But doesn anyone find it surprising that Brook is still standing against BIG MOM???? She's a friggin yonkou for gods sake!!
Chapter 851: Tab End
-
-
Brook calling Big Mom a young lady is my favorite part of the chapter. It seems things are about to come a heads. I just hate that this arc didn't give the other half of the crew time to shine.
My 2017 wish is that the kaido arc allows everyone a 1v1 battle to showcase their strengths.
-
Great. I think this will lead to Sanji making decision to return to crew. Saving everyone by sacrificing himself is no longer option to him, so he have to choose between Strawhats and Zeff. Seems like an easy choice to me. However, that makes me wonder, how will this lead to the actual wedding happening and opening of tamatebako box? Is Sanji going to wait until the wedding before making a move?

A fantastic way to end 2016. :)
Great chapter and finally: Jinbei! -

Great chapter and finally: Jinbei!Actually it is the start of 2017

Man, Sanji is really hurting right now. As I'm typing this, I'm crying right now for him. I guess I needed a chapter for confirmation, but yeah, Pudding 100% played Sanji like a fiddle and she has DF powers that can edit or erase a person's memories and felt pretty good doing both. But the deeper the hole, the more gratifying it is to escape it. Sanji's redemption will be him climbing out of his deep hole and coming out even better than ever.
To see the Soul King vs. Soul Queen fight, I must be dreaming, even though souls don't sleep. Soul Joke!
My god… it's the blue goomba, Jinbei! Coming in to break Luffy and Nami outta jail! It's almost like a reverse Impel Down in a way. It looks like he didn't lose an arm, leg or eye, so in a way the newspaper was true. Hopefully now we get to find out exactly what happened in his 15-20 chapter absence. I'd exclaim a loud yabba dabba do, but Romance probably copyrighted it.:ninja:
And I'm guessing there's a break next week, but I'm okay with that since Jinbei's back.

@Count:
The OP mistook the translator's name as the chapter title. It's supposed to be Moist Cigarette.
Hahah, I see!
When I came on here and saw a new chapter I was hoping Sengoku's goat made a comeback!"Moist Cigarette" sounds gross though, lol.
And the MS title "Tab End" doesn't sound OP like at all.
Sure hope Viz goes with "Wet".. -
Right time to breakdown, breakdown!
Sorry still got Diamond is Unbreakable on the brain.
Jump Cover:
Cock-A Doodle Doo. LOL. But yeah Happy Year of the RoosterChapter Cover:
Pretty standard, but I love the outfits. Chalk up another one for instant wallpaper.Pudding Gloating:
Again this seems pretty suspect to me. Why would she go out of her way to capture Reiju just to gloat. Even pointing out how they'll kill the Vinsmokes. I understand she has a memory erasing fruit but even then seems a bit much. Even moreso with her going on and on how stupid Sanji is and what not (funny as those expressions are). Yeah sorry, not fully convinced she really evil here. Not just yet anyway.Sanji Evasdropping:
Just…that face. That's a face of heartbreak my friends. And can't even smoke to dull the pain either. Let's face it, if this isn't Sanji's lowest point, I don't know what is.Brook vs Big Mom:
Aww I was kinda hoping there would be more of a chase here and that they would keep up the misunderstanding with wanting the treasure box. But points for Brooke basically telling her to "piss off". Honestly hope he can get out unscathed here.Chopper's Continuing Mirror World Adventure:
Well that's utterly convenient and yet confusing. Whatever gives these guys an advantage I suppose.Jinbie to the Rescue:
I said it before in the spoiler and I'll say it here too: FINALLY! Yeah it's predictable due to seeing him earlier but I loved the execution of it, even a bit of levity with the torture threat and Jinbe asking if they want to be rescued. Great top off.Overall:
Really didn't need half of the issue with Pudding gloating, we get it, she's a bitch...supposedly. Again, a lot of her actions are rather odd just for the sake of showing that she's evil. But we'll see come the wedding. Seems I got my wish on wanting progress on Brook last week so there's that. Chopper and Carrot are about to get ready for their deus ex machina, Jinbei's back in the story and Luffy and Nami are FINALLY out of that prison. Feels alot like a set up chapter for the craziness that's about to be wrought on the castle. But we're getting there step by step. So not bad at all.Prediction:
Not much to really on here. I'm guessing either Luffy or Chopper will save Brooke or heck Jinbie and Luffy will split up to save both him and Pedro. Sanji's position is a little harder to grasp here, again a rock and a hard place. Either go through with wedding and be killed or don't and likely be killed. Maybe he'll sense something within the conversation and just play along. Or we could get another Arlong Park/Enies Lobby moment where he runs into his friends and tries to act like everything okay but ultimately asks for their help. I'm genuinely curious if Judge was prepared for Big Mom's treachery outside of that whole "hostage" plan he was going with. Honestly it'll be funny of Sanji did abandon the whole plan and both groups point their fingers at each other and try to get him back just to proceed with their back-stabbing. Either way, I say were out of the Villain Advantage moments and hope is on the horizon. To the New Year! -

