Yeah I spotted that as well, even Iceburg apparenty heard Merry's voice.
But wow, the SH's are so broken at the end of this arc. So much more than at the end of any other before.

Luffy having the same crying expression Robin had when she said she wanted to live… Priceless.
Also... Luffy shouldn't be up yet O-o; He was out for like 3 days after his fight with Crocodile.
I don't see a translation yet so if there's a demand I can do a quick one right now and post it at the translation section.

There is always a demand. ALWAYS. :ninja:
lol, okay.
But I'm at work right now so if there's a word that I have to research through I'm gonna have to skip it for now and fill it in later when I go back home.
If that's okay, then I'll work on it.

We'd love you forever. With this chapter? Definitely demand (like there isn't always). Thanks x100 in advance!
…I never believed that I would ever care so much for a boat.:sad:
This chapter was fantastic.
OMFG so sad !! T___T
lol, ocean, did you change the topic ? 降り注ぐ seems a little stronger than just 'falls'
T_________________________T
Edit: WOW. Carly your avatar is scary!!!!
You people need to be sadder, try reading the chapter again…but this time read it while listening to the "Dear Friends" ending.
Im not sad that the gm is dead i always hated it but i will have to admit if i didn't hate the merry go i would most likly be sad. I can't wait until the anime shows it.
Holy shit. Thanks BF. Iceburg looked like he was going nuts when he heard Merry's voice.
But but but but. This was…. This chap was. It wasn't even awesome. It was more than that. Argh. I don't know what to say. Sanji, Robin and Zoro are, and will always be, the most coolest persons in these kind of situations. The expressions killed me. Too beautiful x___X
wow! this is sooooo beautiful and poetic! You guys should try to read this chapter with "fly fly merry" as your background music. It's a tear jerker.
here's the best i could do with the chapter title. ^^v
"the lightly falling snows of rememberance"
ooshi78
The way the snow fell reminds me of the death of haku and Zabuza in naruto
God that was the saddest moment of all One Piece. An emotional goodbye of Merry :sad:
Now is wait for a translation. I wanna mostly to read about the scene where Iceburg re-builds Merry, because that scene is so great.
translation for null scanlation

That's weird, because I was doing the same thing, too!
From the Null Translation:
! Luffy: It's us that have to apologize, Merry!!! I'm not good at navigating, so I hit you to iceberg!! I even ripped the sail sometime–-!! Zoro and Sanji are idiots so they broke many things, too!!
Usopp fixed you whenever, but he wasn't good at it, either!!! It's us that should apologize you...
Merry: But I was happy.
God damn you Oda for writing such tear jerker for a chapter.
Luffy: Like I said, that was the Merry's voice!! Right, Merry!? Say something!!
hey, even someone who as cool as me cries sometimes. thanx metal and null for the translation. so long merry go round, next ship, roller coaster. :D
… Yeah... I cried for this chapter.
The end is so emotional.
"Merry: But I was happy"
;_; so.... sad.
Wow, Metal, thank you :)
After reading the translation..that was probably the saddest chapter of One Piece to date. Can't stop listening to "Dear Friends".
The cover page says something about "One Piece the movie", is that some new info regarding the next movie?
The cover page says something about "One Piece the movie", is that some new info regarding the next movie?
Nope, it's for the comic book version of Movie 7, which will be released on November 2nd.
Saddest chapter ever.
Merry: "But I was happy."
That made me shed a tear.
RIP Going Merry…...
it's been a long ride from East Blue,
an unforgettable journery with the mugiwaras!
:)
Going Marry has finally died and Oda broke the Pell desease. Finally Oda has done it, they give proper burial and Going Marry was happy. Time to die Going Marry.
I am delightful and very shaken because of this chapter.. finally Oda pulls some strings together and Merry is going down the hill.. err ocean.. This chapter was the saddest in One Piece history.. and so it was also one of the most wonderfull ones. We'll see how Usopp is going to think about the new ship, which they'll get, inevitably
Here's a theory. What if Iceburg gives the Strawhats the Galley-La ship? It's freakin' huge!
If that's the case, we maybe never will get the answer, what Franky has done with the 200 mill. ;-P
Who know's ? But I think, that it's not very possible.. I can't imagine that the mugiwara-pirates would have such a bond to a simple galley-la ship, like to something which was possibly built by Franky, with their own stolen money.. (lol.. but that's only possible if franky has built an SHIP with their money)
Oh my goodness….this chapter made me cry like a baby the whole thing through. I don't think I cried that much reading/watching One Piece before ever. ;;____________;;
Thanks for the chapter so early (to the powers that be and for all the translating and stuff.
Can't believe Usopp and Luffy still aren't making up, good golly.
That is definately one of my favourite chapters now.
I cried on the last page during the translation….....it's so sad.
Why the fuck am I crying over an inanimate object? ;_;
~bye bye merry go. a true loss to the SH crew.
That was just an amazing chapter. Merry flat out talked to everyone. Such a great ending to an amazing saga.
I'm amazed by the number of people who seem to think this is "the saddest chapter ever!!!" , I got teary eyed a few times reading One Piece (Chopper leaving Drum, Robin finding her mother only to lose her again a moment after) but this… It's a fucking crumbling boat that got torched. The fact it started to magically speak to its human fiends during the last couple of chapters isn't enough for me to feel anything else than relief. We can finally move on to bigger and better things.
Why the fuck am I crying over an inanimate object? ;_;
Speaking of inanimate objects, it reminds me of
commercialGood bye Merry, rest in peace…
Greatest. Manga. Ever.
Thank goodness! It's sad and all,but I would've been really annoyed if Merry hadn't 'passed on.'

