Denmark was one of the first countries to fall for a populist party, but it's been governing for so long people forgot it existed I guess.
Remember when they wanted to take refugees' personal belongings as payment for facilities last year?

Eh I find it pretty hilarious that Streep calls herself an outsider when she's been in acting forever and has basically been nominated for every movie she has ever played a character in.
Also her saying that Hollywood is more diverse than football and MMA and that they aren't art.was just cringeworthy.
Everything else I had no problem with.
But football and MMA aren't art. What's so cringeworthy?
And her point was that everyone in Hollywood is an outsider. They all start somewhere else.

Well if you really want to get into semantics unless you are born into the 1 percent or have an in via nepotism everyone is an outsider at some point.
and I don't know about you but seeing a fighter work for a choke or a armbar and getting it is a piece of art to me. Then again I practice jiujutsu so I have that mindset.
Great speech.

Why are republicans so set on being vile? Ii know dems aren't perfect. But they are going out of their way to set everything up for a catastrophic failure.
"For the hundreth time, I would never say that!"
Trump just does not understand that video records exist. Or that tweets get recorded and remembered.

I feel like they think they're in the setting of 1984, where the Ministry of Truth produces lies, the Ministry of Peace perpetuates war, and the Ministry of Plenty keeps people hungry. It's the only explanation I can think of for why they (among other things) put a climate change denier as the head of the EPA and a white supremacist (or, at least, someone who is extremely racist) as the chief strategist.

Nixon when he stepped down when word of him being charged for his possible involvement in Watergate.
So yeah. Trump really, REALLY doesn't understand anything about nukes. In that he's firing the people in charge of maintaining them without any replacements lined up.
Along with the foreign diplomats he's demanded step down ont he 20th…. huge chunks of government are ust going to stop working with zero transition team. Its traditional for apointees of the previous president to step aside, yes, but generally there's time to cushion it some and you wait until an actual replacement has been lined up and trained.
This is the natural and obvious outcome of people with absolutely no idea how government works being put in charge of it.
How long before we start worrying that Trump is actively trying to harm the country's well-being?
Chuck Schumer tells Mitch the Magic Turtle to eat his own words when it comes to the procedure for cabinet position hearings.

One thing I found odd…
Marvel Entertainment billionaire Ike Perlmutter is set to become a key aide on veterans affairs ….
The Marvel money man, who is a neighbor of Trump’s in Palm Beach, is a backer of university hospitals and wants to see veterans taken care of. Perlmutter himself was a soldier in Israel’s Six-Day War back in 1967, we’re told.
…. he seems (so far) to actually fit the position unlike other Trump cabinet possibles who are the opposite of what the position should be (anti-public education as head of education ect),
But wait... we still don't know what Perlmutter thinks of Trump's views of POWs. Remember the comment of how Trump said one was not a hero since he was captured, and implied POWs were losers? "prefer those not captured" or something like that.
How long before we start worrying that Trump is actively trying to harm the country's well-being?
That would require that he actually cares one way or another about the country's well-being rather than just cynically seeing it as a way to enrich himself.

Or is that what he wants you to think? A large amount of the shit he's pulling serves no direct benefit to him, like leaving the US without diplomats and weakening our nuclear maintenance.

Spiting people and methaphorically dropping balls aren't designed to benefit the people doing it.

He understands those things very well what he doesn't understand is that saying offensive and objectively false things (which he then denies ever having said) makes people see you as an asshole and a liar. Then wonders why the evil dishonest media and the mean celebrities keep
picking on him.

It's punishing people for being appointed by somebody who mocked him; self-aggrandizement is also a form of enrichment after all.
Well looks like Tillerson is done as Trump's Secretary of State

He's probably not eliminated because all of it was technically legal. But if people make a big fucking deal about it they might be able to block his nomination.
My prediction is that all appointees will be approved.

What's your prediction on whether we'll have nuclear war in the next four to eight years? You've been soberingly accurate with your pessimism so far.
No nuclear war, but definitely a war in the Middle East.
Though if North Korea has some really bad timing, they'll finally be able to reach the west coast(al bubble) with their missiles in the next 4/8 years.

