Honestly, this kinda became meaningless the moment Luffy used Gear 3rd to make his limbs bigger than most of his opponents.
Heck, his fingers were larger than most opponents using gear 3rd.
Okay, I have to gush over the perfection of what may be my favorite color spread Oda has ever done.
First of all, FRANKY IS DOING THE THRILLER DANCE WITH A BUNCH OF ZOMBIES. That level of awesome speaks for itself.
Robin calmly feeding the zombie some greats is adorable, as is Nami clinging to Luffy. Also, both ladies are well-dressed and look rather normal! Achievement unlocked.
Zoro getting drunk with a zombie is the most Zoro thing he could do.
Sanji totally being a necro is hilariously disturbing.
And, of course, Chopper, Usopp, and Brook losing their collective wits is always good for a laugh.
But my absolute favorite thing about it, is how bright the colors are. Despite being Zombies, Oda colored the scene in a very light and relaxed way. It's ties the whole scene together perfectly.
I've also been trying to see if December 20, 944 has any significance, but my Gogle-fu has proved lacking.
It's funny how Doflamingo just makes fun of Luffy at the beginning.
Interesting thing is, since Luffy seems to specifiy the " bouncing man " part in G4, then maybe ! he'll have different G4 modes adapted to his ennemies.
The King Kong attack is really powerful ! But Doflamingo is kind of resistant too.
The Flying - Luffy part was a bit strange, though.
Oh yeah and Luffy doesn't seem to be able to walk… could be a problem.
To resume : the G4 is cool, even though some things are kinda weird ( flying - luffy + serpent cannon )

The idea behind the offensive and defensive upgrades is a good one, but it looks pretty awful.
One of the great things about Luffy is that despite being a small, unintimidating guy, he's still incredibly strong, clashing with guys many times his size.
This gear really takes away from that, in my opinion.
Of course, there's still scope for it to become more stream-lined as time goes on and Luffy uses it more.
As it is though...ugh.

From gear fourth you can already tell what 5th gear would look like, he's going to be more compact and possibly full body fire but still have the same mechanisms as gear fourth, increased elasticity and the use of conquerors haki to add Shockwave cannons to his punches like Iike Rayleigh does as a demonstration. I think the "ridiculous" look people are feeling indifferent about is just a "mode" like Chopper has and is called Bounce Man where he can spring around and cover ground at a faster rate. We all probably guessed the throwback to nightmare luffy since we reversed the chapter number and it coincided with the first appearance of nightmare Luffy. Someone wrote that it's disappointing seeing Luffy be big and Hulk-like because being small and taking on the big guys is what was awesome about him except Gear Third threw that out of the windows years ago and even in bounce man mode he's still considerably smaller than the giant animals he trained with. Since he's naming moves after animals I can dig that tribal tattoo haki he's rocking, jungle-theme lol and I can't wait for his tiger based moved or maybe even a Lion one. I've never commented on along park but this chapter is too good and one punch sent Doffy flying. It's no contest now unless the theory of Doffy's crocked evil eye comes to fruition where he loses all humanity and becomes like Majin Buu (tiny version) and just goes full on berserk.We all know he's wearing sunglasses since birth for a reason, his parents didn't want their son being ridiculed by other celestial dragons and common folk. But there's another reason and after Luffy smashes his glasses we will find out for sure.

The design is pretty cool, it got the comedy elements, it's a neat little throwback to nightmare Luffy, and though I don't fully understand how it works it's nice to know Luffy's continuing to explore his element.
I honestly didn't notice that about his Gear 4 "Bounding/Bouncing Man" form, that he is incapable of running and has to either bounce or use geppou to get around. He's essentially a beach ball on steroids (with some seriously nuclear punches). The design caught me off guard at first, but it's really growing on me.
I'll admit, the only thing I don't like about the design are those strangle haki blackened swirls over his chest but I can deal with them.

Come on man! I agree that it is luck f***ing silly but I love it. It is part of one pieces charm. Not all powerful things need to look super duper uber serious. They can look kinda silly and weird and that's what I love about it.

We still don't know the extent of Mansherry's healing abilities, though. Sure there is that restore thing, but it seems extreme like Law's immortality operation. It is within the realm of possible that the "normal" mode cancels fatigue, bruises and simple wounds, yet cannot mend bones or regenerate tissues that fast. Therefore a fully recharged Law would still have his arm held by stitches only, fragile and unusable - not ideal for battle.

i think the main gain there is in speed.
instead of losing time streatching back his arm and then launching the attack,the stretching is all made inside the arm,so he can shot his attacks much faster but with the same strenght if not more

The big difference being that the Fussen technique (apart from isolated cases like Gigant Shell) increases the mass of one or two parts of the body, while leaving Luffy's main body the same as ever.
This changes Luffy on a whole new scale.
First of all, it is nice that the side characters are doing something now - especially Zoro and co., who are trying to stop the cage.
As for G4, the idea behind it and the offensive/defensive capabilities are nice. I'm not sold on the design yet, but I hope and think it'll grow on me. I also hope G2 and 3 will still be explored after this, and that, in the future, he will use them all equally depending on the opponent.

Like I said to Serqeues, apart from instances like Giant Shell, Luffy's body still remains the same for the most part in Gear 3rd.
With this, it looks like he's always going to be a big blob when implementing it, changing his appearance a hell of a lot more, every single time.

I have no idea what Kong Gun comes from, other than the obvious fact the "Monkey King" references King Kong.
It does have the word gun in it, so perhaps it's not referencing any firearm in particular.
Actually it doesn't change Luffy to a whole new scale this is but one mode he is utilising. When you first see him get into fourth gear he only expands one arm's muscles so it can indeed be isolated but leave rest of his body normal, why not?

