Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !

@Greg Taika Waititi
-
I don't know of many actors, but there are many athletes and music artists who are.

Sorry folks, real quick! Besides Jamie Lee Curtis, any other thesps who are OP fans?
Iirc, when the live action was announced and casting rumors began, Cole Sprouse (a Sanji fan cast) said he was a fan of the series.
And does Lady Gaga count as an actress too now, or is she still mostly a musician? She had a OP reference in one of ther videos.
-
Wow. Like a confirmed reference or youtuber redstring theory reference?
-
@Greg Confirmed reference: https://www.instagram.com/p/CDSg2KxJCHF/?hl=en
-
I’m pretty sure Megan Thee Stallion is really into One Piece

It's on this music video. I think I linked it to the right place, around 6:08.
The japanese subtitles read "One Piece" while Beyonce's wearing an outfit close enough to early Nico Robin but in yellow.
I don't think Lady Gaga ever mentioned or was asked about OP anywhere else, but since she's usually a very hands-on artist about her image and presentation most people assumed that's a direct nod from her and not just something the video team decided to include. And thank you, Andre, for the Cole Sprouse confirmation.
-
Folhas, thank you!
Hmmm, that's tough. It's like...maybe it was intentional, maybe it wasn't, but even if it was intentional, was that her choice or the production team?
It's cool though! I didn't know! Be cool to get a confirmation.
-
Greg this time no raid suit question but still a Sanji Vinsmokes question
Are his ability gone? His eyebrow has been back to normal after the Queen fight and also we had no single hint that his body is still "manipulated" with the powers of Germa.
So what ya think. Are his powers gone and with it Ifrit Jambe and Exoskeleton?
If not what about his eyebrow? Will it change in serious fights to show that his abilities are "on"?
-

Not an actor, but there's Dua Lipa.
-
I’m still hoping Vegapunk fixes the raid suit so Sanji can enjoy all the benefits without the adverse side effects
-
I feel like the raid suit is dead and buried since its existance opposes Sanji's character arc completely.
The only reason it existed for a while in Wano was to give Sanji some conflict, and set up the panel when he finally destroys it and breaks free from his family's influence for good.
-
I thought the point was for him to accept help from others and accept that he is a Vinsmoke/lab rat. His final attack had him acknowledging the science bit anyway. He can't run away from it and he thought that accepting the Vinsmoke science would make him like his siblings, yet that isn't happening. At least so far. He gave Zoro that statement, which showed to not be needed, but it illustrated where he stood on that topic.
Threw away the suit and still a lab rat. Felt like Oda was emphasizing it a little too much with having Sanji believe he was behind the attack. I get he wants to spoon feed Sanji's internal struggle, but I got it the 1st time.
-
it seems weird to say he did away with it when it's the only reason he won against Queen
-
@Cockycent It's not about accepting that he's a lab right, it's about why he accepted the help from his family. The trauma from being a Vinsmoke is intermingled with why he left for Whole Cake in the first place. That part of him coming back into his life was a wakeup call of that trauma and he had to come to terms with who he was, what it meant, and who he wanted to be.
In Wano, he realized that he was willing to accept that help and that part of himself in order to help Luffy, but during the fight with Queen when he thought a part of who he truly was became compromised, he discarded the suit because the Sanji that Luffy wanted was the kind and caring one. Thankfully, the Vinsmoke hardness still remained, but I don't personally expect any of the other abilities to show up.
-
@andre Maybe because lab rat might not be the best term, but you're basically repeating what I said.
-
@Greg what's your thoughts on S snake turning cp agents into stone with the Mero Mero? Is it because they found her cute or is it something darker than that?
-
Do you think we’ll get to see some Vice Admirals shine this arc Greg? Or at least get some action?
-
@Sun-D Hopefully it ends up something like they are reminded of the real adult Hancock.
-
I’m looking forward to S-Gecko, S-Flamingo, and S-Crocodile
-
I believe they think she's cute. And it has zilch to do with sexual attraction.
If Oda doesn't deliver some Kizaru action after that tease I'd be surprised. However....I'm yet again somewhat uncertain of how the length of this arc will run. It's possible that it could bleed into something else. Really tough to say. The setup has been quite a unique pace. Er...well...maybe less unique and more early One Piece? Back when arcs were much shorter.
I still say he could hit the one year mark but they certainly seem to be hustling.
-
I definitely think Egghead is going to end in 2023. It probably won't be as short as Zou or return to Saboady was but I don't think it will be longer than any of the post-timeskip arcs. It doesn't seem that way anyway. We do have Kuma and Kizaru on their way (and presumably the other Marines who are nearby like Smoker, Tashigi and Helmeppo will enter the picture at some point) but I can't imagine CP0 actually sitting back and waiting either.
I would say this latest chapter (with it's round-up at the end) probably ended the introduction portion of the arc so now we're in the middle section. Just my feeling anyway.
-
@RomanceDawn maybe the tongue out soldier will get a publication in jump
-
Any chance that the man marked by flames is Saul?
-
With how fast these recent chapters have been moving the plot I'm thinking this arc is meant to be shorter and push them to escape to Elbaf, kinda like Zou to Whole Cake.
Unless it's a prelude to something else on this island that Oda is about to reveal. -
I think the next destination is Pirate Island and that's where the Battle Royal will take place.
Going from Egghead straight to the moon like Greg suggested some time ago would also be great.
-
I think the ancient robot will be involved in all of this. Making it a mix of on the mainland clashes and naval scuffles that result in an escape or a WG retreat.
The mystery MADS member and why Bonney has to be asleep for the clash with CP0 might meet somewhere. Similar to Puddin ending up in the other chapter. Wouldn't rule out MADS reunion.
Until G14, Kuma and some other chess pieces come into play, I don't believe this arc has hit it's 50% mark. The arc can possibly see it's way into Fall 2023.
-
Maybe Vegapunk’s dream of making an artificial sun will have some tie in with Luffy’s new Sun God form
I hope we go to Black Beards domain next, Luffy will try and save Coby, maybe we’ll get to see the Straw Hat vs Black Beard match ups get teased
-
New column is up;
https://one-piece.com/special/greg/detail/20221227_1307.html?l=entl;dr:
Luffy could be the energy source, thoughts on Haki and Devil Fruits. -
I thought the energy source would be the voice. Seems like something that may last. Roger could sense it in the Skypiea PG and it possibly commanded the robot all those years later.
Roger said "it's a story of great power, isn't it"?
If all things have a voice, possibly it's those who are sensitive to it that can hear and/or respond.
Edit
Probably why VP thought quantum tunneling (warping) into the robot would work. He just can't reach the source to observe and then attempt to duplicate. -
@Cockycent That is a cool theory. The strength of a voice has also been talked about and the concept hasn't been explored, yet.
-
Yep! I've called VoaT the 'lifestream' for a long time. And the best free/renewable version of that might be laughter.
If the VoaT is expendable, that's kinda a grim prospect since it would basically make VP into Shinra. If laughter is gifted to everyone it's an easily renewable resource. One might argue it's Matrixy, but if people are living their lives and happy, maybe it's not such a bad thing.
-
I would like to see when Oda chooses to continue on how Luffy was able to be heard underwater and obviously survive for that brief moment. Can he hear voices from the stones as well? So far, I haven't seen him comment on it. Not that he has to, but there's Roger and Oden hearing the Sea Kings.
I get the feeling that there is a lot and he will take his time with it. Part of why I disagree with majority fan sentiment that "OP ends in 25/26". Too much to unpack and even with his recent timeskip pace, Oda still takes his time.
-
@Greg That is less Matrix and more Monsters, inc., funnily enough.

