It just feels like even if that was the case he could have adjusted. Like it's not even about giving her a real fight but giving her something to do, giving her a small moment to shine with no asterisk cause at this point she literally barely did anything. A dual scratch on perosperos' face/save marco and then getting beat and lying on the ground and weeks later she still was on the ground.
Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)

That being said, to this day I'm still not exactly sure what feelings led to having a profound enough impact on fans enough to vote Carrot into #8, now that you mention it.
I think when they announced the mid results, those were probably closer to a truer showing, and after that you got rabbid fans of some characters going "oh, my favorite is at this rank? Lets get them higher." and then making mega pushes encouraging their friends or followers and getting less reliable results.
Because the top 10 was exactly the same aside from Carrot replacing Shanks, but all the girls moved up higher in the final ranking.
Notably Carrot was ranked 17 in the mid, while Yamato was… 11th. Where he ended up.
(Yams is still really impressive given he wasn't even in the anime yet at the time)--- Update From New Post Merge ---

Yeah, I dunno. I've never been on the Carrot for Nakama band wagon, but she was definitely done dirty as a major supporting character in an arc loaded with supporting characters.
-
I mean it isn't the worst balldropping that has occoured in Wano.
-
I'm the opposite of a Carrot fan but I can understand her at #8 more than I do Rosinante at #13.
-
Notably Carrot was ranked 17 in the mid, while Yamato was… 11th. Where he ended up.
(Yams is still really impressive given he wasn't even in the anime yet at the time)Yeah, despite the manga only having been to around Chapter 1004 at that point, I can even understand her having left enough notice to get into #11, with things like her clash with Ulti, showing her passionate determination to finish Oden's intentions, her relationship with Ace, her willingness to die for someone she cares about, baring her fangs at Sasaki, etc. Also interesting that Carrot got into #8, in contrast to having been #27 in a 2017 poll.
-
Rosinante is one of those Ojiro from MHA things where he left such a good impression on voters that he keeps polling well despite having been out of the story for many years.
Also he's connected to Law, who's sheer unfathomable popularity bought him a spot as an auxiliary Strawhat.
-
I'm the opposite of a Carrot fan but I can understand her at #8 more than I do Rosinante at #13.
Well, I saw Rosinante as a man that managed to have heart despite being born as a Celestial Dragon, and persisted treating Law like his own little brother despite being stabbed by him and being rejected by hospitals in trying to care for him, all in his quirky, endearing way. He not only had a profoundly dramatic scene with Law, but impacted the character of Law in such a way that he's still relevant to him, not just encouraging him to discover what the will of D. means either, but also to be a better person as opposed to wanting to destroy everything after the Government destroyed his home. Definitely hard to forget about a character like him if you ask me.
-
In they event that they don't become Strawhats;
Yamato will either go out with their own newly formed crew, or be the leader of a new grand fleet faction. Either way, Yammy would definitely get a full cover story devoted to the first adventures of the Yamato pirates. A goodbye for Yammy isn't even gonna be sad, since it would probably be more about how they'll definitely run into each other again out on the seas.
Carrot and Tama will either follow under someone else (possibly Yamato) or return to their regular lives (heavily improved). Neither really feel like they'd get full cover story attention; more likely just a single "where are they now" update or playing background support. Their level of bond and friendliness with the crew would be a big loss, so they better get the goodbyes they deserve.
As far as the popularity poll, both were heavily inflated. At least carrot brought some fun to WCI; I still don't see anything from Yammy to even put them in the top 100. I thought Jinbe was a character who's popularity I just didn't get, but Yamato has completely shown how far a miss a character can be for me.

I can't say how the Minks were received in Japan, but they've generally seemed well-received in the West. The reveal about them protecting Raizo feels like one of the more iconic One Piece scenes, and a lot of people tired of Dressrosa talked about how Zou felt like an upward wind for the series with it seeming like a well-received arc as a whole.
-
The minks were at least treated better than Hachan and Camie, who were also introduced several arcs earlier.
-

This i'll never understand.
A far greater mystery than what OP is.

Yeah, I understand finding the Minks as a whole interesting. In terms of individual characters though, if one can go by the poll, it only really seems that Carrot, Pedro, and Bepo got an especial amount of notice.
-

Fishman Island was twelve years ago and Hacchi's coverstory years before that.
They've been out of the story for a long time. I understand them not doing well now.

Sure but the arc was also short. Only like 20 chapters, and no real big flashback or villain fight. It was a breath of fresh air and had some great lore moments but sees to have not left much of an overall impression.