That article from Gizmodo (not a particularly credible source to begin with) doesn't cite any sources that support their claim. I'm seeing conflicting information on google, but nothing from any news outlets I recognize.
It could be a true story, but without any evidence this reeks of clickbait.
So Kelly Arnold, a Kansas elector, sent an email reply back to all those that emailed electors and tried to sway them to vote against Trump.
@Kelly:
Dear Electoral College vote inquirer,
Thank you for emailing me regarding my vote in the Electoral College as a Kansas elector. In the interest of courtesy, I am replying to all individuals who reached out to me. Many of you instructed me to vote in conflict with the people of Kansas and not vote for the certified winner of Kansas, Donald J. Trump.
On December 19th Kansas’ six electoral members cast our votes for Donald J. Trump. I was proud to cast my vote for Donald J. Trump not only because he won the state of Kansas on November 8th, but out of my desire to put America on a path to economic prosperity. After eight years of President Obama, the American people have put their faith in Donald J. Trump. It’s time to Make America Great Again.
I thank you for taking the time to participate in the political process.
MAGA,
Kelly Arnold
Kansas Elector
So basically, they just replied with a big middle finger.
So, are electors people who were appointed beforehand? Or are they picked after the vote to make sure the ones picked are likely to vote the way the state's population voted? The former seems to assume a lot of self control on the part of the electors, so the second one makes more sense to me.
I've found one page but the actual timing of choosing the electors isn't clear. http://people.howstuffworks.com/electoral-college2.htm
My prediction is that all appointees will be approved.
I expect one or two to make enough enemies (by which I mean within the Trump Administration) that they'll withdraw, but, yeah, most of them will get through. Democrats had to alter the rules just to get anybody Obama appointed in since the Republicans opposed them just on the principle of not letting him do anything; the GOP will cheerfully use that to rush unqualified people into critical positions.
Of course, just because they have a way to expedite the process doesn't mean that the GOP won't be petty assholes about the whole thing.

Different states have different standards; in some places, you don't even vote for the President but vote for their electors. Other places, they're chosen at state conventions after the primaries are held. I think some states even choose them before any elections at all are held.

Oh, that law was passed by the ruling party, trying to get some of the populist' partys sweet sweet "TOUGH ON IMMMUHGRANTS" cred.
It was ultimately not used a single time. But it sure made them LOOK tough on immigration!
And now we've got an even far-righter party whos platform is being even toughererer on immigration, but at least it looks like they're just siphoning voters from the old populist party, who've lost a ton of goodwill after revealing gross EU-parliament fund abuse, despite being the EU skeptic, isolationist party.
As for a further rightward turn, the people in arreas detached from immigrants will probably continue to be the most fearful of them, as is the case everywhere. But at least a recent poll showed 70% of all danes labeling Trump a threat to world peace, and Brexit caused a brief spike in pro-EU sentiments, so maaaaaaaaaybe theres been a bit of a wakeupcall.
Tougherer sounds pretty damn serious.
Curious question. Now that Trump is sort of pulling in his close relatives to top positions in his cabinet, is this the first time such things are occurring or has there been cases of nepotism in presidential administrations before? If such things have not occurred before is it because there were stricter laws against it or the public were vigilant enough to criticize such moves making people shy away from making such moves?
My country has been spoiled with nepotism for decades and it has caused major problems so just curious over how its handled in the US
I'm curious: What exactly is the official rationale for repealing "Obamacare"? Is there even any, beyond the fact that Obama made it? What is the net gain? What is the policy on healthcare going forward, beyond "we'll make something EVEN BETTER!"?
@Daz:
the fact that Obama made it?
Bingo!
What is the net gain?
For Republicans? Nothing except smug satisfaction!
@Daz:
What is the policy on healthcare going forward, beyond "we'll make something EVEN BETTER!"?
The policy will be "let the poors and blacks die" with the cynical and probably true assumption that the aftershocks won't be felt until 2021 and it's a Democrat president's problem now.
Jeff Sessions' confirmation hearing is about to start. Cory Booker and John Lewis will testify against him.

This is sort of what i was thinking. From where i'm sitting it seems like that since the Danes have been living in some sort of mutually dependant symbiosis with their dumbasses, they aren't really up to doing any crazy flip the table over moves, since their dumbass party is firmly in the establishment and quite content to just push symbolic (but harsh sounding) proposals that will never really be enforced. Not to underrepresent the shitiness they surely could be capable of, but in contrast with Sweden who has a cancerous growth of people who are about three steps short of calling for a violent revolution, the Danish dumb seems alot more managable.

Watching it on facebook live now (courtesy of The Hill) and they keep cutting the sound whenever a protester starts shouting something from the back of the room. Then they're removed from the room, the sound returns, and Lindsay Graham cackles and makes a snide remark about freedom of speech including "the respect to listen."
Welcome to facism!
Wow, just wow. The guy is happy. This is not ignorance, this is faaaaaaaar beyond. And there are probably a lot of people of his kind. Wow. I think, it was Robby who said that being named "Obamacare" was the problem, and sincerely, I wouldn't have thought, he was this right. Wow.
