online bettors play early end to Trump presidency" - http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-odds-idUSKCN18D2E5
The bookies are getting in on it now.
Bettors on both sides of the Atlantic are ramping up wagers in niche online markets over whether Donald Trump will serve out a full term as U.S. president in the wake of controversies surrounding the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey.
Some, such as the online political stock market PredictIt, have seen record volume during the last two days on contracts focused on whether Trump will be impeached. Others based in the United Kingdom are drawing bets on the less-specific question of whether Trump remains in office until his term expires in January 2021.
The contract on PredictIt titled "Will Donald Trump be impeached in 2017?" saw volume of more than 100,000 contracts in the last 24 hours after reports of a memo written by Comey that said Trump had asked him to end the Federal Bureau of Investigation's probe into ties between former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russia.
At one point early on Wednesday, the price of a "yes" contract on the impeachment question jumped to a record 33 cents, implying a 33 percent probability that Trump would be impeached. That compares with only 7 percent just over a week ago.
By late in the day, however, the price had slid back to 27 percent, just above where it ended late Tuesday at 24 percent.

But will the nation, the FBI, actually let him retire with that much dignity when he's got crimes? It doesn't seem like it could be a straight up repeat of Nixon where he resigns then immediately gets pardoned, not when there's such a web of criminality and treason.
Nixon, for the most part, only covered up the Watergate break in.. Trump… has done other stuff.
