Nah but part of me still wonders if Oda is gonna have her be hidden somewhere or catch up to join. This is not because I have a desire for her to join. I just think there was a logical argument for her to join based on Oda's own fancies and the proximity to the end.

Or she could go try to rule over Zou for now, hate the experience, then see Zou die in the final war and join the crew post-series.

I never felt like she was meant to be a nakama on the voyage to the One Piece but having her as part of a larger crew of the Pirate King feels natural.

What if Luffy loses his awakening again and then needs a whole new arc to figure out how it works and how to activate it on command.

I think it's a general point in OP that people decide whether their bad experiences shape them one way or another. A different example is in Fishmen Island: Arlong, Hodi, Jinbe, Fisher Tiger and Otohime all experienced racism and chose to deal it in different ways, with varying levels of goodness and evilness.

Orochi could have tried to make something better out of it. Instead he decided to stage the world's biggest and most elaborate torture session, by making an entire country suffer as much as possible for decades.

That might be head canon for many of us (it was for me) but going back to his exposition chap (from what I read) he only used a term for jail, not the name of ID or even 'undersea prison'.

That doesn't mean it wasn't ID. But if Oda wanted to make it easy to connect, he didn't.

Maybe it's just a random prison because he managed to get out and nobody ever got out from Impel Down before Luffy broke in.

@greg you've talked about a theory you have that some people like Law and Luffy got a piece of the powers from Rocinante and Ace.Do you think the devil fruit themselves may also keep something from their past users? Like the Mera Mera could make Sabo become more like Ace (if they weren't already similar).I don't know how to properly explain what I mean but I think maybe there's something there in this direction.

Greg, do you think there's any connection between Luffy becoming JoyBoy after dying in an epic fight and Kaido chasing an epic death for himself?

There's a lot of stuff to fight and a lot of items to collect. There's not much else but it never feels like there's not enough.
