Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I guess Law has some liking for the Straw Hats, seeing as he went out of his way to save Luffy when he didn't have to. At the same time, he also said, "I can't let them get away either." Obviously he wants to confront them again, but for what reason? If the Straw Hats see whatever secrets are on this island, they would obviously be a threat to him and become a liability to his plans.

There's also the obvious connection Oda set up with Vegapunk going on, Franky's knowledge of Vegapunk from his winter island, and some other things Oda seems to be lining up for reveal and/or hint in this arc. Good stuff. I already can't wait to see these chapters animated, but that's a ways off.

He seems to be about as hostile to them as he is to marines, and different attack could be just for the sake of variety since none of his "attacks" are exactly lethal anyway.
I imagine switching people to such drastically different bodies would have about the same effect as slicing - they are non-combatants either way.

True. I think the point of the attack is to cause confusion and keep them from fighting at their full capacity. Because Law knows there are more members of the crew that could just put their pieces back together if he chopped them up.

Good point. I really didn't stop to think about the fact that none of them have knowledge needed to utilize their current bodies. As you mentioned, Sanji doesn't have knowledge of weather and Chopper may not be able to control Sanji's brute strength. Nami has know knowledge of how to work Franky's complicated body, and Franky won't be able to fight well in a reindeer's body.

All things considered, Law made the perfect strike against them. Unlike switching the bodies of random soldiers who all fight using guns, he knew the Straw Hats well enough to know how to throw them off their game.

Now, the question is if Law had control over who he placed in which body or if it was random. If he had control, I wonder why he chose to switch who he did.

@Kaizokuo: Tashigi's face at the end suggests she may have a plan up her sleeve. It doesn't look like she was utterly defeated like it implies.

Seeing as how we've seen a disassembled Samurai that still puts up a valiant attempt with just his legs, or torso I am half expecting Miss Captain to at least pull of a slash or two against Law to through him off balance or something which would give Smoker a chance to attack.

Yeah, I doubt the Straw Hats would have any issues against Law in specific, but Law may have issues with them for learning of his plans, regardless of whether or not they care about those plans (whatever those plans are). Time will tell I guess. If it wasn't for Law saving Luffy like he did, I would view him as more of a threat. But every time I think about how he just showed up out of the blue when Luffy needed a savior kind of strikes me as relevant to the future.

Personally, I was fine with how the fight was handled. I can see why people were angry with him using Shishi Sonson, but aside from that, I think it was okay that Hody got a few hits in at first. As strong as Zoro is, he was underwater. I think him having some difficulties with that alone would be acceptable. Zoro always adapts, though, so he was able to bounce back. Definitely could have been handled better, but there are worse things to complain about in the anime (such as Enies Lobby filler or Buggy and palls pissing on the wall in Impel Down).

Lately, though, the anime has been well done in my eyes, even given the source material was not Oda's best work.

If Oda had intended for any of those VA to become an Admiral, he'd have at least given some indication of it.
Jinbei made it very clear, they had been weakened militarily from AoKiji resigning his post...and that the WG had given unprecedented powers to the Marines in order to compensate somewhat for it...

Smoker is destined to become an Admiral eventually....as is Coby later down the line ( depending how far he has progressed in the 2 year time skip)

1). I agree that switching their bodies is the best way to deal with the SH, as we see from that samurai: all u need is a reassembly and ure back in the game. Body-switch throws them off completely and makes them not much of a threat anymore.

2). Its interesting that now Nami is the strongest of the bunch. Her fighting technique is irrelevant to her body, she just needs to get her Clima-Tact from Sanji and she's good to go. AND she now have a strong body to cover her previous physical weakness, learning Franky's weapons will only serve as an added bonus. Chopper's Kungfu point already involves kicks as an attack, so he can make use of Sanji's brute strength. Franky can still use his Franky Boxing in Heavy point or Berserk Point (assuming he can control Chopper's transformation, which I think won't be that easy). But Sanji is now the weakest of the bunch, not only that Nami's body lacks the physical strength, I also doubt that he'll put her body in any risk of injury. So Sanji'll be out of the fight as long as he's in Nami's body.

3). And Law's DF isn't that hax if u think about it. Because he can't actually inflict any "real" injury. All it does is delaying the fight, a mass (or single) confusion spell, if u will. To inflict real wounds, he has to shut down his "Room" and attack directly. At least that's what I get from seeing his power at work so far.

4). Lastly, this is just a guess, but I think his power works a bit like Moria. In that defeating him is not enough to undo his power effect. He himself has to do it

No, speed is more than being light. A big part of speed is muscle strength in the legs & glutes and also respritory fitness. Those two is why Usopp is faster than Nami. before timeskip, he was so scrawny that he'd be close to similar weight as Nami, but on several occasions shown to faster than her.

