Regardless of whether that's true or not, if they want a chance to adapt the entire series they'll have to do that eventually. A season every two years would mean the show would run until the 2040s...
Season 2 (and Beyond?) Speculation Thread (Spoilers)
-
-
First set of Season 2 Casting revealed:
-
David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3 is fantastic, that guy has been in so much notable stuff in the last couple of years. Interesting that Miss Goldenweek hasn't been revealed with the other Baroque Agents of early Alabasta saga.
-
Gives me hope they will do a panel and some reveals at Comic Con next month.
-
I really like the choice for Mr. 3.
-
Im also a big fan of David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3. I loved him in Suicide Squad.
And is it just me or Mr. 9 is picture perfect. Dude doesnt even need makeup, just draw a couple of 9s, give him a green jacket and a crown and he's ready to shoot.
-
@cavendishsama I'M A FUCKING SUPERHEROOOOOOOOOOOO
Considering they killed Merry in S1, I think Mr. 3 and Pell will actually die this time around.
That said, can't wait for Tashigi.
-
I think Mr. 3 is too important to die. They'd have to write around his absense if they ever do get as far as Impel Down. And the way he survived made sense, unlike Pell. Pell is definitely dead, and maybe Igaram.

First set of Season 2 Casting revealed:
Dastmalchian as Mr3 can only mean we're going to get a huge name for Crocodile.
Maybe the speculation about Oscar Isaac will be proven true.
Croc aside, I am in hype for Robin, Mr1 and Mr2 revelation. And Ace of course. (I kinda hope we get some glimpse about Teach or Newgate too)
-
Crocus, Dorry, and Broggy have been cast.
-
So, I'm guessing they're going to use CGI to make them super big?
-
@Johnny-B-Decent I gotta bite on this one.
What would the other possibility be? Extreme camera angles and lenses? Miniatures?Making a giant is one of the easiest thinks to do in cinema and you don't really need CGI, just post-production and editing.
Use a miniature set for those playing the giants, use a normal size set for the normal characters, and then mix both footage when you edit. You still need alot of attention to detail to make sure the sets match and that the lightning and shadows match otherwise it detracts the rest and feels fake, but from all the crazy shenennigans that OP has to pull off having a couple of giants for an episode or two seems like the most straight forward. -
If memory serves correct, both of them are around 60 plus feet tall (or 15 meters), but since the characters here aren't so big as in the manga, they might be able to make them smaller.

@Robby Your man Wapol is here
-
@Cockycent As someone whose favorite female One Piece character is Tashigi, I don’t have the best first impression on this casting. But hey, I’ll keep an open mind and look forward to her performance still, my excitement for this show still hasn’t waned one bit.
The casting for the other three characters look amazingly spot on, however.
-
Jesus Christ, Smoker looks hot.
-
Holding off on Crocodile, Robin,, Hiriluk, and Kureha. Maybe they're not cast yet, or maybe they're saving bigger characters for later. (or they're casting in-sequence and just haven't quite officially gotten there yet.)
Kureha will be extra interesting given that Jaimie Lee Curtis has expressed interest in playing the part for years and the showrunner has publicly courted her. But she's filming three different movies right now and has a busy year ahead, so maybe she's not an option anymore.
Though most of Kureha's scenes are isolated and in a castle, with a character that will be special effect heavy probably, and a handful of scenes with some villagers, so she could conceivably film her entire part in a handful of days without needing to interact with much of the cast, it's not like she has to be there for months of filming.

I like that the actor, somehow... actually already looks like Wapol without any makeup or anything? Maybe it's the swish in his hair.
-
yoooo I'm loving these casts, Dalton's actor kinda looks like Tom Hardy lol.

