Oh, I just remembered there's those 'X person' chapter titles too.

I am still curious if we ever will get a numbered chapter title for Robin and Chopper.
Even more if Vivi should join.
The whole numbering would be wrong

Don't give her a number. Go with "the last person" or "the missing person" instead. Or be wacky with it because of Carue. (Similarly, if Jinbo is indeed the final, he could be "the last" rather than "the ninth person".)
If Doctor Who can can count War and 10 twice so that Doctor 11 is actually Doctor 13, then Oda can tweak some strawhats semantics.

Yeah could work.
And I would dance in joy seeing a last person title as the nakama thread can finally die and rot in hell

If there was a last person confirmation, we should try to invite back all the legends of the past for one final hurrah. Would be good to see ole Agog back for a day. Maybe even The Sea.

I am expecting Vivi to join the revolutionary army. She can still act as a Straw Hat representative.
In terms of a a new crew member. The best character there has been since Jimbe has been Tama. She has good points in terms of relationship with Luffy. So it's exciting to see how much her desire to be a ninja/pirate is developed during this arc. I am certain she will ascertain her worth during this confrontation. And to be honest, her surviving a war between Kaido, Big Mom and potentially the marines seems like good enough experience to oversee her age. Experience vs age concept. But, something is still missing. But she still has to learn about Luffy being Ace's brother. Which I am expecting to happen mid-confrontation.
Otherwise, I think that the new crew member will be brand new. And possibly, part of his deal is that he wants to prove himself to the Straw Hats (and the readers) that even though he joined late, he is ~truly~ a Straw Hat with a DON.
-
My hope is that Vivi will become the admiral of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Think about it, Luffy has gathered these people with his raw charisma, but doesn't really want to lead them himself. Vivi is a more experienced politician and figurehead, who has likely just had her chance to get on the throne she was meant for stripped away, and is already in contact with two of the five members of the fleet. She's the perfect person to unite the scattered captains and direct them to do whatever it is they need to do to make a massive incident. And being an official Straw Hat Fleet Admiral is a good way to balance her position as an honourary crew member with not wanting the main cast to get even more bloated and stuck for screen time.
-
Ma D. Monk is the final BB pirate. And he will fight luffy himself before the actual duel of bb pirates vs SHs. Same way luffy encountered burgess in dressrosa. Urouge will win.

If this becomes true, Sai preparing to leave his allied country would be a solid enough piece of evidence to back this up.
I disagree with this and think Vivi leading a possible non WG affiliated Alliance makes more sense. Whether the Revolutionary Army is involved or not would be interesting. There's the Nefertari fam that could've went to Marie Geoise. Also Wano and Germa as possibilities. Germa was talked about by the Revs after WCI arc as non affiliated. Wano is currently being left alone by Akainu's decision. Countries that suffer due to the WG's negligence and dealings. As we saw Orochi dealing with Cipher Pol and Marco saying that the lack of Heavenly Tribute has left Sphinx vulnerable like other places. Even Lulusia, as an allied country, suffers.
I see Vivi and the son's roles in this as two different things. One is a savior to the less fortunate/WG's negligence and the others. Vivi can be what the WG fails to be. The Fleet are trying to be an embodiment of the crew's principles. Both are spreading the SH liberation, but on different fronts. They can be, but don't have to be one entity.
-
My hope is we see Vivi as little as possible. Man was she annpying
-
Vivi, the 5.5th crew member sounds weird. And yea, that number is official from the sbs.
-
Don't hold your breath on the 'Xth Person' chap titles. It might be addressed someday but I'm not currently expecting it to be.

Does Pedro join the crew?
-
Too soon man, too soon.
-
If one's joining right now after Jinbei is Carrot or Tama. Although with the final chapter revealing Shanks and Buggy's discussion about Laugh Tale, considering Shanks for reasons wont be allowed to go by the EoS i am positive that Buggy, trying to flee from the chase of the Marines will somehow hide under the Straw Hat umbrella. I Think Buggy has been getting a lot of character development since Impel Down and this has to lead to something. Although it is strongly tied to the fate of Shanks.

