The fact that Corbyn is all for Brexit while the rest of his party is very much against it should probably tell you all you need to know about Labour's current status.

Not everything is perfect, but the country seems to be on the upswing right now. It's been almost 2 decades since living standards have improved and the economy grew significantly. Let's hope this is beginning of a nice trend and that the people who have suffered so much for the past few years can find a good job and stabilize their lives.

Oh So Punchable Nazi Richard Spencer loses his gym membership after a woman accosts him during his workout.
Gonna admit to mixed feelings here. While seeing a Nazi suffer is never unpleasant, were he anyone else people would be siding with him against the woman, I think.

He's one of those pieces of shit who are quoting Nietzsche as a nazi philosopher. The kind of nazi I hate the most.

I agree. In fact, I do have the urge to side with him on this one specific isolated incident.
If the confrontation really went down exactly as described, then I actually feel a twinge bad for him losing his membership.Because it's one thing to be a shitty person, but does that mean he should be randomly harrassed during a casual workout? One thing is not related to the other.
What's next? No trips to the store? Can't buy a car? Can't have a home? Go live in the streets because of terrible opinions? That shit don't sit right with me.
Getting banned after doing nothing wrong in the incident itself does NOT feel like justice at all. The gym was clearly already aware of his presence, being on their roster and all.
They ONLY kicked him out now because someone targetted him and caused a scene. Otherwise, there would have never been an incident to speak of.Regardless of the moral high ground of her argument, the lady did NOT paint herself in glory in this particular instance.
Regardless of his political views, however rotten they are, he was (literally) exercising his right as a citizen to go out and do his daily everyday stuff.
If it was anyone else on the receiving end, I guarantee that the woman would have been warned or thrown out for starting trouble.Maybe I'm just a big sensitive pacifist pushover, but that's who I am and I'm comfortable with that.
I don't even agree with those people who sucker punched him, because (justified or not) that was still objectively criminal assault.
But it's whatever. I'm sure he can sign up somewhere else and this lady can enjoy her shortlived bragging right around her workplace.Well fuck. Gas explosion or planned terrorism?
Either way, RIP to all victims. :( -
I'm seeing a lot of reports stating it was an explosive device which contained nails. Not 100% confirmed but there also might have been 2 devices and the police did a controlled explosion on one they found. Anyway, it doesn't look to be some kind of gas explosion or any accident.
-
This thing is obviously a terrorist attack. They've really targeted the youth this time, and plus it's the concert of a major pop singer. Which kind of means the western world in a way.

Guy was working out at the gym when a woman confronted him on being the Most Punchable Nazi. It created a big scene and, in the end, the gym revoked HIS membership.
Also stuff like wapo can work still if you use a incognito tab or equivalent

That woman is Christine Fair,a professor who specialises in South Asia, more specifically Pakistan.
She confronted him about being a "neo-nazi" at the gym and claims that his presence harms the employees's present there and counts as "unsafe working environ" because the employees are people other than white male supremacist, and he is a supposedly a white male supremacist.
She was saying twitter that "being a nazi shouldn't be 9 to 5 thing" or something like that
I too agree it is going way over the line
And another terror attack in Britain, seems like a big one this time.Right around election time.
-
Has been officially declared a terrorist attack? Last I heard it was explosions with potential shrapnel
-
Honestly, who cares about Richard Spencer losing his gym membership? I really don't even care if it was unfair to him. Life isn't fair and of all the shitty unfair things life can throw at you, losing your gym membership because a woman truthfully called you a Nazi is getting off easy.
So…who cares?

At the time I found it interesting, of only because in this instance I actually found myself siding with him (as I said, had she accosted anyone else people would be up in arms at her)
Granted, rather more serious events have since rightfully overshadowed that one.

Update: Controlled explosion by police was on a pile of abandoned clothing, not a suspicious item. There was no 2nd explosive device.
Explosion that killed and hurt all those people happened outside venue as concert goers were leaving the arena.
-
Most of the people who went to that concert were probably still kids too, Jesus fuck man…
-
It seems like the perfect attack on western society.
Impressionable kids and youngsters going to a pop-concert of a relatively well known pop-musician attacked by a terrorist.Chaos and mayhem everywhere. The visuals are frightening.
Just what the aim of these attackers is

y yeah of course, I feel stupid not to have thought about it now.
And okay, I thought there was something to feel bad about him. Also, the comparison with being banned of a store doesn't work though (imo), but being banned from a bar or a nightclub for instance would work I guess. I assume buying a car and other stuffs were deliberate exaggerations. And obviously, he wasn't banned because of his opinions or this particular scene, but the future potential scenes now that people know who he is (–-and eventually the reputation of the place). The gym could argue that since he's a "controversial figure" they chose to ban him in order to avoid any other similar scenes. And the law is probably giving rights to safeguard the interests of a company too. So in the end, this isn't as much "illegal" or "lacking of justice" as many people are trying to make it sound like.

