Just like last year I'm going to note that the chapter when Gin appeared for the last time was chapter 68 - released exactly 17 years ago, which would make his comeback (by far!) the most awaited one in the whole One Piece. The funniest part is that probably most of the readers (out of the ones who still remember him :ninja:) still believe he'll return one day, and for a good reason they do!

I can see him in Buggy's group. Sabertooth Tiger and those tonfas with iron balls just don't mix well.
One little thing that I love is how influential the Yonkou are in the New World. From Fishman Island right up until Zou the Yonkou have played a big role without ever being directly involved so far. We saw Big Mom's control over Fishman Island. Then we saw Caesar on Punk Hazard who was tied in with Doflamingo who was tied in with Kaidou, forming one large plotline. On Dressrosa we saw Burgess who wanted the Mera Mera; even though BB has no control over Dressrosa, he still exerted some influence there. We even got Big Mom's ship near Dressrosa, who also wanted to capture Caesar. Now on Zou we have Jack who is one of Kaidou's top commanders. Wano will also be intricately tied to the Yonkou.
We got exactly what we've been promised: the Yonkou determine everything that happens. At the same time, it does not overdetermine the story to the point where it becomes too much. I love exactly the amount of influence we've been seeing and the tension this creates in the New World.

I always saw that jacket as more of a hint of his personality, akin to the 'swirly poo' image on Kuro's jacket implied he's full of shit.

First of all, in face of "new evidences", I'm gonna agree with what was shown a couple of posts ago, the guy Doffy was talking to was Spandam. And as you said, the guy seems to be a scared of Doffy's menacing words. Classic Spandam, bark loud then shit his pants.
This should also give you hope for the power of the CP0 since Spandam is not their leader, he now ranks below Lucci. He's clearly just a guy with some brains and smooth talk, every political and military groups have them.
Btw, I checked the anime scene to see if they gave the guy the same voice as Spandam but they did not. In the anime they actually showed part of it's face but manga version rules supreme so we can ignore that.
I was hoping for a small detail, like in the flash-back of Buggy and Shanks that showed Rayleigh, more than 10 years before he appeared in Sabaody, and Oda told the anime team that he was not the captain. Alas, no such luck.
Now for the rest, I did not recall that the CP0 answered directly to the Celestial Dragons. The ranks betwen the WG and the Celestial Dragons is still a bit unclear sometimes, the WG was formed by those who became the Celestial Dragons but it seems the Dragons still have a random buttload of power and are not always idiots like Saint Charles and such.
Still, from what I understood the CP0 do not have authority, they are only a tool/intervention team for the Celestials Dragons, who hold the real authority. The same way the other Cypher Pols don't have more authority than the Marines, they simply are a tool/intervention team of WG outside the Navy for more private missions.
So for now I'm gonna settle in "Doffy was talking to Spandam" and wait to see what's really up with the CP0 and the higher ranks of the WG and Mariejoe.
And if you do come up with anything more on this please do share, your posts where well written and researched, good stuff to get me thinking about the series.

After thinking this matter through, I reached a different conclusion. I do not think CP0 are higher than the WG. Sakazuki's words were merely spiteful expression because he felt that his reputation was being besmirched.
I think 'higher up' refers to the Celestial Dragons. Furthermore, if you have noticed, when Sakazuki said that the matter was carried out above their heads, they found his words offending.
Why would they find his words offending if he was merely stating the truth? Were they sensitive to the truth or was it because Sakazuki was acrimoniously ridiculing them because they allowed the publication of the false report? I will go with the latter for now.
The WG is an enormous organization that should not be underestimated. It represents the unity of more than 170 countries in the One-Piece world.

Notice that Doflamingo says that the families of the creators (the Celestial Dragons) reside in Mariejois 'reigning' over this world. This tells us a little more about their relation to the WG.
Concerning the reason why the CP0 have the government symbol on their ship, it is unknown to us why that is the case. However, it was stated that they take orders ONLY from the Celestial Dragons. This excludes everyone (including the five elders of the World Government) except the Celestial Dragons. This is why I told you it was independent of the Government.
In regard to the Government symbol, it appears that even the Celestial Dragons, who are above the WG, carry the symbol of the World Government on their ships.