I’m still waiting for Pekoms return
It would be cool if he started up the Nox Pirates again and joined the grand fleet

That said, it is quite impressive that Hatchan got featured as much as he did, going on to be one of the most frequently appearing characters in the first 700 chapters. He was introduced as a lackey of a main villain, to getting his own cover story, to being the reason Luffy punched a Celestial Dragon, to even having scenes at Fish-Man Island like crying about being sorry for what he did to Nami during Jinbe's explanation of his past, in addition to having been friends with Koala for a time. All this I suppose would make it understandable enough for him to be at #235 I'd say, despite not having been featured in the story since then.
-

Introduced was the wrong word, I was thinking more about their relevancy in SA and how one would expect that to continue in FI.

I imagine he'll show up in the Germa cover story. I don't see any necessity for him to have died like Pedro for the story, and we never otherwise got an explanation about what happened to him despite Neko being told about Pedro, so it seems fitting enough.
-
Pekoms will already be on Zou with Pedro in tow to wrap up Carrot's story.
-

I have a feeling that he will be in the Germa coverstory.
Back in Capone's coverstory, I had a theory that Pound escapeed with Pekoms and others. However, when it was confirmed only Pound was in that Tarte Ship, I thought we'd never know how he fled WCI.
I think this new coverstory may cover that. Coverstories do not need to happen in present time, so we may be seeing Niji and Yonji in the past. Pound and/or Pekoms may be one to release them from the book (I'd say there's a chance of Pekoms being captured as well, since we last saw him surrounded and overpowered by BM's children). So we may see Pound releasing everyone and later in the story going on his own after the team leave the island.

Pedro and Pekoms saving the Sanji bros could work

I know Oda is still gonna do what Oda is gonna do regardless of fan rankings but….
aside from Carrot maing a surprise placement at 8th place, the next minks down are Pedro at 61 and Bepo at 64 (Bepo notably part of Law's crew and around pre-minks) Kawammmatsu at 96... and those are notably all characters that have been IN relatively current arcs. Nekomamushi is 101, Wanda is 212, Inurashi is 217, Pekoms is 274, and then more falloff from there.
Event their villain Jack is only 184.
I know Oda will Oda and focus on any character he damn well pleases, but is it possible that the minks as a whole were just so poorly received he just chose to stop focusing on them unless they were already embedded into the Samurai story? Including their big sulong fight against jack, just leave it to the anime?
Obviously with Carrot placing in 8th he' going to give her more love at some point, maybe a cover story, or regular side cameos like Hancock gets, but by the time they saw how crazy popular she was he was already set on finishing that storybeat the way he was and just had no desire to give her a real fight?
To be fair, it's not like the samurai themselves were that much better received.
The only really popular ones are Kiku and Izo (who I think was brought along exactly because of that). The rest are all not very noteworthy. Even Kin'emon couldn't break the Top 100.
Yet the focus is very disproportional as some end up more important than others. Kawamatsu and Denjiro are among the more popular ones, but have mostly disappeared and not done anything. Ashura was completely sacrificed. Same for Kiku despite being the most popular Scabbard. Raizo is currently in a gag fight. But weirdly enough, Inuarashi and Nekomamushi got major fights for some reason.
-
I too believe this cover story will contain a will of P revelation, whether is Pekomz, Pedro or both.

The fact that Totto Land still have Pedro-loyal Minks do give credence that the crew could get rebuilt, either by Pekoms or a not quite dead Pedro.

Sorry, for some reason I was thinking on Momonosuke.
-
Pedro keeps getting kicked down the road here. First he'll appear in Capone's cover story, now Germa's story. I'm glad the dope Minks like Faust and Bepo aren't meme'd as much. They deserve the respect.
-
Raizo is currently in a gag fight.
Dunno about that, at least in regards to Raizo being willing to get burned like how Oden was.
-

Law is incredibly fuckable.
Fuckability accounts for 80% of how well a character does in these polls.

For starters, Law is arguably the most relevant non-Straw Hat that has been alongside Luffy in the series, to put it lightly.

The 2000's pick up artist look is a hot ticket apparently.
Insert obligatory Bleach joke here.

It'll be the everyone's Sabo at least until his return.
The blame's on Oda.

Oda's also very aware of this since he said he was relieved when Hancock was a popular character meaning he clearly succeeded at her 'Most Beautiful' title.

He had to be sure the 11th Straw Hat, joining out of nowhere 13+ years after her debut, would be popular. :ninja:
-

To be fair, the Vinsmoke cover story seems more feasible than the Capone one. Especially now knowing that some of the Vinsmokes are caught. I just think the guy wanted to die and he got his wish.
-

Yeah, didn't realize how recently how much Oda seems to worry about make the women he draws look cute where he intends they be seen as cute. lol

Pedro is the dopest Mink. He's chilling in the Treetops of the Seducing Woods.