For the longest time I was expecting the giant girl who hung around Big Mom to be the final member because a giant seems to be notably missing in the crew and it would contrast nicely with Big Mom. And she'd have the shrink shrink fruit or something like that so she'd fit through the doors (suck it Jimbei) and that's the kind of fruit female characters in One Piece have.
But then I was rereading the chapters in the volumes I got for Christmas and somehow I completely missed her being in Hajrudin's crew grrrrr.

There's already a filler character, who is also a female giant, with that exact ability lol

What about a giant with dwarfism?

What kind of crazy awesome cover are we gonna get for the 1000th chapter?
EDIT: Also do you think we'll get to see the other members of Rocks crew?
-
What kind of crazy awesome cover are we gonna get for the 1000th chapter?
We might not get one at all. They have to schedule and print the color pages a couple weeks earlier in advance, and Oda's regular breaks make it harder to know when he'll actually hit that point. Might get one for the 1001 or 1002 chapter instead.
Happens all the time in Jump…because they're weekly serials hitting chapter 50 or 100, while still a milestone, isn't as big a deal as in a monthly american comic where that means 4 or 8 years of continuous publication. They tend to put more focus on the one year anniversary rather than a specific chapter so often its like, chapter 102 that gets a color spread. (Often tying into a popularity poll or anime announcement)
That said, 1000 IS a big deal so maybe they've planned it a little better than usual.
-
Probably have one for 1000th. It's the final chap of series that don't usually get covers.

Yep, the only two that bucked that trend was Slam Dunk and Koichikame

Didn't Naruto have color pages for its final chapter?
EDIT: Oh wait, people are talking about the actual magazine cover, not the title page of the chapter itself.
-
I think Dragon Ball had it too but they are very few ones. Anyway I have no doubt One Piece will have it since it has it every time it has a color spread
-
Greg did you always think that Joy Boy would be so much important ? Also do you think we’ll be getting Kaidos origins in this flashback or he’ll get a separate one ala Big Mom, like 2-3 chapters tops ?
-
Am I the only one who thought when Garp said the Rox pirates would come back someday and create chaos again that he was talking about the other members outside of just Big Mom and Kaido? Now when I reread it, it just seems like foreshadowing of Big Mom and Kaido teaming up
I was really looking forward to a new super power we hadn’t heard of yet, the return of Rox and his crew, or just his crew without WB, BM, Kaido, and GS but all the other insanely strong members

Well who knows. Maybe Kaido and Big Mom will try to get the old gang back depending on how exactly Wano goes.

That would be nice but I’m pretty sure Kaido’s going down this arc and Big Mom will be a secondary villain in Elbaf
Still would be nice to see some of the remnants of Rox pirates show up at some point

I wondered about the captain for some time, but even then it was clear Garp was talking about just them. At best I thought their old captain might be in Wano, but even then I wasn't a fan of it as it'd take away from Kaido and feel random, unlike with Big Mom who has been setup in parallel alongside Kaido to be taken down.
-

I don't think bm will be secondary villain to loki in elbaf. Didn't Hajrudin say he wants to be king of elbaf? Then it makes sense for him to be the one that beats Loki the present king, while luffy will get BM. So loki will be secondary, same way orochi is secondary villain in wano, even if he is the samurai daimyo from wano.
-
Still would be nice to see some of the remnants of Rox pirates show up at some point
Depending on what the anniversary is they talked about it still could happen.
-
Maybe the Rox crew had more people that are now above the Yonko Commander level but not quite at the level of the Yonkos. It could be used to add more enemies between Wano and the point where luffy beats an Yonko alone.