His epithet seems to be associated with 'death'. I do not think it is connected with haki because there is nothing yet that could create that connection. I'm afraid anything else I say about this will be pure conjecture.
First of all, in face of "new evidences", I'm gonna agree with what was shown a couple of posts ago, the guy Doffy was talking to was Spandam. And as you said, the guy seems to be a scared of Doffy's menacing words. Classic Spandam, bark loud then shit his pants.
This should also give you hope for the power of the CP0 since Spandam is not their leader, he now ranks below Lucci. He's clearly just a guy with some brains and smooth talk, every political and military groups have them.
Btw, I checked the anime scene to see if they gave the guy the same voice as Spandam but they did not. In the anime they actually showed part of it's face but manga version rules supreme so we can ignore that.
I was hoping for a small detail, like in the flash-back of Buggy and Shanks that showed Rayleigh, more than 10 years before he appeared in Sabaody, and Oda told the anime team that he was not the captain. Alas, no such luck.Now for the rest, I did not recall that the CP0 answered directly to the Celestial Dragons. The ranks betwen the WG and the Celestial Dragons is still a bit unclear sometimes, the WG was formed by those who became the Celestial Dragons but it seems the Dragons still have a random buttload of power and are not always idiots like Saint Charles and such.
Still, from what I understood the CP0 do not have authority, they are only a tool/intervention team for the Celestials Dragons, who hold the real authority. The same way the other Cypher Pols don't have more authority than the Marines, they simply are a tool/intervention team of WG outside the Navy for more private missions.So for now I'm gonna settle in "Doffy was talking to Spandam" and wait to see what's really up with the CP0 and the higher ranks of the WG and Mariejoe.
And if you do come up with anything more on this please do share, your posts where well written and researched, good stuff to get me thinking about the series.Btw, another thing I though while checking some stuff for this posts.
Rayleigh is called the Dark King and he was the one who taught Luffy how to use haki, could it be that he was called the Dark King because of his mastery over haki? I guess it would be something akin to Vergo but much stronger.

When Doflamingo set his plan in motion 10 years ago, Scarlett left Rebecca under a lone tree in Flower Field to search for food; that was the last time until present day that Rebecca saw either of her parents in human form. Furthermore, in both instances Rebecca is told to wait under the tree until her parent returns. The tree of flowers helps to connect the two scenes and underscore that her parent has finally returned for her in a full capacity.

That's an interesting observation. I hadn't read it that way previously.
Don't know where or when I was talking about this but I just want to point out that Fukaboshi did not give Luffy the Green light to physically destroy Fishman Island. When he asked Luffy to bring Fishman Island back to nothing/zero that was the impression we were given especially after a year of Sharly's prediction in our minds but it wasn't the case.
The very page that Luffy asks Jinbe to join the crew during the blood transfusion, Fukaboshi tearfully says "This is the nothing from which we start anew…"
Just in case folks thought otherwise.

I think I have second thoughts concerning the idea that CP0 has higher authority than the WG.
Being a personal unit of the the nobility isn't the same thing as having higher authority than the WG. These are completely different concepts.
Just to chip in my two cents, I find it a bit curious that CP0 are implictly described as the Celestial Dragon's private CP, rather then for the Gorosei, who would seem to have a far higher use for them then the CD.

Maybe they're sorta mercenaries rather than straight up official government employees.
I don't think it would be very hard for the Dragons to pay the fees of such a group, especially if it's some collectively owned outfit.

The Gorousei probably already have sufficient control over the Marines and all the other CPs. And even though the CDs are suggested to have influence on the Gorousei, they probably wanted their own little thing.

When they first showed up, I thought they would be made up of slaves trained to be their guards, akin to the Jannissaries, but I suppose Lucci being a member now put the kibosh on that.
The whole Jannissary/Mameluke concept still kinda hurts my head even if I technically understand it. Probably my being American and all the mental associations built on "slavery" we have.
The Japanese never had nothing like that either so I wouldn't count on Oda using it.
In the cover page for the 17th anniversary (thanks to redon): Brook's cologne is brand "Terror", Usopp's is brand Sogeking, Nami uses No. 3 Channel, one of Robin's jars looks like it's Dove, and Franky's gel is "Man" brand.

The first two color pics I can find of her he didn't really color anything in her pupils. Then by Volume 24 when she joins it's definitely brown.
Either way Oda never said she was Russian. He just mentioned countries whose Japanese stereotypes in some regard reminded him of the characters. This included him picking Austria for Brooke basically entirely as a Mozart joke as far as I can tell.
And Japanese stereotypes for Russians tend to be pretty flattering compared to ours in the west I guess (though I guess she has a passing resemblance to an attractive Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle lol).
Her eyes being brown is the least of her Russian issues anyway, natural jet black hair is rare as crap in Russia (unless someone's got Asian nomad/Caucasus ancestry or something). Russians are pretty damn light haired on average.
