Hachi… I didn't hear about it much, but let me go read the first two chapters.

Read the first two chapters of Hachi. It's okay, I guess. Didn't fall in love with it. I like how to main character is this silly, small creature while transformed, but it feels like something's missing.
-
Get in the
Evatitancerberus,ShinjiErenHachi.Joking aside, I thought this series felt a lot like Tokyo ESP, with a Hachiko twist. It's refreshing to have a MC who isn't afraid of killing (or from what I saw, at least seems to have gotten over his hesitation of transforming by the end of chapter 2).
-
I'm really enjoying Hachi, Nishi's still got it.

Story takes a big turn at chapter 3, making you realize the first chapters were nothing but a prologue.
! already a time skip

@ZK: Wasn´t Toriko a bimonthly volume release? Or is it because we got two voolumes in two months?

Maybe that's the reason. I have no idea.

Good news (at least for me since I wished it), WSJ Alpha is picking up Owari no Seraph.

I'm sure it's a quality series, but I'd much rather they'd have picked an actual weekly series. I mean, with Jaco going and One Punch man pretty much caught up at this point, this'll make about 1/3 of the English WEEKLY shonen jump series that aren't weekly. It's even more annoying when one of the weekly series is DB which I could easily just buy volumes for since it's been finished and out for years

Wait I'm not really knowledgeable about WSJ Alpha (since the people behind it want nothing to do with me and my non-American brethren) but….they fill up the "magazine" with a series that's been completed since 1995, and is one of the most universally availible manga titles out there, if not the most ubiquitous ?
Then again didn't the american Jump staff when they still did the printed magazine decide to pick up Metallica Metalluca ? Aka the series like four people on here will remember at most ?

Yeah, one of the manga is a colored version of Dragonball in the saiyan arc right now. Also, you do realize it's available in other English speaking countries outside of America now, right?

Considering it's a digital service and therefore restricted by country and the fact that said description doesn't apply to where I live in the slightest, not that helpfull :ninja:
What next, are they gonna reprint HNK now ?
Mind you if they're gonna go back they could just as well present older series that never came out in english before.
-

I don't think they speak English in the Czech Republic.
-
I know that (In the case of the Czech republic, I actually know that on a personal level since there was someone I knew for a long time who came from the Czech republic). I just don't tend to remember where most of the posters here come from though, so I was just putting it out there that they have gone to countries outside the U.S
-

What makes you say it is Owari no Seraph?
And for people who aren't in territories where the English Jump is available, you should let them know you want it on their facebook or twitter. They are still trying to add more territories.
-
The silhouette in the page teasing us about the new series is from Owari no Seraph.
-
Wow, just read the 3rd chapter of Hachi, and is real good. I hope this endure and be the next huge thing in Jump :)

Cause if there's anything that would make them invest a crap ton into expanding into an untested and largely comics free market (aside from a handfull of trades released once in a while, and Naruto and Bleach), it's Facebook :P
I doubt there'd be more then one person (me) posting anyway.
-
There are posters here who've figured out how to hand Viz money for subscriptions despite living in countries outside of the current official coverage. I'm not sure how, but there's always a way.
-
As other posters, I was also suprised by the pace of Hachi and I hope Tekin is not only a damsel a dsitress but develops into a good female lead. We need more of those in WSJ.

But does she have any power(she isn't a half) and does she any other good qualities? She is just a highschool student(popular, but a highschool student). So I don't see how can she be a lead female, and if she take that role I believe it will take some time to get there, more given the next arcs seem to be:
! - Learn/Trainning how to use half powers
- Rescue Tekin(free Tokyo)
-
We already had a 6 month timeksip and know nearly nothing about the new Tokyo. It is possible.
-
Is anyone scanning the series atm ?

Mangaburn is scanning it, scans are only available on mangareaders (Mangainn) though.
It should soon by on Mangatraders as well. -

Also hope Tekin won't be kidnapped for the majority of the series.
-
I am pleased to see Hime-dol!! in the bottom 5, but am sad for Kurokuroku.
@No Maam:
Yeah, I agree. Let's hope Hachi's mangaka capitalizes on her character potential. -
Saiki Kusuo has been down the list lately.
-
Does Kochikame ever get hurt by such a low ranking, or does it basically continue on its own inertia at this point?
-
Kochikame is like The Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes or Garfield.
You do not remove such a thing from your magazine. Ever. -

-
Wow, that was quite a shot Beel.
-
Kochikame is like The Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes or Garfield.

Hell Yeah! Nice to see Souma going strong :D

Simpsons would imply initial satire of contempary society trends and consumption culture with gradual decline through increased V.I.P. cameos. This has never happened in Japan afaik, though - or has it? If so: Please enlighten me, [User familiar with Japanese culture]!

I definitely understand why that would make you feel down, but I think it is even just important that you would be an international voice period, not just your specific country. I think every company would love to, and definitely wants to, have global distribution rights to series outside of Japan, Asia, or as few other territories as possible. The smaller your territory is, the more likely you would actually be included in this. It is the countries that already have sizeable manga markets that will be the ones skipped over. There hasn't really been much of this in digital manga right now though, but that is the way sites like Crunchyroll operate, and Viz has already shown interest in expanding outside of just the territories they also have a print business in currently, and if any manga would be able to do it, I would guess Shonen Jump series have the best chance.
And man do I want to see chapter 3 of Hachi. Hopefully Jump's online reader will upload it as the last preview…...

You do not remove such a thing from your magazine. Ever.except Watterson removed Calvin & Hobbes himself, and peanuts hasn't been new for close to a decade now, they're just doing re-runs.
more like, no one wants to be the guy who tells whoever's doing Blondie nowadays to knock it off.

That's exactly an description of Kochikame sans the VIP part.
Content wise, it IS pretty much Japanese Simpsons. The satirical approach is much tamer than it used to be as well, and occasionally, like Simpons does, runs with a completely character-driven story instead of social satire. -
Whoa, the new one-shot on Weekly Shounen Sunday, the artist is 15 years old.
Murata tweeted calling him a genius lolthe one shot is up on the web actually,

(click on the 無料で読む in the black box under the drawing)A good one shot too, the art is kinda old-school for a 15 years old though.

Interesting, how is the oneshot called and what is it about?

I admit I'd love to read Kochikame, but it seems there is no way that Western scnlator, let alone publishers, will ever find interest in it. Would a translation for this series be rather hard or is the level of Japanese required to understand it not that high?
-
Title is Oni Hime. The artist's pen-name is Saba no Neko.
Saw his stuff on pixiv as well, impressive for a 15 yr old. -

Personally I didn't find the language all that difficult in Kochikame, but the challenge my lie within cultural references and just general japanese puns/jokes.

I am so in love with those colour pages that it boggles the mind. And the inkwork. And… Oh god, it's just stupidly exceptional, isn't it. Totally my bag, and I hope we get to see some more of their work soon.

I couldn't read most of the story (though the images tell it clearly enough), but that was indeed impressive. I love the look of the heroine–she reminds me of Samidare from Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer–and just the art in general. Hopefully someone scans this so I can really read it...

Someone will be happy the ukiyo-e manga will be serialized

Weird to see Toriko so low :V
-
Huh, I figured Haikyuu would be up another spot or two since that chapter should be the first full one introducing the second named female in the entire series.
Still, Toriko's the surprise this week.
