Chapter 784 : Gear Fourth

I like the new design. The only thing that bothers me is that gear 4th feels superior to gear 3. I can only hope gear 2 and gear 3 will develop more into their own fighting style (for example, luffy being very nimble "monkey-like" in gear 2, dealing precise damage). I would have loved gear 4 if it was just an alternative to gear 2 and 3 instead of being something superior (well, luffy stated he needed gear 4 to defeat huge beasts on the deserted island so I guess he couldn't defeat them with gear 2 and 3?). Can't wait to see the rest of the crew develop more monster-like techniques that look absolutely inhuman.. Except for Usopp ofcourse.

Also G3 can still be developed to affect his entire body. Could be used against giants etc.

Alright, let's start by explaining how the STRINGS can survive heat of hundreds of degrees, and kinetic force of several terajoules without bending an inch, while slashing through what is at least solid rock, and at most a amalganation of incredibly hard metals.

Yeah. I would like to think that Luffy's spring propulsion doesn't offer the same sort of control that Sanji' skywalk - like how a jet's flight capacities differ from those of an helicopter. It'd be nice if Sanji still retained something unique.

Gear Fourth seems pretty nice. A small overall review though:

-Very nice colourpage as always
-Awesome to see Doflamingo's face covered in blood
-Awesome seeing what Dofla thinks of the overpowered Luffy
-Awesome that Luffy sends him flying from Palace to the City.

Specifically about Gear 4

Design is nice. Could be something more "epic" as most of us anticipated. Its pretty nice and it doesn't resemble Nightmare Luffy so much because of the mascularity.
Very nice expressions while on Gear 4. I anticipate his voice changing a bit as well.
ENDLESS ATTACKS POSSIBILITIES. Thats what really mattered to me, from this chapter and from watching 2-3 attacks of Luffy, you can tell that Luffy not only has a strong gear to work on but the possibilities on expanding it are so many as well. His hands now resemble true pistols ahaha. This will be awesome to watch animated.

Only problem is there wouldn't be any major upgrades to his fighting prowess if his higher gears weren't stronger than lower ones but I do get your point about refining the lower gears so they're still feasible in battle for years to come, I can dig that. And lol @Ussop comment haha don't troll about my boy like that he's developing observation haki #kingofsnipers.

I'm waiting for Oda to reveal the setbacks for Gear 4th, otherwise it would make Gear 2/3 nearly obsolete.

Seeing Doflamingo gets slapped around was satisfying, though I'm impressed still retains his sunglasses.

Glad to see DF properties can be applied to Haki, it would make things more interesting later on.

yeah Sanji will always be unique in that his legs are beast, no one can do sky walk and blue walk like him and aesthetically speaking Sanjis attacks always look the most pleasing to the eye especially when he uses diable jamble.

Isn't the drawback low maneuverability? I can't imagine him fighting Logia with this for example.

It's already been pointed out that she needs to conserve her power to heal everyone who needs it.

Or maybe they know Law would want another crack at Doffy and with Luffy having told everyone to vacate and get to safety would be going against his orders if they allowed Law to return into the mix and get in Luffy's way.

They're actually just there to follow him and observe him. Since Zoro is trying to head for an edge of the Birdcage all around him, he will inevitably somehow end up outside it. The samurai are needed to retrace his path and share the escape route with everyone else.

I love how gear 4 gives Luffy tattoos lol. Still, I hope this comes to an end soon. Dofla hasn't shown his trump card either. Here's hoping he really has something left under his sleeves. Otherwise, Luffy will just go to pound town on him.

Gear fourth is awesome! I'm pretty sure Luffy can do partial gear 4 on his legs and arm if he only wants offense and mobilty but without the crazy defense.
But, damn, doflamingo is so tough! He's been taking alot of punishments and he's just pissed off.

I like gear 4 a lot, totally freaking awesome attacking power, and with this Luffy is at the top of the world !! though i wonder have he defended that blow, did he have haki on or what, it'd had to hurt him … would be awesome with gear 3 plus 4 i think thats how he will take birdkage down !!

Yeah, but it doesn't look like he can move like that constantly like in G2. It kind of looks like a milder version of how Bellamy maneuvers around.

I interpreted it as Doffy meaning his haki not working on Luffy, since haki would normally nullify a fruits power. Gear 4th is using his muscles and he uses it to make the snapping of his rubber attacks more powerful whereas Gear 3rd is using his bones to increase damage, but in a slow punching way. Gear 4th might not even be as strong as Gear 3rd, just that it's fast and strong enough to hit Doffy.

Even if I like the ability, I really dislike that appearance, so I hope Oda will give it some more attractive version later.

By the way this power up doesn't seem to be a frequent one, so I guess we'll see it very rarely. But mine is mere speculation.

I think he means that instead of being met with a solid surface, as would be usual with something that's been covered with CoA, Luffy is still retaining his elasticity.

Gear Fourth seems to consist of Luffy blowing air into his muscles, with CoA layered on top.

Giving him the appearance and properties of something akin to a squash ball.

No, not only Noah is HUGE, but as somebody pointed out he also propably can't use Gatling Gun at all in Gear 4th due to the delayed back stretching.