How could you forget Vivi
-
@Robby They havent announced Vivi so they're not going just by chronology.
And they did start with Mr 3 which is arguably the most well known new cast member, the actor not the character.
So I believe they started with a bit of hype with a more familiar face, now they're going through the secondary characters, which are less known actors, and they finish it up with the new protagonists, like Vivi and Robin, new main antagonists, Crocodile, Mr 1 and Bon Clay, and main secondary characters like King Cobra and Kureha, which presumably also has a few big names in there such as Jamie Lee Curtis to finish up big.And on that note, she wanted to do it, the show wanted her, they'll do their best to acommodate her schedule.
It's not a done deal, afawk, but shes a big enough name to be worth the trouble. -
Freaky Friday will shoot for like a month, two months max. One Piece is in production until January most likely. There's lots of room to squeeze her in if that's the issue.
-
No clue where they plan to shoot location for Drum Island but that might affect the timeline for when they'd actually need JLC anyway.
-
@Riddler said in Season 2 (and Beyond?) Speculation Thread (Spoilers):

I thought she'd been leaked already and just not confirmed.
-
They’ll probably save the big ones for last, can’t wait to see Sir Crocodile, Portgas D Ace, Nico Robin, Vivi Nefertari and Tony Tony Chopper
-
Jaimie Lee Curtis is officially NOT playing Kureha. Just couldn't work with their schedules.
https://www.darkhorizons.com/jamie-lee-curtis-not-in-one-piece-s2/
“She loves the show. She has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on so our production dates aren’t going to work. She definitely wanted to do it but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated.”
Asked if somebody is playing Kureha in the new season, Clements says: “We have found an amazing person” which indicates someone has been cast – just not yet announced.
-
Yep, I posted about that over in the Interview thread on Friday.
I'd been saying for a while in the Discord at least that we should have probably managed our expectations on JLC. Even setting aside the recent controversies (which have clearly had no effect on the trajectory of her career), nobody in Hollywood works for free, and wanting to fill a role is a long, long way from being available to fill a role. "We'll talk" is never confirmation.
Even "x has been cast by y" Deadline articles are hardly a confirmation anymore. Recasts happen everywhere all the time for a variety of reasons at all stages of production.
-
Hopefully JLC will get to pop in for some other role.
What do you guys think about Xolo Mariduena playing Ace? There were some rumors that he was cast, which he denied, but said he'd love to do it and he's auditioning.
Funny thing is I was watching Cobra Kai and thinking I could see him in the role, then literally the next time I opened Google, I saw the rumor posted. -
No Alabasta. source: https://x.com/WSJ_manga/status/1825886295433904318
for those who thinks alabasta is a must for s2, I like to preface this by saying I respect that opinion but do think back on movie 8 and how bad cramping alabasta into 2 hours is.
And then think back to movie 9 and how great expanding on Drum Island is.Arlong Park had 2 episodes (well technically, 1 episode and 70% of another) but Alabasta has severely more things happening and an actual war along with 3 whole Crocodile encounters. They didn't even do the Hachi fight then.
Alabasta wasn't going to work in 2 and even 3 episodes without the content being minced and gutted.
-
We have our official answer now from THE MAN himself.
-
I felt it wouldn't make sense. At first I tried to give it by factoring the cutting out of some arcs, but even then it was difficult.
Might as well include s many arcs as possible if not touching Alabasta.
-
@zeltrax225 Well, shit.
Wapol as the final boss of the season? Maybe they wouldn’t do ChessMarimo but have Zoro vs Chess and Sanji vs Kuro Marimo instead while they bring in Wapol’s brother from movie 9 for Chopper to fight.