Bar Nazis from all public places imo

i would honestly just give someone 50 bucks to smack Dick Spencer with a 2x4 and see how that went

It is very convenient that this 'terrorist' attack took place right before an important election. The person currently in the lead wants a nicer more understanding Britain that benefits everyone, especially the poor, whereas May wants a tougher Britain that benefits her party and the richest. Just when it seemed like May is losing she can pull the terrorist card to attack Corbyn and swing people to vote against 'terrorist sympathizers'.
How very convenient….

I'd like to express my condolences to the loved ones of the deceased victims who attended the concert yesterday. I'd be surprised if they're not traumatized.
In other unpleasant news, it looks like the civil unrest in Venezuela will get even worse than it already is before it gets better. Just this past Saturday about 46 people were injured, there was atleast one confirmed fatality, and a man was set on fire. Fair warning to the squeamish, the article has pictures featuring the latter incident.
This article sums up what factors contribute to the problem and why there is no resolution in sight. In a nutshell, it's a combination of overreliance on their oil revenue screwing over their economy, the prospect of social programmes being enshrined in a new constitution by the government sustaining its supporters, and the opposition of the current government rallying behind the sitting President stepping down so a new one can be elected.
-
Any scenario that the opposition would accept the new constitution are the ones that the government won't allow to happen.
The call for a new constitution is planed to be voted and drafted in a selected pro government environment. Not even close to the Chavez constitution.
These social programs are the worst possible way to give the benefits to people, as they are expensive unaccountable black boxes of money that distorts the needs of proper medical and educational infrastructure under the lies of "zero anafabetism" or "I got a free gal bladder extraction and I'm ignoring that I could also do that in the previous public health system"
-
seems one of the victims was a 8 year-old girl. The nutfucks from ISIS are really a bunch of pathetic persons.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Every single time there is an attack, every countries are going "We are ready to strengthen the antiterrorist cooperation between countries". Truth is, they can't do more than what they're doing now, but they just need to act as if new measures were being taken.
also, Dump called the terrorists "evil losers" wtf, is this a game or something? "from now on I'll call them "losers" and not monsters because they would like that term" yeah okay idiot, is this a shaming contest now ?
-
Is about the argument of safety vs liberty. No mater how much liberty you sacrifice, you'll never be 100% safe.
-
Sacrifice too much liberty and your safety is at risk from the people you gave it to as much as any outside threat.
-
And we only get safety theatres instead of safety measures, because most of what can be done is already being done, and "doing something" is more likely to be damaging/stupid than doing nothing. Case in point airport checks.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The thing is that in order to stop terrorism, more checks and controls to prevent attacks is... Not very effective. Is all a gamble of some agent listening to the right people in the right moment. It needs too much money or manpower to be absolute. And still there will be some crack that will filter through.
The approach of cutting the money sources of terrorists plus building exit options and just options for their would be supporters should be more effective.
Sure, the insane arms race makes it impossible to just drop the guard, but stopping the formation of new terrorists should be more important than it is now.
-
Yes that's what I said, they have to act as if new measures were being taken because some people need to be reassured. In France, the state of emergency has been promulgated in November 2015 (and still there), there has been other attacks since then, and every time there is a new one the president goes "yeah uhh, so last time it was the super state of emergency, let's now declare the super super state of emergency by adding a few cops and soldiers walking by the streets".
-
Yah, I was elaborating on that.

WTF is wrong with Brianna Wu? She's been insufferable for a long while now, but this takes the cake.
I'm glad that so many people in the replies are calling her out on her tactless ignorance.
There are victims of all genders who never came home from this tragedy, and she's trying to step over their corpses to push her agenda.
Honestly disgusting. -
This one's bad. If anyone has heard of Baylor University's ongoing football/sexual assault scandals, this just got a lot more disturbing.

! > According to the suit, the football team had a system of hazing freshman recruits by having them bring freshman females to parties to be drugged and gang-raped, “or in the words of the football players, ‘trains’ would be run on the girls.”Considered a bonding experience by the players, according to the suit, the rapes also were photographed and videotaped, and the plaintiff confirmed that at least one 21-second videotape of two Baylor students being gang- raped by football players had circulated.

The Baylor football program needs to be shut down, just like SMU in the 80's.

Yeah you're right, my mistake. Labour's not in the lead but they've made good progress, especially considering Corbyn is getting attacked from the usual suspects from all angles. All I'm saying is that I hope the Tories won't use this horrendous tragedy to their advantage to smear the Labour party. It's not a conspiracy.

I think the reason Corbyn is failing is because he's a shitty politician and him and his closest advisors keep showing they're incompetent.

All I'm saying is that it's convenient timing for an opportunity to be used to smear said party, and it worries me.
I hate how often 'conspiracy theorist' is used to shut down anyone that doesn't share the same opinion, or if you don't look at things from the same angle instead of all angles.
I apologized for my opinions in the past but please stop trying to berate me, I don't even know what I'm apologizing for anymore.
What is the point of a discussion if you can't share opinions and your end goal is to shut people down. You too Kaiolino.

No one probably on earth let alone this forum disputes the idea that a terrorist act could benefit an isolationist xenophobic right wing political party in an election. What you're saying here has nothing to do with anything.