My 2017 wish is that the kaido arc allows everyone a 1v1 battle to showcase their strengths.Just to piggy back off this part of your post , I think this whole splitting the crew into two will really be the new status quo going forward. I mean he's already done this on Dressrosa and similar things in past arcs but most of the time they were in different places on the same island or the classic "you go on ahead Luffy, the crew will catch up shortly".
But the reason why it's essential now is because between balancing 9 protagonists (if we're already counting Jinbe, 10) and giving the side characters time for exposition , plus villains, henchmen etc. to call these arcs crowded is an understatement. Plus these incidents themselves have escalated to the point where the crew literally need to be two places at once to complete a single objective, which might not make much sense in writing but I hope people catch the drift of what I mean.
I personally think it's better this way, because it gives characters like Chopper, Brook and even Sanji time to shine, where as when they go up against Kaidou in Wano , I suspect Zoro, Ussop and Franky may get a bulk of the focus. Oda has balanced his development of these characters brilliantly imo.
-
@Kaido:
I don't recall any that made sense/fit with Sanji's character
Let's face it, guys. I and others are not saying that Sanji is acting perfectly here. But this is what you get when you pluck his character and put it in a situation like this. Sanji is the kind of person who, when the lives of his friends are in his hands, will do his damned best to keep his friends safe even if it means sacrificing himself. Brook said that in this very chapter! Now, this may have caused him to succumb to his fate when there may have been other options, but honestly I can't see him doing anything like that that wouldn't be wildly out of character.
Plus, these complaints are infected with an extreme lack of patience. I mean, this method of storytelling isn't very common in One Piece. Take Dressrosa, for example, where the Straw Hats could solve all their problems just by going on the offensive, even when Doflamingo had hostages. But the Big Mom Pirates know how to use a hostage crisis effectively and have the power and influence to do so. It's not like Sanji is a "Dumbass in Distress" where there are obvious ways out of his captivity and he's just ignoring them or how he got in this situation in the first place was stupid. His character is being played with to give him a no-win situation . And now here we have a rather uncommon trope in One Piece: all is lost. This isn't just some part during the final battle when a hero is down and it seems like they won't be able to beat the villain: the hero is so overwhelmed in the villain's scope that they can't even move against it. Right now, Sanji is in this. But, news flash, this isn't the end of the arc. Sanji will grow into the role he needs to overcome this, and will cast off these demons. But so many people seem to be complaining that he's not doing this _now_, which just isn't how storytelling works at all.
I totally agree. And I'm really intrigued how it will turn out. About Sanji, I have no doubt that the payoff will be amazing, but as you said we're still in the phase of planting.
-
- I would expect that if Sanji goes and tell the Vinsmokes about Big Mom's plan, they would answer: "So what you rat? We were planning to do the same thing, so just keep your act up, and do not get in our way." Again, a bit sad that the Vinsmokes were introduced like assassins, but it seems that won't be touched upon. Unless the official translation was warmongers shrug
-Pudding is such a refreshing character, I like it. I still believe that all the pieces were set properly for her to be evil. Sanji's despair has been done perfectly. So well that everyone is hating it! Oda has made you feel that Sanji is useless and not up to his standards. And that was the point, now that his false ray of hope has vanished, he will finally have room to think about his situation, when he has nothing to lose. Maybe he would choose to let everyone die instead of Zeff, but considering what Brooke said this week, I doubt it. When both of his actions are met with him losing, he will have to break free from the shackles he bares.
-
The spread with Big Mom and her two homies was incredible. The latter look so menacing, as much as Brooke's soul ability may counter Mama's, Prometheus counters the Soul King's ice attribute. As many mentioned, the fact that he is still standing is by far better than him having a 1 vs 1. It is just so nice to see Brooke understanding Sanji so much, even though they haven't been together for so long. What kind of fool would ever plan to die? I want to see what the official translation has in store for us.
-
I expect Carrot to draw a decent Sanji, but considering he has 4 twin siblings, that could lead the duo to a confrontation pretty soon. Although, I am more inclined with them showing up in front of Reiju or Sanji.
-
Pudding ability fits well with her character. I just blame my lack of imagination to think how she would use it on a fight.
-
A couple of weeks back I was saying that the first meal Sanji HAD to make was for Luffy. Funny how, with some twists here and there Sanji ended up unconsciously cooking for him and the crew. Pudding was not the appropriate recipient of such treat and now Sanji left the bouquet but took the food. If he goes to Luffy then, yay win for me.
-
Opera has some extreme methods of torture, an arrow every 5 seconds, damn. Talk about impatient, I could imagine him after pouring his cream and causing internal burning. Mama's family/crew are just psychos. Love how Nami had to be told to not be so difficult.
-
I had to write this post a couple of times, there was something weird with my keyboard and it was just typing Jimbe Jimbe Jimbe Jimbe Jimbe Jimbe, but now that I think about it, that would have made this post ten times better. JIMBEEEEEEEEE!

