Kind of fucked up. The electors should abide by the wills of the people they represent.
-
^ Much in the same way elected officials should abide by the will of the people (i.e. the non racist, sexist, poorly educated, & stubborn section of the public) they represent but don't generally do?
-
WA Electoral college presidential results: 8 votes Hillary Clinton, 3 votes Colin Powell, 1 "Faith Spotted Eagle"
-
The will of the 63 million people that voted for Trump or the will of the 66 million that voted for Hillary?
-
Or the will of the 120 million people (and children) who didn't bother to vote at all because the media assured them it was a sure thing and that they were "equally bad"?
-
Ehhhh I've got no sympathy for them (children get a pass, I guess) unless they were actively disenfranchised by Republican fuckery. Not voting is barely a step above voting badly.
-
When you're told over and over that they're equally bad, or that you're in a state where your vote doesn't count (like Texas)…. it can have an effect.
-

What's the greater sin, not participating in voting at all, or actively voting third party despite knowing that your candidate doesn't have a chance of winning, and will sap away votes from a main party?
-

I have contempt for both those people, but it's two different flavors of contempt. One fucks us over out of laziness/apathy/little-to-no-thought, the other does it out of pie-in-the-sky ideological purity at the expense of real life consequences.

Oh, I bet it does. There's no excuse for bad polling and bad "SAME THING BOTH SIDES" journalism. Those people are gonna burn, for sure.
It never doesn't count though. In normal times, not winning the popular vote or winning by a very small margin matters. That's when we usually use (or don't use) the word "mandate," and it actually matters for how the incoming president is perceived, and how successful his or her pet interests will be. Trump has a decisive non-mandate, though sadly I don't think he nor his people give a shit that the majority of voters vehemently oppose everything he seeks to (un)do.
We can only say that Hillary got 2.8m more votes because a bunch of good folks in Texas and other shitheel states went out and did their part. They should be proud.
-
Well, if you had a preferred candidate and didn't vote for anyone anyway, it's kinda your own fault really.
-
Kind of fucked up. The electors should abide by the wills of the people they represent.
Almost like its a shit system left over from aristocratic times.

Sorry. I live in a heavily red state, so I figured with it inevitably going red and the idea that Hillary had it in the bag, it didn't really matter whether I went out to vote or not.

When it comes to corruption, Deadbeat Donnie's going to make Putin look like an amateur.
-
And to think, Richard Nixon resigned rather than deal with being officially accused of corruption.

Today, we learn that it is more important to save a few bucks than to get your kids arm fixed. Besides, it builds character.

He did that with the foreknowledge that he would have been pardoned, whereas as if he stayed on, he would have impeached and then removed from office, which probably would have had other criminal charges attached. There's nothing honorable about what Tricky Dicky did, he was a skunk, and like any skunk, he did it to save his neck.
Of course, Trump is going to make him look like chump when it comes to corruption.
-
So, I've been reading a lot of bad news lately. I'm in varying degrees of freakout about Trump's incoming term. But, this gave me a much needed laugh. Hopefully more are to come…
Ted Nugent and Kid Rock basically the only musicians willing to play Trump’s inauguration

Yes, that's exactly my point.
Nixon quit when he knew the illegal stuff was going to catch up to him. Trump is just starting and is flaunting in it.

We've been snarking over this the last 4 weeks or so. And yes it's still laughable and well deserved for a guy with a 40% favorability rating going into his Inauguration next month.
And of course Trump can't not go another day without bullshiting and picking fights this time with Bill Clinton.

Bill Maher making some jokes and stuff:

I'm fine with just calling him Trump. Or Dingus. Racists constantly just referred to President Obama without the president constantly. Trump isn't anything like former president W Bush. So I'm fine with not giving him time if day. He had shit shows now he'll have a shit presidency.

I
Trump isn't anything like former president W Bush. Not now anyway but give him some time and those approval numbers will be just as low as his if not lower.

A graph showing the Economic Anxiety of Trump voters:
Maybe it's my lack of understanding how graphs work, but both sections of Clinton voters are 57%. 57 + 57 = 114%, and I'm confused how that works.

It's not an either/or thing. There were two questions on the survey, and each participant answered both.
In the example you mentioned, 57% of Clinton voters believe black people get less than they deserve, and 57% also believe that average Americans get less than they deserve. Of course, it very likely isn't the same 57%. It'd be a venn-diagram type situation with some overlap, by necessity. -
You know how in the Lion King, Scar conspired with the Hyenas to get rid of the old leader?
And like three seconds after the previous leader was gone and Scar took over, that's the moment Scar let the Hyenas in to run things to the ground within just a couple years?
And it was later revealed that it was the Hyenas that got him there in the first place?
This is sort of like that.

12 pages late but.. I'm not sure if I understand your analogy right. When are the Trump voters going to eat Trump?

Worry not, young Robby. Your Simba will come one day, and the world will gain colour again… in four years :x

I thought it was a choice between the two.

I'm fairly certain Trump is the most colorful president we've ever had. In a literal sense at least. So vibrantly orange~

Yeah I was about to say.
Could this create a new schism between Trumpoids and the "Israel is the only thing we care about" conservatives? Maybe push a few of them to the John McCain/Lindsay Graham faction.
Or will they fall in line with the "we've always loved Brother Russia, haven't we?" pivot mentality like all the other scumbags.

Apparently Tom Arnold of all people had a bunch of Apprentice tapes of Trump using the N word and calling his own son a retard.
Thanks Tom. Thanks for releasing those before the election. I mean, obviously it wouldn't have mattered but still. We all knew they had hours of damning audio that they just refused to put out.

I hope the son in question was Eric Trump, because he's basically the alt-right's "young creep" avatar in all this. So having their beloved dingus icon insult that would be fun.

Every time I enter this thread, I get a little bit more and more sadder. And the oompa loompa hasn't even been formally sworn in yet.

Also Charlotte repealed its ordinance protecting gay and trans people from discrimination; this was done with the understanding that the state legislature would repeal its Bathroom Privacy Invasion Bill.
You can guess how this went.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/north-carolina-house-adjourns-no-hb2-repeal
Anybody who deals with the GOP in good faith is being a naive fool.
-
I heard that it wasn't going to be a pure repeal, anyway, since the repeal would also put in place a 6 month "cool off" period, or some such nonsense, when no legislation could be passed anywhere in the state that protects the rights of LGBT people. There were democrats in the legislature who were opposed to the repeal for this reason, and also the fear that the republicans in control would indefinitely extend this period in the future.
-
Why are the bad guys so much more competent than the good guys?
-
Note that Charlotte went through with a full repeal; since HB2 makes such ordinances illegal, they can't even pass a new ordinance to replace it despite the state legislature betraying them.