For filming purposes they'll probably just spend the entire season in Alabasta. That being said, it's not like they can't do Alabaster in 100 minutes. Change the plot around to focus on the key components for Alabasta specifically, then take leftover elements and move them somewhere else that would be cheaper for them to film in.
Heck, they could shoot the majority of Alabasta on sound stages. That would be way less of a headache.
-
They tried working on sound stages this season and they said it turned out looking like ass compared to South Africa’s outdoors.
-
It is interesting that like season 1, they will go from island to island.
I believe they can do both Alabasta and Jaya in season 3 if they wanted to. That would be a dramatic change if that is the route. 1st 2 seasons going from setting to setting while season 3 is just 1 country. Even in that country, you have
- meeting Ace in Nanohana
- Rainbase casino look
- Toto in Yuba
- capital
That blast off would be crazy to end the season w/ Teach and the others watching them.
As for season 2, would they involve Smoker in more arcs than he was in? There weren't too many villains for Drum and Little Garden. Had to separate the crew, then switch out certain characters.
Something about Oda's message feels more strict. Maybe there is a better term, but he seem more light hearted during the 1st season. Feels like he might be more vocal this time. Maybe he is just really excited to top last season.
-
@Cockycent My dream for S3 would be Alabasta, Jaya, Skypiea, and then end the season with the cliffhanger of Luffy being frozen by Aokiji in Long Ring Long Land.
Wouldn’t happen, though. -
I think these are cool news overall.
A while ago we were all discussing what arcs they would cut or shorten but turns out they won't really leave anything out. Well, of course they'll adapt things, not do a shot-for-shot remake of the manga/anime, but they'll cover all the arcs. (also, @Greg you sneaky mf, you saw us discussing which arc they would cut and commented "Interesting conversation, guys" knowing fully well they were cutting none. I were laughing back then weren't you? xD)
So we're going to spend a season meeting Vivi, to really drive home that good bye in season 3, and building Miss All-Sunday as a villain for the same reason. And we'll end season 2 on a high note of recruting Chopper and his sad backstory and teasing Ace.
I'm also guessing Smoker will have a bigger role this season, kinda like Garp had in season 1. Otherwise we'd only see him at Loguetown and then in season 3. -
@FolhaS said in Season 2 (and Beyond?) Speculation Thread (Spoilers):

At least this would make sense. I liked Garp as a character for being so aloof despite his status but he was being way more antagonistic and schemey than I would've like.
-
I think it would make for much more impact if Mr.3 gets moved to Drum Kingdom to be the final boss of the season AFTER Luffy beats Wapol. His Doru Doru powers work so well visually with the snowy backdrop of the island especially when he wants to trick his enemies.
@Randy1031 Blink twice if this is the case.
-
Called it in regards to season 2 wrapping with Drum. It just makes the most sense when you think about the limited amount of episodes they have to play with vs how much source material they need to adapt. This way Drum AND Alabasta can both breathe. Last thing I'd want is for this to be a live action clip show.
-
@Kitsune-Inferno said in Season 2 (and Beyond?) Speculation Thread (Spoilers):
Season 2 will end with Little Garden. We're actually getting 1 episode of Loguetown, 1 episode of Reverse Mountain, 4 episodes of Whiskey Peak and 2 episodes of Little Garden.
Chopper will only appear in the post-credits.
If one of you says "Whiskey Peak can be cut/merged" one more time, Oda said he'll make it five episodes of Whiskey Peak, he doesn't give a fuck.
Don't say I didn't warn y'all.
-
@Kaiolino said in Season 2 (and Beyond?) Speculation Thread (Spoilers):

No, like, I meant actually just having scenes set inside of buildings, not trying to create an outdoor environment in-doors on a sound stage. Episodes #3-4 had those.
But hey, if they can afford location shooting then that's fine, too.
-
WTF no Alabasta?
-
With the content they have, covering this amount of content makes sense. You have :
-Lougetown. There's plenty of content here to make a good live action story, even if it was a short arc in the manga.
-Laboon, Whiskey Peak, and Little Garden. The events in these arcs can be cut or moved around, but between these arcs there's a lot of important scenes that should take at least a few episodes.
-After all that, frankly Drum Island can be a good climax for the season. While Drum was a smaller arc, Chopper's backstory is powerful enough to justify the time and focus, so this could get two episodes too.
With all that, you can start Alabasta in season 3. This series got greenlight for at least a few seasons right? Why not use that time to do things right instead of rushing things?
-
If it’s 8 episodes again, then I guess
Logue Town - 1 episode
Reverse Mountain/Twin Capes - 1 episode
Whiskey Peak - 2 episodes
Little Garden - 2 episodes
Drum Kingdom - 2 episodes -
@All-Fiction Whiskey Peak almost feels like it'll need to be extended to make 2 episodes, but it tracks with the structure of season one, divided into four blocks of two episodes.
Season 3 doing Alabasta and then Skypiea could be interesting, if budget intensive.
The announcement of not fitting a full saga in has me worried of even fewer episodes going forward, especially after Umbrella Academy just dropped in with a season cut to six (and shitting the bed in a good few ways outside of that). TV is going to be hard to get excited for if production times and season lengths keep going the way they have.

Can’t wait for the reveals in the next 3 days

Snow was falling in an instagram story. That could mean Chopper news tomorrow. (or not)