Nope, Kaido inadvertently totally got corrupted by the mighty pwngoat who started to reveal his true role by this 'subtle' foreshadowing.
-
Still no box yet for Pudding, whats keeping it from being reveled.
Has to be more to her right?
-
After such a chapter, we can only wait to see Pudding face when she will her plan miserabilly failing.
Now Luffy and Nami are free so it is only Brook who needs to escape Big Mum somehow and the pendulum will change direction. -

don't have a problem with the format per se, and I might be ahead of myself but I feel like Dressrosa gave Zoro moments where he cut something the size of a mountain apart. I hope we get moments like those for this half of the crew.

Wut? I know nothing about
the final OP villainwhy this chapter was named like that -
Poor Sanji. This almost broke my heart. Oda spent so long breaking Sanji down, I think he finally hit rock bottom. No doubt in my mind by the end of this arc Sanji and going forward we'll see a new, improved Sanji. Not a completely different person but just like Ennis Lobby "changed" Robin, this arch will change Sanji.
.What kind of change do you expect ? Him being not so nice anymore ?
-
What kind of change do you expect ? Him being not so nice anymore ?
He will start making self deprecating jokes at his own dispense.
Kinda how like Robin just makes morbid jokes now.
-
It seems like a hard thing to do. The wedding is approaching, and he's supposed to be in his castle until then. How could he disappear to warn his family? The risks are too high; he might end up getting caught. Besides, would his family even listen to what he has to say? They don't trust him a single bit, just like he doesn't trust them. They may see his warning as a way for him to sabotage the wedding.
Rather, I think he'll act during the ceremony. Pudding believes he wants to marry her, and that he won't see anything coming. He can take advantage from that.
I also think he will act during ceremony but he also got some arrows in his arc. Judge is not stupid I don't think he'll completely it the soldier stray bullet story of reiju and sanji is the only one knowing what happened.
-
Why would she ever do that?
Well it's a way to kill him mentally. You erase all his life and he can become a vegetable like with alzeimer. But the thing here is that Sanji became "more human" than his brothers because of the memories of his mother. If you see "Hell Memory" is a powerful attack based on his hell in Okama Island and if Sanji can only "remember" bad moments i can only imagine a BEAST fighting (a powerful warrior for this arc). That's why maybe Pudding is going to erase everything good inside him because she's evil but this is going to create a monster.
-
Has anyone else realized… Kaido wants to die... but all this time... Big Mom has an app for that
-
Still no box yet for Pudding, whats keeping it from being reveled.

At least we got the second intro for nitro lol
-
-
What kind of change do you expect ? Him being not so nice anymore ?
Well, I guess like Robin, we'll see a more honest Sanji. A Sanji more truth to himself with the weight of his past finally lifted. A person not running away but truly moving forward with the people he cares about.
-

Kaido can't afford to download it.
-
I knew oda will redeem the vinsmokes, and now sanji will save their life, because they still have the same blood and they will be grateful.
If now vinsmokes won't trust sanji if he tells them BM's plan, thinking he just wants to escape the wedding, he can send them anonym note.
Does sanji know about pudding's power or he left before pudding took reiju's memory film away?
-
The Sern face of Reiju is so beautiful despite the bullet wounds and all the degrading talk.
-

But aprt from this arc, Sanji was never running away
-

People wanted Sanji to be no holds barred at the start of the arc? But that would mean they'd want all of his family and friends dead and his hands blown off. Besides, I enjoy to see the protagonist(s) struggle, sweat and bleed a bit before overcoming the odds, while staying in character, flaws and all. Makes for an entertaining story.

