Let's say this: you've been reading this awesome manga, the characters, plot and art style are all great and you're really enjoying it.
Then you get a brainwave you think "If this manga became a anime it would be so awesome!" You think about how great it would be to see your beloved characters moving, in colour and with voices. But then the day comes when the anime comes out and it's just awful. It's censored, it's badly paced, the voices are annoying and the scenes you enjoyed the most have translated terribly. Worst of all your beloved plot has been altered shamelessly and before you know it the manga and anime look nothing alike.
So have any of you had an experience like this? If so share it
Even if it's a bad anime adaptation of any sort, for example games. For me the Devil May Cry and Disgaea anime's come to mind :getlost:
For me it was when I was reading Fairy Tail years ago as a young lad, I know now it's fallen from grace but back then I was really enjoying it. In the first 100 chapters I loved everything about it: how it was kinda like One Piece (but not as good) but with wizards, the idea of good guilds and bad guilds intrigued me, I liked how no character was completely useless (at this point Lucy was still a great character), I liked how Mystogan (Mist Gun in the translation I was reading) was so mysterious and the Guild Master Makarov was such a badass. Also the Luxus arc was something really special imo especially how after trying so hard to take over Fairy Tail he couldn't cast the Fairy Law magic. At this point Fairy Tail was bursting with potential, IMO I thought that if it continued how it was it could've ended up rivalling One Piece.
Then when the anime adaptation was announced I was hyped as hell, I literally couldn't wait. But then it came out and essentially shit on the manga that I loved. Natsu's fire effects looked cheap and terrible, magic circles came out of nowhere, the fight scenes looked cheap and punches wouldn't connect, the blood was censored (making scenes like Gray grabbing Erza's sword silly) and everyone was given really long animations before they used their magic that was recycled every episode. The worst example was erza, the whole point of her magic was that she could swap armours really quickly but in the anime they gave her a freakin' Sailor Moon transformation that lasted a good minute.
Admittedly some of the things I hated about the anime were removed in time but overall the Fairy Tail anime still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The only note worthy thing to come out of it was it's first opening which captured the theme of Fairy Tail perfectly.
Or have you had an experience where the anime adaptation was so good that you couldn't believe it?
For the best anima adaptation I've seen how could I pick anything other than Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. From beginning to end the animation was great, the fight scenes were awesome and unlike in predecessor it followed the manga like it was the Bible. Which really helped because the manga was superb.
Of course another shout out to the Hunter X Hunter 2011 adaptation, the animation is gorgeous, due to it having such a huge gap from the manga the filler is minimal and the fightscenes are amazing when they happen. It truly is the best anime I'm watching right now.