Assuming Oda controls himself when we get to Elbaf and that doesn't take more than a year, I still see 2027 (the 30th anniversary) being a reasonable timetable to expect Oda to wrap up what remains with some semblance of real pacing.
He's been really clear he's in the home stretch and wants to be done, so I don't think predicting another 10 years or whatever makes sense at this point. (He has to backpeddle NOW and say "there's still plenty left" because anyone counting from his "five more years" declaration would see there's 2 years a left and that's just not enough without some extreme rushing.)
But if Elbaf turns into another skypeia or caketown and takes 2 years, then all bets are off.
-
2027 makes sense to me. Thinking about it, I don't imagine there's actually many arcs left. Elbaf after Egghead and at that point they'll have the 4 Road Poneglyphs and can go straight to Laugh Tale. And if Laugh Tale isn't the final arc then there will be at least one more, either at God Valley or Mariejois or just taking place across multiple locations. I'm starting to think islands like Pirate Island won't be visited by the Straw Hats themselves, just other characters or seen in flashbacks (like the inevitable Rock's flashback).

Random question that probably shouldn’t be asked in this thread but I don’t know where to put it so…. How expensive can manga pens get?
-
normal day. yup. just a totally normal day for me.
no pressure. noooooooooooooo pressuuuuuuuuuuuure.....
Anyway, Shiebs, manga pens proper....aren't that expensive? I mean maybe the handles can get pricey for flashy ones but they're not that much.
Manga supplies in general are 'cheap' basically speaking. It's the quantity that gets pricey. For pens specifically, the cost of tips would be where you sink money.

A story to tell someday. I can't believe I live the life I do sometimes.

I hope you are writing down those stores somewhere so you don't forget to share any of them :P

I really need to. My wife just reminded me of one that is super embarassing which I totally forgot about.

Can’t wait to see your article on the newest chapter! So many questions I can’t wait to see answered
Will all seven Vegapunk’s really travel with the Straw Hats? Is there a traitor among them? If not who deactivated the security system? Who was Vegapunk talking to? What does Vegapunk mean when he says there’s a good reason he can’t turn Kuma back? And with Oda setting up both Pirate Island and Elbaf which one will the straw hats head to next?
Jesus Christ so many questions to be answered in just one chapter
Also hope Sentomaru comes back, he never even used his axe

When you say "pen" do you mean brush, quill, or nib? There's a whole bunch of different pens for doing different things and different approaches.
For a casual use though, you're probably thinking of nib pens, and those are a "use it until its done and then throw it away" sort of thing so its pretty cheap, you'll be able to find a pack of five for 10-15 bucks that will usually have multiple nib sizes for varying line weights.
The main problem with those is they wear out pretty quick and rarely make it through a 20 page story, so i you're actually making comics you end up buying a lot of them, though once you figure out the size you like you can buy that particular size in bulk.
If you're just going to use one for fun every once in a while it can last a decent time.
If you're talking about a "I'm going to use this one pen for ten years and refill the ink manually and change out the head ocassionally" those are 30-50$ and take some work to maintain, but they will last.
There's a huge huge variety, so you need to be more specific than "manga pens", but just one to play with won't set you back much.
There are some really, really expensive ones out there but no actual artist would ever recommend those because the materials wear down and the expensive ones don't magically make better art.
This article has a bunch of different pens and amazon links and might be able to help you.