I add respritory fitness because someone who is out of shape gets out of breath faster than their legs giving out, soa ble to maintain breath is very important. From runners we know strong legs are important. Nami is fit but she has not trained her body to an athlete or a warrior's level. So Sanji will… welll should not unless Oda pulls a fastone... not be able to use ANY his skills, not even running fast, to the same level as his own body.

I take that is proof that Law did choose who went to which body, at least with Sanji. Law knew that Sanji was one of the top 3 fighters of the Strawhats and from what he saw at the Auction House 2 years ago, he would ahve seen that Nami was one of those that did nothing. He would have seen Franky get the keys for the other slaves, but Nami and Chopper didn't do anything combat-wise, but he did see Choppers heavy point then and realize the form he showed up with now is different, implying that Chopper has more control ofver his transformations.
Out of the three- Franky, Chopper, Nami- Sanji ended in the weakest one. I don't think its by chance.

I agree with all your points, but also I think Law switched their personalities/bodies around as it means they will need to return to him to reverse it. I think Law wants something from/with the SHP. Also, your combat hypothesis is very interesting, a great read. I'd love to see that happen and how they cope with their new unusual strengths and abilities.

Brownbeard's infobox just says "Boss". His people also call him "boss".
So where is his ol' nickname "Brownbeard"?
IMO Brownbeard took Hawkins' insult from 2 yrs ago very seriously (Brownbeard being a stupid name), so he decided to leave this nickname behind and never get insulted for it again.
Brownbeard's Jolly Roger is also gone. Maybe he didn't just quit being a pirate, but also get rid of everything that might be associated to his old nickname.
Good theory? It'd be funny if Brownbeard was that sensible if it comes to his nickname. And I know, on another hand it'd be lame, cause he'd be a Foxy 2.0.

Never thought of it that way, but yes they can't return to normal with the normal reassembly. They have to specifically ask Law to do it, and without any leverage its going to be a hard bargain. Moreover, Luffy might feel he is indebted to Law, and at very least, Law seems clever or witty. So I'm intrigued to see how all this will play out

Mine's also a pure speculation, so I don't mind u disagreeing. Franky does have a huge hand, and without the smaller inner-hand, handling a baton would be extremely hard. But Sanji's body is pretty much straightforward so Chopper shouldn't have too much problem with it, unlike the rest. Possible gag would probably involve him accidentally kicking things too hard and ended up destroying things

I agree with ur 2nd point, at least when it comes to Sanji:
Even if he could kick with the same strength as b4, I highly doubt that he would harm Nami's body in any way. His "gentleman-knight"-attitude forbids it.
First thing I could imagine is Sanji tearing apart his suit he gave to Nami to watch "his" bikini (I'd lmao if it really happens!).
Chopper could still use Sanji's strong legs when it comes to Kung Fu point or Jump point.
I also agree with u bout Franky in Chopper's body. I'd go with Heavy point.
Question is if Franky can use "his" DF just like Chopper did. He has no practise with it.
I'm all the more curious if Law switches the bodies of Lufy's group:
Luffy is usually invincible to bullets and isn't used to dodge them. If he is stuck in another problem this habit could get dangerous.

From the looks of it, this arc may focus largely on the SH's growth. So far we haven't really seen them over extend themselves since the time-skip. We have Law, Smoker, Luffy, and Zoro that are probably able to fight and meet "their match". While Oda probably didn't or couldn't have the other 4 fight equally against the other antagonists proves that in the state they are in now, they'll have their share of struggles. I see some people are upset over Sanji not being portrayed in the same light as Zoro and Luffy, but it's possible that Oda has something planned for him in Nami's body. For instance if he goes up against Master the mysterious (logia?) guy. He'll have to work hard to defeat him in Nami's body. None of the heart switching would have happened if Law's crew is present on the island. That's my assumption anyways. At the end, everyone will gain some sort of growth. While it may seem that Sanji got the short end of the stick, I don't see why he wouldn't grow as much as Zoro or Luffy will. For the M. Trio, they'll focus more on haki growth, while the others struggle and grow in their own way. That being said, I predict Law vs Luffy for the most part. Oda seems like he wants to resolve the issue of why Law saved Luffy in the first place. And Luffy seems like he'd rather kick Law's ass due to his attack on Luffy's crew. Anyways, again it seems like a growth arc. Even for Tashigi. I also predict Law being forced to put the SH's hearts back to normal by Luffy entering the mix. How exactly, I'm not sure.