For as much as I'm in Yamato joining and rooting her to fulfill her goal of sailing the seas with Luffy and the others, I admit why it feels like there are things missing, like a dramatic scene between them. This scene from Chapter 1027 for example could have alternatively had Yamato crying and Luffy going up to her and yelling "Don't worry Yamato! Once I'm done with Kaido he'll be out of this country!" in light of scenes like Luffy reassuring he'd help Nami, or like with Rebecca at the sunflower fields, but it didn't turn out that way. Guess I'll have to wait for Yamato's emotional development to happen in relation to Luffy then.
-
That doesn't fit Yamato's character at all.
Tama already got the Nami treatment, with hat and all.

Are you kidding me? The best part about Yamato fending off Kaidou is she managed to hold her own until Luffy showed up. Besides, we already had that moment with Kinemon.
-
Yeah, Yamato is not really the damsel type. She's actively trying to fight and contribute herself.
-
For me, Yamato joining is obvious so what interests me the most is thinking about her future gag interactions with the crew.
My random predictions is that she'll form a perv trio with Sanji and Brook. I expect her to be as gullible as Chopper and be fooled by Usopp's lies. Same desire to go on adventure as Luffy is obvious. Being impressed by Franky's transformations contrary to the girls who are unfazed.
Interactions with Robin, Zoro and Jinbe are harder to guess since they don't interact much with the crew.
-
Armwrestling the shit out of Zoro
-

Not just Nami treatment. All the Straw Hats have had emotional scenes showing them cry and their vulnerability in relation to Luffy's story at some point, like Zoro crying in his proclaimed dedication to Luffy or Sanji crying as he's leaving Baratie for Luffy. I don't know, I just feel that it's scenes like that which can help strengthen the bond between Luffy and his crew more, and while Yamato has cried like during Luffy releasing her from her cuffs, it's cut short as soon as Luffy turns his attention to something else, so I'd imagine some bigger emotional scene would happen at the end of the arc.

I'd say that's one qualifier Carrot has met:

https://i.imgur.com/Se5u1kp.jpg?1Despite what happened, I feel like that one got cut kind of short with Luffy then immediately leaving right in the middle of the action. Even Kinemon had emotional moments with Luffy that were allowed to simmer more, if that makes any sense.

Just saying it's something I can mention happened vs. something that hasn't. Yamato certainly didn't cry when Luffy took off the cuffs. He cried when Ace told him his story, which Luffy himself wasn't there for.

?
The problem that I see with that is the focus. The entire scene seems more like Yamato crying of anger towards Kaido than gratitude towards Luffy. You may read it differently, and one thing does not impede Yamato from feeling gratitude, but Yamato's words are all of resentment towards his father. Plus, there's never that big focus you see in all the Straw Hat examples posted earlier. In all of those scenes, the character is facing/speaking/promising something to Luffy. Not here.
It's small subjective signals like those that make me doubt Yamato joining. Luffy's annoyed by his request, for example. There always seems to be a subjective barrier between him and Luffy.
Not to say there's no scene in which they seem closer. One comes to mind: when Yamato says Luffy want to fight Kaido alone, and Luffy smiles. That's one in a positive direction.
-
Kaido, Oden and the WG had already hinted some high relevance about Wano and its connections to the greater mysteries, but Linlin is pretty much putting it loud and clear, there's some One Piece around here as well.
I was already thinking Yamato would start caring about the purpose of her devil fruit, but that would only happen if she went to Laugh Tale to see the whole picture by herself.
BM's last words kinda reinforced that scenario, she'll go out, learn why Wano is important and why a guardian deity fruit exists, then she'll return.
-

Much as a I like Yamato and root for her to sail with Luffy, that I don't deny, that it can seem like Luffy is more annoyed or bothered depending on when he answers or leaves the situation. Like, imagine if Luffy started punching Krieg only a few seconds after Zoro proclaimed he'd never lose again to Luffy instead of smiling like he did, or if he suddenly ran off from Nami without saying "Of course I will!" like he did back then at Arlong Park, or if he walked away from Brook to get some food just as he was crying about finding about Laboon was alive and well. It's small moments like that which can still make for a more effective dynamic if you just let it simmer long enough.
That said, Luffy smiling at Yamato that time was nice. I imagine the more emotional bond will blossom more towards the end of the arc, which has tended to happen before now that I think about it, just before Yamato sails with Luffy, so looking forward to what's in store.
