@Greg:
Wolfwood,
RD: Demeaning joke.
Greg: RD, that might be amusing to you but it rubs me the wrong way. I'd prefer if you didn't say that.
RD: Sure thing!
two months
RD: Exactly the same demeaning joke.
Greg: I asked you kindly before. I was serious. Please stop.
RD: Gotcha, buddy!
one year
RD: Exactly the same demeaning joke.
Greg: I won't ask again. Stop.
RD: You got it!
two years
RD: Exactly the same demeaning joke.
Greg: Okay, that's enough.
Yeah I admit I did say it more than once even after you asked me not to, and if I'm being honest, almost every time you came up with some amazing observation I just completely forgot about our talk and just jumped into the moment.
Greg gets on the VS TV show and is made One Piece famous.
Me: That's my boy! Taught him everything he knows!
This happens about 3 times until he told me he had enough.
Back in the Punk Hazard days Greg makes the potential connection to Monet and outer space. All that Astro, Monet the artist, swirly glasses and Night blew my mind!
Me: something to the affect of "You stole that from my official Shueisha column that was approved by Oda himself! Seriously thats amazing, how do you keep finding these things?!"
The stole part can bring on some serious unwanted business so I did erase it at your request but I'm getting the feeling you think I was dead serious when I said it or had some ill intentions in mind.
I enjoy jokingly associating myself with greatness especially if it has nothing to do with my profession or skill set. The way you analyze stories and such just boggles my mind. It's kind of like Monkey King and all his historical facts. He's not always my favorite person but it does intrigue me at the knowledge he seems to have at the tip of his mind at a moments notice. In fact I did the same thing with Monkey King of all people and almost expected a stern talking to, then I remembered that when I do say these things I keep it extremely obvious that I am joking.
The last straw was when your article talked about Jinbe and I was just happy you were talking about him at all!
You said this Greg:
If this is any indication of crew positions that need filling, the Straw hats (desperately) need a helmsman. It can be argued that Oda-sensei considers this a valid full-time crew position since it Jesus Burgess of the Blackbeard pirates filled said role when he travelled on a single ship with Teach. Thinking back on characters that have filled such a role, Jinbei famously took the helm of a Marine HQ battleship.
Shows picture of Jinbe at the helm.
No small task! Does this mean…!?
I said in response :
@RomanceDawn:
Ahhhh, Greg hinting that Jimbei could end up being the Straw Hat's helmsman. All is right in the world. It's been like 50 years and I'm sure no one remembers but me but that booty dance is coming. And what about that curly eyebrow'd card Luffy played? It certainly looks Vinsmoke related but do you have any insight?
Like seriously what did I say?! You don't like talking about future crew mates since you work so close to the source but what is anyone supposed to infer with what you posted in your column? The back and forth with Brennen used to be spectacular and your word has always carried a lot of weight. I still remember mid to late Marineford you threw out the possibility of Jinbe dying.
Is it the booty dance? About 3 or 4 years ago I said if Jinbe joins the crew I'd booty dance in front of Greg? I only said it because you didn't seem to like Jinbe back then. I don't even know what the boot dance is, just heard it on the Boondocks.
Me demeaning? I don't know. I don't even curse unless its in a script. Though there was a time where a Jerk Disease was spreading and I caught some for a minute but that was a total of like 3 seconds before I snapped out of it.
I'd like to think I'm a nice, reasonable, handsome man. Maybe through text you applied a certain demeaning tone where there was none. I'd like to think though that after all those years that we talked privately about One Piece and life in general my jokes in public were clearly understood.