Actually, I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I have a theory as to why Oda did this (the body-switch thing). Usually body-switching plot lines are used to flesh out character's abilities by giving them an in-story reason to properly detail them, i.e. explaining how they work to whoever is now in their body. It's been a year and a half since the time-skip, so maybe Oda's using this as an excuse to more accurately flesh out what each SH did during it?

Really? Law would probably be more humiliating, but Kuma could easily kill you faster. Even if you got your head shoved up your own ass, A) you would still be alive and B) with some pulling and reassembly you'd be totally and completely fine. Kuma could kill you before you blinked in like 5 different ways, all of which would be extremely painful and gruesome.

I misunderstood your post a little then. However, my point still stands. Of course if it turns out you're right, and that's it about VAs, I'll accept it.

That power the WG given the marines can be so many things. I believe Admiral Magellan isn't one of them, though.

Hm, I always thought Jinbe hinted at new Pacifista models - and he probably did, but what if they gave certain Devil Fruits to the Vice Admirals? I'm not talking about giving 2 VA's a logia to make up for the loss of Aokiji (and somewhat Akainu), but at least something to beef them up.

I mean, freaking Spandam is able to get his hands on 2 Devil fruits rather easily, the higher ups at the WG could certainly provide even more powerful df's to the marines finest.

Franky would be able to use the normal 3 forms (natural, hybrid, animal…or in Chopper's case -reindeer-chibi "tanuki"- humaniod), but the extra one's he wouldn't. If he tries to use the rumble balls, Franky would be funny as he has no experience in controling the transformations.

Chopper would not take a Rumble ball while in Sanji's body. They are made to interupt the aura of the devil fruits, thats how Chopper first made the 3 transformations of zoans into 7. Since Sanji does not have any DF ability, the rumble balls would nto react that way. We do not know how they would react to people without DF, it could make them sick or poison them. Since Chopper has never used them on a human (that we know of) then as a doctor, it would be against his ethics to eat one while in Sanji's body.

Yeah, yeah, they've got stronger and stuff, but still, Smoker's had one goal since Loguetown; To capture Luffy. He probably knew that Luffy would come back stronger than ever, thus getting a VA title and a huge increase in strength (I guess)

Zorro going up against Law would be a good showing. At the end of the day he still has to slash his victims, albeit rather quick, near invisible slashes, to rearrange them and this would be a perfect opportunity for Zorro to show off his Mihawk level swords skills (with Haki I am willing to bet) in order to deflect and fight mano y mano against him. The reoccurring theme thus far is typical swordmen who over estimate themselves and get royally f**ked by Law, its time for Zorro to enter the ring and show miss Captain and Puzzleman Samurai whats up!

Not to mention it'll also leave Luffy with plenty of time to show Smoker how he could actually beat the shit of his ass now!

Pre TS the huge gap in strength between Luffy and Smoker was a tad superficial as it was caused mainly by the fact that Luffy had no way of hitting him. If Luffy at either Marineford of Loguetown had a way of striking Smoker, I'm not necessarily saying that Luffy would have won but he could've given it a good try at the very least. Remember that Crocodile annihilated Luffy in their first fight but as soon as Luffy could punch him, Luffy won (albeit with a lot of difficulty but still a win). To say that Smoker was a huge way ahead of Luffy pre TS is also to say that Smoker was a lot stronger than Crocodile and although I'm certainly not in the "Crocodile is the greatest ever!!!!!!!!!!" camp I do think that he's atleast an equal to Smoker.

Basically my whole point boils down to the fact that the huge gap in strength between Luffy and Smoker pre TS derived from Luffy's lack of haki (or way to hit a Logia), give Luffy (or any character for that matter) haki and the gap diminishs greatly between them and a logia. If Law has haki (or if his Ope-Ope abilities supercede a need for haki) then it is not ridiculous in my opinion for him to be stronger than Smoker.

Personally I don't think that Law is stronger than Smoker purely for storytelling purposes but I wouldn't be outraged if I was wrong.

You're right. But Smoker has always been the cat and the SH's has always been the mice. Luffy may fight on equal terms with Smoker now but I think it will end with the fight being disrupted.

Well, I wouldn't call it a reaction since they didn't actually meet, but last chapter Smoker saw Franky's little tank routine along with the others and had a "wtf" look on his face, lol. Still would be nice for more interaction with all the other Straw Hats other than Luffy, even if Luffy is Smoker's main target.

It's little things like this that make the best humor in One Piece. Not crammed down your throat, just subtle enough to work.

As I understand it, Rumble Ball only affects specifically zoan. So if any other kind of DF or normal people eat it, well, they would probably be poisoned, disrupted, strengthened, or nothing happens. What I'm really interested in is what other forms will they take if, say… Lucci, Kaku, Jabura, or Marco eats it.
