Do the Strawhats have any money right now?
They got Moria's treasures back in Thriller Bark and never had any big losses since then, so I guess they do.

Moved to the Questions thread.
But it's a distinct possibility it will end with his death, passing of the hat, etc. I don't think it'll be in the present timeline, though. More like 20-30 years when he's had his fun.
I actually think it might be worth starting a thread for — mostly because the series is ending in 5 years tops and the possibility is a shocking path Oda may take. But I respect the decision.

Were the 2 gorillas with Cricket minks or just weird humans?
-
According to all info we currently have (including Vivre Cards) just some weird humans.

How do you guys think Big Mom gets involved in elbaf? Maybe she learns the strawhats are there sometime after wano, and decides to kill two birds with one stone?

Luffy will exchange big moms decapitated head for the road poneglyph :ninja:
-
I never thought Big Mom would be physically present in Elbaf (yeah, I know, unlike everyone else). To me Elbaf will be similar to Zou. Luffy will be well recieved because of the news that he defeated Mom somewhere else, and that will be just the introduction. Elbaf will be about the giants, not Big Mom

Count me in among the ones who don't expect Big Mom to be more than a memory in Elbaf.
-
Big Mom is either defeated by Luffy now, or there is a draw and she leaves Wano to conquer Ebalf. I could see Kaido and her planning that beforehand. But it does seem like she’s going down in Wano.
Evidence pointing away from Ebalf being another Zou arc is that Hajrudin wants to become the King of Giants and Lola rejecting engagement to Loki, who is now probably the King of Ebalf. So Loki could be evil & get replaced by Hajrudin. Maybe Big Mom goes to Ebalf after Wano and makes an alliance with Loki, earning him hatred amongst the giants. But I think it’s more likely Ebalf will focus on Shanks.
-
Personally I don't see BM being dragged along for another arc… I believe she will be dealt with in Wa
-
If this happens, her crew really needs to join in on the fights. Smoothie/Snack/Campote etc should not be shafted when it comes to the battles.

They say they are human but wether or not Oda had Minks in mind way back when it can easily be written today that they have some mink blood in them. I bet Merry is gonna end up with some Sheep Mink blood as well. All them weird people with horns and creature features. Though Kaidou, Moria and his Yomato might be something else entirely. Magellan looks like a baboon or mandrill.

I don't understand vivre cards, if the fragments are drawn to the largest piece of card then how come Luffy was able to use Ace's card to find him when he was in Impel Down? I can't believe the jailers would allow Ace to keep a hold of his portion of the card. Am I just over thinking this?

Maybe it was hidden so deep the jailers couldn’t find it. :ninja:
But yeah, I always thought it pointed the person, not other pieces of the paper… until someone corrected me. -

Luffy didn't find Ace because of the Vivre card. The newspapers said that he was currently imprisoned in Impeldown and Hancock used her connections to get him there with a Marine ship.
He did check on his card every now and then, but that was just to get an update on his general status. -

Oh hey, it's true. Chapter 526.
Guess it was easy to hide since he wasn't stripped like the other prisoners. A chapter before they note how the boiling bath conveniently sterilizes the cloths as well, so there was no need to change him into jailwear just for a week or so (same with Jinbe).

If Fishpeople are so looked down upon and discriminated, how come there is no slur against them?

The Straw Hats give them like 10 in the Arlong arc.

Also, being called “fish” is like calling a black man a “monkey” or “ape”.

He also checks it in chapters 539 and 540.
You and Decide make a good point, Ace is wearing his own clothes so it wouldn't have been hard for him to have kept his vivre card hidden. Especially since the prison guards probably wouldn't have bothered to look for it. It wasn't a secret that Ace was being kept in Impel Down so why would the prison guards care if people could also tell that using a vivre card.

It looks like his usual pirate hat.

This may not be the place to ask but…
I'm looking for high quality Wanted Poster photos of the crew. I'm having a friend carve them out of wood. Something nice and cool for my nerd displays.
Are there any color walks, HQ magazine photos or anything really of the Wanted Posters? I'm thinking I'll do pre-time skip first with Jimbei's 76 Million as well and then updated ones later. Pictures can be colored or not just want to know if anyone has any leads while I google whats around.
-
Huh, I never noticed Big Mom had a pistol there. That thing's got to be as big as a cannon!

