Oh really?… Welp I learned a thing. Still gonna watch their final exchange but there's no way it'll beat this episode.

RE: 870: "The Blazing-Fast Fist - Activating Gear Fourth's New Form!
Okay got home from work and watched the full episode…
holy shit.
In all honesty, I can't really think of anything I didn't like. I'm very impressed. The Luffy vs Katakuri part followed the manga exactly as far as I can tell. There wasn't a ton of filler of them just staring at each other, or Luffy getting beaten down. It was actually faithful to the manga! Luffy's training wasn't the more exciting thing but I always enjoy the flashbacks of him and Raleigh. Even the part with Sanji and Pudding was alright, cause yeah I guess it makes sense we have to know how they landed.
And King Cobra. God damn. I LOVED IT! This is the first time post timeskip that I'd say the anime was better than the manga with a finisher from Luffy. The way his fist turned into a literal cobra and screamed was epic. I mean I know it was symbolic but damn, what an awesome touch. And it wasn't drawn out or a pushing contest or anything. I also like that Luffy's Cobra hit first... that's the way I always imagined it happened... that's why Katakuri couldn't finish his attack and his arm just sorta fell on Luffy.
But okay yeah, totally lived up to the hype. They really nailed it for once. I don't know who all the animators are as I don't always watch the anime, but I'd say they all did a great job. Of course now that the animation budget was used up on this episode, I'm sure the next few will be kinda eh but... oh well. Definitely worth the wait

RE: 869: ''Awaken - The Color of Observation That Surpasses the Strongest!''
I still think it's weird (and i just never noticed it before) that Luffy can stay in 4th Gear so long. I always assumed it'd be used up in a few minutes but maybe with Snakeman he can keep the form longer? I guess that's the case… I wonder how long he can hold Tankman for.
I would however, expect a final Rayleigh flashback that will be anime only.
Probably… I mean they'll have to pad the time out sometime and this would be the best way to do it.

Whoa his arms are all red? That's kinda weird, but not a big deal.

RE: 869: ''Awaken - The Color of Observation That Surpasses the Strongest!''
Something I really like that the anime is doing, is how it's showing Luffy's observation Haki progressing. Such as initially Luffy would just see a light in the direction of whatever attack was coming, but now he can see Katakuri fully formed. He can't see what's going on around him yet, but I think that's a nice touch for the anime.
I'm still concerned about next week as what happens in the manga probably happened in like 5 minutes and they're making a 22 minute episode (I guess more like 17 after opening and theme song) about it. This makes me think there will be a lot of shots of Luffy and Katakuri just staring at each other or that they'll add a bunch of ridiculous filler of Luffy getting beaten down and struggling to get back up (as they have been)
I'm hoping for the best though. This week looked amazing and thus far I'm pleased with how the anime has handled this. … I just don't have complete faith that they'll get it right but, as I said, here's hoping
EDIT
wait I guess with the clocks we see it takes like 20 minutes... but can Luffy stay in 4th Gear that long? -
RE: General Anime Discussion Thread
Honestly I never saw any ambiguity in the manga.
! Both of them got bopped by the other's final attack, both of them managed to get back up, but only one of them was able to continue standing after that.
Ah, you're right, I guess what i mean is, I wouldn't want Toei to actually animate that and I want them to leave it how it was in the manga.
! just an explosion and the aftermath
Dang, Captain Krupp, that makes me remember of back when I used to love Bellamy so much. Anyone remember that? I made like 10 Bellamy topics and pissed everyone off?… good times, good times

RE: General Anime Discussion Thread
I'm not sure where to put this so I'll try here.
I have concerns.
So far Toei has done a pretty damn good job with Luffy vs Katakuri. There's been some filler I didn't like so much and some dragged out moments, but overall they've done the fight well.
My concern is about Snakeman. Given Toei's history of fucking up every Luffy finale since the Time Skip (Making him struggle against Hodi, making him struggle against CAESAR of all people, and the pushing match with him vs Doflamingo) I'm really worried they're going to fuck it up somehow. Or they'll try to animate the final blow instead of leaving it ambiguous. Or we're going to see some kind of pushing match that wasn't there.
Idk what do you guys think, do you think Toei is gonna mess this one up too or do you think they'll do it justice? It's just so hard to tell with them sometimes

RE: 856: ''The Forbidden Secret! Katakuri's Merienda''
I'm so used to be disappointed in the anime but this actually surpassed my expectations. First off the pacing was spot on. There wasn't this "look at every character's expression after one of them talks" thing going on. And holy shit, the animation. The animation was top notch. I love how they animated Luffy kicking Katakuri. You could tell just how important it was, and the filler afterwards of Luffy dodging the attacks was quite fitting.
I only have two minor complaints.
1. I wish they'd stop using the same animation when Luffy goes gear 4th. Mix it up a bit.
2. There HAS to be some other kind of filler they can do besides Luffy getting knocked around, and then falling to the ground and struggling to get up. There has to be, and I wish they'd use it.But damn that Kong Gun was satisfying to watch. I'm actually looking forward to next week.
