Question, what's a spook?
Slang term for spy.
-
@Monkey:
You're both missing what's happening. Congress isn't the force behind this drudging up of dirty laundry. They are not in control of the spillage or narrative thank god, they're just reacting to it like you and I are.
Its the spooks who are doing this. Try stopping that leak.
As long as Republicans weren't actually aware of close Russian ties (which seems to be the case, if the Pence story is to be believed), they won't be hurt by any leaks and they will just say this witch hunt is a pathetic attempt by democrats to tarnish the president, while Trump will say the intelligence agencies are spreading fake news and the base will eat it up because they DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANY OF THIS.

I'm referring to the focus being made on congress in the first place, I don't know why the idea that congressional Republicans would be implicated in this even came up since its totally out of the blue. This scandal doesn't involve the Legislative branch at all.

You're severely underestimating the heft of what's being moved around and by whom. You're talking like this is the sad vigil of the lonely media with half a scoop and a secret single source destined to be ignored, as opposed to it being from CIA and NSA people and even elements of the army according to some sources.
You also seem to be under the impression that the Trump administration is a teflon thing that can just no problem deal with a scandal potentially worse than Watergate, rather than the really chaotic thin skinned historically unpopular trainwreck that it is.
Maybe from over there it looks like the US is being systematically torn up by Emperor Palpatine, but its really more like we're being trampled by a drooling dumbass Godzilla with its tail on fire and its head stuck in a bee hive. -
Guess some of it depends on how serious you think this is.

I'm putting the focus on congress since they're the ones allowing this to happen. They're the ones refusing to launch any investigations and framed it as a liberal witch hunt.

No, I am just looking at a country that is too polarized for the checks and balances to all function properly. I'd have a little more faith in this leading to anything if Paul Ryan hadn't said today he is not interested in investigating this or if Jason Chaffetz hadn't said the issue was done when Flynn left or if Rand Paul hadn't said it's dumb for a Republican to investigate a Republican.
Check that Gallup poll from last week that showed Republicans overwhelmingly believe Trump over intelligence agencies and the press. There's going to be more and more proof coming out that he committed treason and it'll still be dismissed by the GOP base. And if the GOP base doesn't care, why should the people they've elected? Trump isn't made of teflon, but the GOP is making damn sure that it at least feels like he is.
Maybe from over there it looks like the US is being systematically torn up by Emperor Palpatine, but its really more like we're being trampled by a drooling dumbass Godzilla with its tail on fire and its head stuck in a bee hive.
Nope over here his governing has been described as amateurish, clownesque and incompetent and there's been Watergate references aplenty. But it's also constantly being pointed out that the people who voted for him are more than pleased so far.

I can now only hope that the foundation of the federal government will be shaken to it's core. In fact we need to add to the constitution that blocks mentally ill, politically inexperienced person from running for any government office including the president. May this Flynn departure really kick up the point that the Republicans and Democrats starts working togather and be rebooted. Meanwhile America needs to realize that having just 2 parties does not work, we need a third party that is at the center. I am looking forward for a big change soon.

That amendment idea has way too much double edged sword potential, for my taste. Inexperienced is one thing, but who defines mentally ill?

Trump's attitude provides a good example of them. I mean he's a narcissistic don't you see? Unless if there's any better way to discipline a person like him
-
Republicans would make the definition of "mentally ill" be "is black/hispanic/a woman".

That's why I said about the Republicans getting a reboot and drop these racist/sexist ideals.

Or just any Democrat really.

Until the Republican Party finally breaks down, third parties will achieve nothing on the national scene but undermining every social accomplishment made over the past century. That's what happened in 2000 and last November.
-
Whenever a major political party has a irreversible meltdown in this country, it's never a third party that ascends to its place. It's always the party's former higher-ups reorganizing into something less of a shitshow. See: Whigs -> Republicans.

But her eeemaaaaaaaaails

Apparently one of the potential replacements for Flynn is David Petraeus.
If he is indeed selected, Petraeus would have seventy-two hours to notify his probation officer of his change in employment since he still has several months remaining of probation for LEAKING CLASSIFIED INFORMATION IN EXCHANGE FOR SEXUAL FAVORS.
-
It's not like that was actually proven or he confessed to it or anything.
-
@Cyan:
Republicans would make the definition of "mentally ill" be "is black/hispanic/a woman".
That would definitely have the potential to boomerang back on them the next time a law abiding gun owner murders or injures a bunch of people in public..

Don't forget "is gay, lesbian, transgender, or non-binary in any way".

A “West Wing confidant,” meanwhile, tells Allen that it looks like “nobody is in charge” at the White House at the moment, and that the scandal surrounding fired National Security Adviser Michael Flynn shows the Trump administration is either “reckless” or simply has “total incompetence.”
Gasp
NO WAY
@White:
This is getting pretty ugly

Pretty sure he'd hop a jet straight to Putin's bedroom rather than "die in jail," but wow. That's a hopeful sentiment.

Yay now the mentally disturbed can protect themselves and aid us in preventing mass shootings.

Trump said at a presser that he's fine with a one-state solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

That source gives them too much credit by presenting it as an "either or" situation.
-
-
Sweet karma, catch him in the ass.
-
Word is that Puzder is planning to withdraw his nomination for Secretary of Labor.
-
Hey, I might go to Hardy's after this.
Trump's Labor Secretary pick Andy Puzder is expected to withdraw, official tells NBC News
Should I be so happy with this? My county is in shambles and I'm just glad that things are difficult for Trump. Hopefully this whole investigation comes to a conclusion before Trump ruins the Israel situation.
Or before he deports too many people, especially this poor Dreamer…
Mexican ‘DREAMer’ nabbed in immigrant crackdown
I feel like we're on a timer to get Trump impeached now, and while the result will probably suck (assuming we get stuck with Mike Pence, the ex-governor that Indiana is happy to be rid off) at the very least we can avoid some of the damage.
-
And it's official: another one bites the dust.

After staring into the abyss, Puzder decides not to chain his leg to the political Hindenburg.

@Rogues':

This wasn't his choice. He was forced to because he wouldn't have gotten the 50 required votes and because he was "very tired of the abuse" from people who opposed him.

How long before the Libya shills take issue with this?
Checking some first reactions, they're dissappointed that Trump is "shilling to neocons", but are happy that they'll at least go kill ISIS instead of supporting them like Obama/Hillary.

Among other things, you have to remember that Trump's actual attempt at making up with the CIA was this.
Long story short, there is a wall in the CIA headquarters where they have a bunch of stars engraved into it. Each one standing for a CIA person who died in the line of duty. This is like a holy site for them.
And this is what Trump did in front of it, giving a mini speech to CIA people.Nor did the President refer to any of the dozens of others for whom stars are etched on the hallowed C.I.A. wall of honor. It was like going to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and not mentioning those who died in the Second World War.
Trump’s unscripted remarks were, instead, largely about himself,–- Update From New Post Merge ---

The section of Hillary critics that think that U.S. intervening and helping to remove Gaddafi was a bad thing.

Never a moment when he can't go around without shamelessly promoting himself.

I hate to say it but they do have ideological consistency here. Scummy as it is.
They're all super keen on Middle Eastern dictatorships, partly because they're secret authoritarians, partly because they believe Muslims are savage apes who can't handle democracy without terrorism (as was the opinion of the vanished turd poster Bilbo Baggins).
Were Trump to send troops in to fight Assad they would become hypocrites, but the target being ISIS makes it different.Unless we're talking the scores of mega idiots who thought Trump would be a smooth talking isolationist UNLIKE WAR MONGER HILLARY. In which case, lol yes.

Yep….aggravatingly naive as they are.