As far as I know, the Mugiwara Store has the best quality wanted posters, both Time Skip and Pre-Time Skip.
Besides that, the One Piece Magazine has been including a new Wanted Poster with each issue, but those have a different style, not coloured and with a somewhat burnt texture. They only have the Time Skip posters, and are still missing Franky, Brook, and Jinbei. Also, I'm not sure if Jinbe's Wanted Poster has officially been revealed yet.

I believe it was in his Vivre Card, but it absolutely wouldn't be an HQ pic

Thanks for the info! Though I thought for sure in the Tiger flash back we got a glimpse of Jimbei's 76 million. I suppose not.

Did Ace start hunting Blackbeard before or after Luffy got his first wanted poster?
I initially somehow got the impression that Ace started hunting Blackbeard awhile before Luffy left Foosha Village, but then in Chapter 557, I see that Ace had shown Luffy’s first wanted poster to Whitebeard.
This leads me to think that either Blackbeard had murdered down Thatch shortly after Luffy defeated Arlong, and would mean that that murder happened in between the Arlong Park Arc and the Drum Island Arc, or that Ace returned to Whitebeard’s ship after he dismissed the crew’s warnings about not going after Blackbeard to avenge Thatch.
Also another interesting point is how Blackbeard doesn’t recognize Luffy or is even initially willing to believe his 30 million bounty claim at Jaya, meaning that Blackbeard wasn’t around Ace when he was proudly talking about his brother’s bounty achievement.
-

He must have because of him sharing Luffy bounty with his crew.

Yeah, I'd say Tatch's murder happened shortly after that.
Ace said he'd return after he took down Teach, he wouldn't be chasing Blackbeard only to turn around a show a newspaper clip to his friends. Whitebeard probably wouldn't let him leave a second time.As for Teach not recognizing Luffy, even if Ace had already showed his wanted poster around, my head canon says it's because Teach never really cared about or belonged to WB's crew. He said he joined because he figured out it was his best chance to get the darkness fruit and then killed a sworn brother for it. Maybe he noticed Ace announcing his little brother got a bounty but didn't even bother to look at the paper.
Also, his comment about Luffy not being worth 30 million is because he knows Luffy is much stronger than that, he actually uses the word Haki/Ambition, but that didn't bear such weight back then so it flew under a lot of radars. He says something along the lines : Him? 30 million, with that ambition/haki? Nah, couldn't be.
When re-reading the series it's easy to see he meant: Nah, he couldn't have that bounty, he's much stronger! -
How did Kinemon, Kanjuro and Raizo plan to reach Zou after they time travelled and escaped from Wano? Was this ever mentioned? I am not sure they had a vivre card of Inu and Neko with them at that time?

It's implied they had (Kanjurou would also need to supply a vivre card to Orochi in order to Jack could reach Zou). But the logistics behind it were never explained.

Something I've wondered about: do we think Blackbeard was aware of Ace's lineage before their conflict?
Obviously Blackbeard's plan was to hand in some bigshot in exchange for Shichibukai status, and it seems clear he wanted Ace specifically – and of course Ace was an enormous win for the Marines, given his bloodline. But did Blackbeard know that Ace was Roger's son? He's obviously intelligent, and the significance wouldn't have been lost on him. But it's also generally unclear to what degree the WB Pirates knew who Ace's father was.

I feel only Whitebeard knew but there's no definite proof either way.

Uh… no. Blackbeard wanted pirates with more than 100m bounty, and his main target was Luffy (who he didn't know was Ace's brother). The only reason Blackbeard fought against Ace was because Ace himself was hunting Blackbeard.
And Blackbeard didn't know that Ace was Roger's son. There's no reason why Blackbeard could have made such a random deduction, especially considering Ace's birth happened more than a years after Roger's execution. The only way for Blackbeard to know that would be if Ace told him, which is unlikely considering that was a touchy subject for Ace, something that he tried to hide and even deny to himself. Ace only told his secret to Whitebeard, Sabo and Luffy.
-
Blackbeard only had a plan in the broadest sense, fate gave him the opportunities to fulfill it.
He never planned to kill a crewmate, he just searched for the yami yami no mi, and Tatch was unlucky enough to find it.
He was in search of powerful crewmates and had just gathered four, when a Shichibukai position was opened. So he planned to capture a random 100+ million belly pirate to become a Warlord.
He never wanted to capture Ace. He actually invited Ace to his crew.
He never knew Ace was the son of the Pirate King. But that fact made the WG want to execute Ace at all costs.
The war allowed him a chance to sneak into Impel Down. Again, to get more crewmates. He wouldn't have suceeded if not for Luffy's actions and Shiryu joining him. Most likely, Blackbeard's original plan was to acquire the fruit, leave Whitebeard's crew, get a powerful crew, and eventually return to challenge Whitebeard. His ultimate goal was sped up by events outside of his power, he was just ruthless, smart and lucky enough to seize every opportunity that appeared in his path..