It's not really floating my boat either Robzilla, mind you it is effective and Luffy using a kind of ape form does fit in with his family name.
Was hoping for the same effect this new form gives him without the inflation but never mind, it has clearly done the trick as his defence and offence have increased greatly.
Essentially he is now armoured rubber with no loss of elasticity, so he keeps all the benefits of being rubber with haki on top which makes him incredibly durable and I would think faster than he was before as well.
If Doffy wasn't feeing the hits before he most certainly is now.
P.S Is Zoro going to bring the cage down after all, perhaps we will see his closed eye finally.

This is meant to be one of Luffy's major battle transformations that he'll use all the time from now on.

The cumulative impact of the Naruto Sage Mode eyes, the round belly, the little stumpy haki-fied legs and the weird haki swirls on the shoulders is not pleasing to the eye.

Luffys plot punches are not strong enough to go through flamingos glasses plot armour.
It's going to take me a while for me to fully wrap my head around how I feel about this. My reaction in the spoiler thread was: Shock/dislike –-> Read actual chapter ---> Enjoyment/acceptance.
One thing I realize we are now missing is how absolutely hideously pissed off Luffy was before. That was, well, a level of intense shading on Luffy's face I had never seen before. By his actions, that's discernible, but not nearly as much in his facial expression, in Gear 4th.

Also, I'm hoping that Gear 4th is not used nearly as commonly as 2 and 3. I feel like this will be the case… Just a gut feeling there. If it's used too frequently, it'll become associated with Luffy's identity, and to be quite frank I don't want that lol. I feel like this Gear should be used on special occasions. I want to see this version of Luffy, in fights, maybe 20% of the time. Not because I don't like it, it is just very jarring.
Putting all of that aside, that chapter was definitely not a footnote of One Piece history. That felt like I was witnessing history. The chapter was legendary.
On the ship Doflamingo asks Luffy what he spent the last two years doing. Luffy refused to tell him. Why? Because he learned that it's best for people to not know what he's capable of so he can catch them off guard. It's not been unintentional that we haven't heard about this until now. Don't tell them what you're capable of, show them they underestimated you and now it's too late.

Nah i was the same. It wasn't pleasing. But we'll get used to it.

Birdcage can cut meteors, but somehow pushes the significant amount of rubble towards the people, thus once again proving Doffy's strings are made from plot convenience.
Zoro is going to block the birdcage. If he succedes, I will print a full scale picture of him just so I can shoot flaming arrows at it.
Healing powers are suddenly not instantenous, as has been established. More plot convenience.
More hyping for the world changing. And it bloody well can't arrive fast enough. Though considering it has been supposedly changing since Whitebeard War, which happened pre-timeskip, I shall remain pessimistic until it actually happens.
Gear Forth… I like the incorporation of Kabuki elements into design. At the same time however, the art on it is... off. Especially the face; if you look through the chapter, it sometimes loses any resemblemce to Luffy at all. Same with weird proportions.
And I'm sorry, I found the fact that it is CoA that allows him to do it just annoying.
Also, he stole sky walk from Sanji. Which is... well, they both witnessed Gempo, so I guess it's okay. Though it still feels wrong that the thing supposedly unique to Sanji got copied.
I liked the intensity of the fight, and the art, in and of itself, was good. Doflamingo seems to be on defensive right now, but that is just literaly patterns at work, so nothing to lose sleep over. Most of the new attacks seem good. They are well drawn, and fit the theme of Rubber fruit.
All and all, a good chapter, though with some hiccups when it comes to finer detail of things. Still, it has a solid core, and the fight is reminiscient of the old One Piece fights, instead of more modern approach of a lot of talking, face shots, inner monologues and exchange of a single blow from both sides.

Except it's not sky walk is it? It's the force from his springs just because they essentially let them both fly doesn't mean they're same technique, with your logic we may as well call Doffy attaching strings to clouds "Sky Walk"

Wow, I remember reading a very long, detailed theory on gear fourth like 6 years ago and its pretty scary how close this is to what I read. The guy had drawn out examples and everything, the theory was that Luffy was going to be able to control every single muscle of his rubber body allowing him to no longer even throw his arm physically to hit someone, he can just hold his arm out and it'll shoot out. Luffys arm turning in mid air almost seems to be that, King Kong Gun was his arm contracting inwards but Serpent shows the greater control I mentioned. At first I thought he was just mimicking Sengokus Buddha form but this is certainly something I need to see more of to understand, he's bouncing around like a ball all while in haki? If his muscles are full of air now, does that mean his bones are normal sized? Or is this just a condensed form of gear 3rd

I agree, I was gonna compare this to monster chopper but since he can control that now than I don't know what else to compare to, this is not a powerup I want to see used everytime without truly being needed. Has Luffy used gear 2 combined with gear 3rd outside Moriah? I can't seem to remember.

We don't know if different wounds require more or less healing or if they heal instantly. The only time she healed somebody entirely was by getting the shit beaten of her and the guy only had a few bruises.
Gear 4 looks great, what are people hating about? I love the idea of rubber cannons, and even the punch changing directions thanks to air makes sense - can't wait to see an explanation next chapter as to why Luffy isn't losing any air etc. What did you guys want? Another normal Luffy, but somehow looking cool?
Personally, I think he can use G4 only thanks to haki - he's making his body durable enough to control his fruit under such extreme pressure and he'd burst without it.