hahaha that vid was funny… doesnt quite convey the same feelings as we get with the end of the chapter tho...

I guess the crew reaction is more touching than Merry's death itself. Well, for me at least.
Why the fuck am I crying over an inanimate object?
Because it's as real as any other thing in a comic book? Just ink strokes in a paper - just like Luffy and the crew.
I'm so going to miss Merry. I love that boat.
wow… just wow... im not sure what to say here... it's a shame that Merry has to go... look at this, Oda finally kills something for good and Im' all sad wishing it wasn't true XD
At first I was mad that Luffy was burning it, but I understand, it's better than letting it sit at the bottom of the sea being completely misserable and lonley and crying ;__;
sad chapter, not the saddest as some said, I still cry whenever I read Robin's story... but this really touched me. "but I was happy".. ;_;
Farewell Merry, and thank you...
At first I was mad that Luffy was burning it, but I understand, it's better than letting it sit at the bottom of the sea being completely misserable and lonley and crying ;__;
They should have fed it to starving beavers so that it'd suffer till the very end, the useless piece of crap, with Usopp tied up and forced to watch.
Holy Shit Its Already Out! Thx Bf!
Why the fuck am I crying over an inanimate object? ;_;
Well, if you think about it, Going Merry despite being inanimate has done a lot for the crew. It's never sunk too quickly to repair, it's outrun all the enemy ships they've run into, and it saved them in Enies Lobby.
It's kind of like "Full Metal Jacket," "there are many like it, but this one is mine!" You see, if an object has been with you through tough times, you may develop certain feelings for it…though I don't think that was the point in that FMJ scene...
It's sort of like this Gameboy I got for my birthday. All the games I have for it suck. Yet, the fact that it's a birthday present makes me like it regardless.
Or, think of Merry as a big sextoy. Now, if you're really lonely, and this thing really works, then you may get attached to it, right? Well, in this case, the Going Merry is like Strawhat's losing a vibrator and feeling sorry for it–even though they are getting a bigger, better one later.
Um...yeah. Anyway, it also helps how the scene was done. Fire and snowflakes work wonders.
Damn Aldrich, that was harsh, LOL
Me personally, Good chapter, even tho I didn't really feel anything when Merry was killed (they burned it), as it is an inanimate object. Does that make me a bad person?
Why the fuck am I crying over an inanimate object? ;_;
I have to ask myself the same thing. I've never felt even close to something like crying before over a book, movie, story, anything, but I was darn close this time.
I'm sorry Oda; you're just too darn good at this. XD
Where's Pandaman? I didn't see him.

I more or less agree. I think it's sad, and I can sort of get why people cry over it. Oda wanted to make the ship out to be like one of the crew, but… to me, it's still just a boat.
I thought it was a good chapter, and good closure to the whole Merry thing, but I wish Usopp would quit pretending to be a super hero, and I just can't wait for what will happen next.
They should have fed it to starving beavers so that it'd suffer till the very end, the useless piece of crap, with Usopp tied up and forced to watch.
This made me laugh, though.