Oh god please now.
Reiju OK and she should take over the kingdom. Judge and the brothers are scum as worse as Pudding and Big Mom
-
Yeah I don't see what is redeemable about them, just because Big Mom and Pudding are assholes it doesn't make the others stop being assholes, they all deserve a beating.
-
I mean there based of Shocker from Kamen Raider, who are based on Nazis and clearly uses and take inspiration from Nazi iconography and troupes and yet people want these guys to be good/redeemed?
-
What's Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment and Rowling's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban doing in Big Mom's Prisoner library?
!
Oda sure it's given some foreshadowing…Brook made the chapter and he will shine mostly on 852.
And... the spoiler made anything remarkable to share, there's nothing much to comment but Memo ability wouldn't work other species beside humans... Gyojin, Minks and Chopper are safe xd -
Yeah I don't see what is redeemable about them, just because Big Mom and Pudding are assholes it doesn't make the others stop being assholes, they all deserve a beating.
They will get their beating, judge could even die, but their are still his family.

Zeff and the SHs are his family

Zeff and the SHs are his family
Yeah why would Sanji have feelings for his blood, blood doesn't make you family look at Nami, Franky, Robin and hell all the strawhats are a family.
He was perfectly fine never seeing Reiju or his family for the rest of his days/never dealing with them.
I mean strawhats had no problem selling out evil people like Caesar, they were ready to throw him under the bus.

Oda sure it's given some foreshadowing…Wonder if its hinting at anything.
What could it possibly be?
-
I've decided to revoke my previously held thought (produced by last chapter) (I'm fickle, I know) that Pudding may become a Straw hat, but not for the reason you may think. Rather than her increasingly malicious behavior turning me off, it's the addition of the memory fruit to her character that has made her unworthy of the Straw hat mantle.
Whereas Luffy's Gomu Gomu, Chopper's Hito Hito, Robin's Hana Hana, and Brook's Yomi Yomi primarily exist to service the character, Pudding's Memo Memo seems to exist only to service the plot. Luffy's rubber powers help establish Luffy's identity as the goofy, unseeming power house. Chopper's human powers are at the crux of Chopper's character and development. Robin's sprouting powers give weight to her persona as a menacing assassin. And Brook's soul powers result in Brook's aesthetic and nutty behavior. Pudding's power are different. They aren't something core to the way we, the audience, view her character. Rather, they seem tacked on so the plot can move forward, rather than something to help flesh out her character.
Yes, one could make the argument that Pudding's ability to alter and erase memories is quite in tune with her manipulative and deceitful character, but when these powers are introduced, we already know Pudding is a manipulative actor. The power's themselves are not needed to further expand upon this fact about her. Instead, they are only there to make sure Reiju stays quiet. My point is, unlike all the Strawhats with devil fruit powers, Pudding's power was not made for her as a character but for her as plot device and as a result, it becomes very clear that Pudding, her character (while important), and her power are too second thought for her to be a main character.

Don't put spoilers in your opening post, especially final page spoilers.
Yeah I was Actually Mad. The one time I didn't read the spoilers after months, it's right there in the first post.

Yep, Franky even almost murdered Caribou on the way to Fishman Island.
After a quick defeat, he was about to throw him out of the bubble into the watery depths with no hesitation. -

Even more annoying is that he hasn't removed it despite editing the OP multiple times to add links.

@Bartholemew:
The only minor thing I dislike about the latest chapters is that if Pudding really is evil - and I don't really doubt it now - why telling Reiju at all? Sure, she has her fruit, but what if someone else listens like exactly what happened here? That feels like the usual smug villain overconfidence.

Decent chapter. That shot with Brook against BM was godly. Anyway, I know people have asked this across other chapter threads, but why the f*** is Luffy still missing a tooth? It's starting to annoy the piss out of me.

It'll be healed as soon as he eats Sanji's food. Symbolism and all that.