Right! I had forgotten about the 100mil+ criterion, thanks for the reminder. :) I guess I wondered if the other WB pirates knew anything about Ace, but I went back to chapters 550-1, and the reveal about Ace's father happens before Whitebeard's crew actually surfaces – so we don't get to see their reaction to the news. Fate it is, then.

Question about the Concasse Sanji was using to save his family. As awesome as it was I do not the why he was donning backwards to prepare the attack. Usually he spins forward which makes sense cuz it would give him far more force… But backwards? First I thought it was simply I mistake but now OPTC used this animation as well.
So what sense does it make?

Hi everyone. I have one simple question and I want one simple and definitive answer from someone who really knows about the topic:
When is the series supposedly to be utterly complete so that everyone on planet Earth could finally enjoy the complete series? Thanks. -
Hi everyone. I have one simple question and I want one simple and definitive answer from someone who really knows about the topic:
When is the series supposedly to be utterly complete so that everyone on planet Earth could finally enjoy the complete series? Thanks. No one can answer that question for you, not even Oda. He seems to want to end it in 5 years, but just about everyone on this forum feels that such a time frame is completely impossible. The quickest I've seen anyone believe he can do it is in 7 years. With a seeming intention of finishing in 5 years, 10 seems like the most I can possibly imagine it continuing. This is based on comments Oda has made in SBS and other interviews over the last two or three years.

Can anyone remind me why Law decided to become a Warlord? Was it just to gain access to Punk Hazard or something?
-
@Johnny:
Can anyone remind me why Law decided to become a Warlord? Was it just to gain access to Punk Hazard or something?
I don't think we ever got an official reason for that one.
Potential reasons I can think of is information gathering. Warlords are bound to gain some new networks through the title and the pardon for himself and his crew would mean less interruptions. Gaining access to Punk Hazard wasn't one of those boons as the place is banned for everyone (in fact it was one of the points Smoker pressed when he encountered Law). But I don't doubt that learning about the island's existence and history - and by extension learning about Caesar - was something Law was only able to do because of his status as Warlord.
-
@Johnny:
Can anyone remind me why Law decided to become a Warlord? Was it just to gain access to Punk Hazard or something?
We indirectly got the reason why he valued the Warlord position when Punk Hazard was over and Law explained his plan to take down Doflamingo.
On the one hand we have Paradise, where a pirate simply can't operate once he/she passed a certain level of notoriety. Eventually you will be hunted down by the Admirals, unless you somehow manage to hide your presence. Certainly you wouldn't be able to strut around like Crocodile or Hancock. On the other hand we have the New World, where you also can't reasonably survive on your own unless one of the Yonkou takes you in (basically what happened to 1/2 of the Worst Gen).
Those are the two realistic options, unless you actually manage to become a Yonkou yourself (like Blackbeard).
Law's plan revolved around blackmailing Doflamingo out of his Warlord title, while inciting Kaido's wrath once he lost it (so one of the two major forces of the world would get him eventually).
He just didn't know that the WG was a lot more reluctant to remove Doflamingo's title. So the question is less why Law would pursue the Warlord title, because no rational pirate of that calibre would decline such an offer given the benefits.
-
I stumbled over something during my reread which incidentally answers the question. In chapter 681. Vergo states "He (Law) likely became one of the seven warlords just to get into that room (S.A.D. room)".
That still doesn't explain exactly how he used his title to get there, though I think Jabra's answer and my previous musings fills that in.
-
Personally, it felt like a waste to me. Since we see Law at Punk Hazard as a Warlord, then he like loses the position almost immediately next arc. XD
I feel like another Supernova could have benefitted more. Like Urogue, or Apoo (who is still secretly serving Kaido, the weasel). Alas.