This is what I’m hoping for, I mean we need a few more unknown villains who can still be considered threats
but for some crew to just come out of the blue that we’ve never heard of before and fight Luffy who’s now considered an Emperor the only option I can see that makes any sense are the level 6 prisoners and the Rox pirates
Also what do you guys think the last two species that Big Mom doesn’t have on tot land, she said there were three technically but we know one of them is giants
Seeing as how Oda already has dwarves and giants I wouldn’t be to surprised if there were elves too or maybe Fairies, what do you guys think?
Maybe Vegapunk is some new super smart species I mean the guys silhouette is really really weird, now I’m just spit balling

The 2nd one is Skypeians I'm pretty sure. Not a single one to be found during that arc.

I guess he does have the wings, but why make his race seem so mysterious if it was just gonna be something we’ve already seen before

Huh, I wasn't saying that's what King's race was. I'm saying it's Giants, Skypeians, and whatever the hell King is.

King is a Karura in Japanese, Garuda in Hindi.

Do real life japenese people name usually have meaning? I feel like 90% of anime/manga characters have a pun or meaning and I wonder if its a normal thing irl or if its like how american comics having literal names but not so much irl.
-
i think most do so since it is often written with Kanji which have a meaning. They always said it is written with the kanji X and kanji Y. Some have them written in kana though.
But I think our brain easily abstract it has a signification. When someone name is a real word, I don't think to that word when i talk to him. Except at school when kids try to mock other people names all the time
-
Most names used to have meaning attached to them. You just need to do some research to find it, because, unlike kanji, latin characters don't have any inherent meaning attached to them, so they've kinda been forgotten by now.
-
Think about surnames like Smith and given names like Peter. And that's just Anglo-saxon names, but I believe multiple, if not all, languages have those. Heck, you can give people names of flowers and animals sometimes and no one really seems to mind.

Peter is interesting because the initial stone meaning that you find in the bible pun made by Jesus, when he names Simon Peter, is lost in English (and in Hungerian) but is kept in French ( une pierre means a stone )

I know i already quoted this post yesterday, but now i will be even more detailed. I think its a very interesting scenario because,if Kaido and Big Mom would lose in Wano,i dont think they will die,so whats left for them? The only way for them to 'redeem' themselves after that humiliation, would be to find the One Piece, and doing it making returning the most powerful crew ever (this could also be a meta-satyrical joke on the revivals mania? lol). Of course they lost Whitebeard, but Weevil can take his place. His mother apparently was part of the crew too. They would only miss Rocks at that point, and Shakky. But there are also other people who might be still alive and they can recruit them again. I dont know, maybe this sounds too fan-fictional,or a plot for a movie more than a manga plot, but it sounds interesting anyway.

As far as i know, they even explain how to write their names with the meanings of the character

To be fair, I think kanjis in name have their own specific reading which you do not find in common words.
-

Yeah, names basically always mean something. Be it "second son" or "cherry blossom" or "sky", they mean something. Just how the language works.
Doesn't mean they're literally being called those things, but its how it works.
But so do English names, we just usually don't look those up and have it pointed out. i mean, take the name Robert. It comes from the Germanic name Hrodebert meaning "bright fame", derived from the Germanic elements hrod "fame" and beraht "bright". But I'm never going to say to anyone "Yeah, my name is Robby. It means bright fame." Or, if I was more religiously inclined, I could say it means "God is my judge" in Hebrew. It's there, it has that meaning, but its also just a name.
-
Yep, even Western names have meanings in their roots, i am the "benevolent and merciful one"
-
In Japan choosing the kanji for your child's name is usually very important. All kanji have meaning but for given names the reading is usually a bit different than the normal way you read that kanji.
Also there are some cases where the parent has trouble choosing kanji they like and they give their child (usually a girl) a hiragana name because it is different, has a cleaner/less busy look to it. 彩香 (kanji) vs あやか (hiragana).
I knew one couple who named their daughter after both of themselves. They took the "yuki" from his name and the "mi" from her name to make the name "Yukimi" and they used hiragana because they couldn't find any kanji they liked. The mom didn't like the kanji in her own name very much.
