General Metroid Thread: Samus Returns Primed 4 a Comeback
So, as those of you watching E3 have seen, Nintendo has finally brought Metroid back from the dead with the announcement of not just one, but two upcoming games. The first announcement being Metroid Prime 4 for the Switch, and the second being a remake of Metroid II for the 3DS.
Unfortunately, the Prime announcement was nothing more than a working title card with no other details, but at least it's something to look forward to. As for Metroid: Samus Returns, it got a nice trailer and a lengthy demo on the Treehouse stream. Samus Returns will be a 2.5D remake of Metroid II on the Game Boy, with a bunch of new features, which will be released on September 15th, along with two new amiibo.
Other known details include: Metroid Prime 4 is not being developed by Retro Studios, but by a whole new team being led by Kensuke Tanabe. Samus Returns is being developed by MercurySteam.

RE: General Zelda thread
Alright so, after some proper separation from the event, I have collected my closing thoughts. Spoilers obviously:
! Least favourite boss: thunderblight ganon. how were you supposed to beat his third form once you'd thrown one of his metal spears in his face and he started flying around all electrified? It seemed like there was probably something more complex involved but I just kept hitting him and tanking his electric damage till he died :/
! You're meant to use Magnesis on the pillars it drops on the battlefield, then hold them near it so that it gets hit by the lightning the pillars attract. Yeah, it wasn't super obvious, and I only found out because Urbosa pretty much flat out tells you after a certain amount of time has passed. Before that happened, I was dealing minimal arrow damage and having to scarf food when I couldn't dodge in time.

RE: General Zelda thread
@dirt:
I found a shrine quest completely at random just because I've been scouring the map for things that look interesting that I haven't seen from afar.
! And then the sheikah ball got teleported to the beginning area I got it from simply because I … I'm not really sure why. I killed the first hinox and it had the ball, so I carried it with me and then I offed the second before taking the second ball forward first where I found the place I was supposed to put it. But when I went back, the first ball was GONE from where I dropped it. I went back to the first area, but it wasn't there until much later after I killed the third guy and dropped THAT ball off. I swear I was searching for the damn thing for a half hour completely flabbergasted before I checked the first area for the third or fourth time.
! Each ball goes into a specific pedestal. I also made the mistake of dropping the first one into a random pedestal, then had to go fetch it again later. It was no big deal, though, just a bit annoying having to trek back down to the spawn point and back up the hill.

RE: General Zelda thread
Well, I did it. I managed to barely edge out a victory against Ganon with a whole 1 1/2 hearts remaining. I wasn't even at the castle with the intention of fighting, but I walked into the room that happens to trigger it and decided to give a shot, just to see what I could expect. In a word: madness. Calamity is a very fitting moniker for this Ganon. My heart is still pounding. What a rush! I'd like to see the looks on the faces of those that headed straight for the castle after getting the glider. I bet their expressions are priceless (assuming they made it past the front gate).
That said, I still have an insane amount of stuff to do, so I'll preoccupy myself with that after I take a bit of a breather to fully digest that fight. I'll go into it a bit in a spoiler tag:
! Honestly, I got quite lucky during that fight. I was sort of prepared, but not really, so all I had were ingredients to heal with, and luckily they happened to be enough. If I'd been carrying a bit less, I definitely would've lost the fight. Other things that I had available were: the four Divine Beasts, which shoot Ganon and wipe out half his health, the Master Sword, and the special abilities from your dead Champion friends (specifically the Zora and Goron abilities).
! Thanks to Mipha's revives, I managed to not get a game over, and Daruk's ability gave me the chance to completely tank some hits that definitely would've killed me, with the added bonus of leaving Ganon exposed to attack. The Master Sword goes without saying; it's the Blade of Evil's Bane. I'm not sure how the game takes your horses into account, but the one that I had to ride was my very first horse, not Zelda's horse, which I caught for that one side-quest. Maybe it's only that particular horse that you can't use, but yeah, I got stuck with a horse that was slow and a bit disobedient (because I stuck it in a stable as soon as I tamed it). Thankfully, Beast Ganon is pretty slow, so his attacks are cake to avoid. The danger with that form is getting close to him when it comes time to shoot his weak points with the Bow of Light.
! All in all, this is definitely the best final battle I've experienced in a Zelda to date. You really do need to be prepared, because if you're not, Ganon will eat you alive. And even if you're prepared, you're still in for a tough fight.
! Also, Iwata is still listed as Executive Producer, under Kimishima. Rest In Peace. -
RE: General Zelda thread
By now I've taken on three Divine Beasts, retrieved the Master Sword, cleared many trials, and I still have four entirely unexplored regions on my map. I love this game.
Damn, you beat me to it. I only found the Master Sword and started on my third Divine Beast last night, but my body was finally like "Come on, bro, sleep." haha
I did activate all of the towers, though, so my map is now filled out. Filled out, but not explored.
I'm stumped by one variety of Korok, what to do when in a random place (usually forest) there is a cloud of butterflies or leaves in a mini tornado. I think that it is just a generic "look around" sign, but in most of these cases I found nothing, any hint?
You probably didn't click at the right time, because I've found those and sometimes had to chase them around, but I did find Koroks after successfully inspecting them.

RE: General Zelda thread
! As soon as King Hyrule finally stopped jerking me around and gave me the glider, I went in the opposite direction of what he told me. On the way, I found two shrines, and a meadow full of wild horses! I managed to tame one and named it Manchas, because it's spotted. It's not the horse I wanted, but it's the horse I managed to sneak up to and tame, so I'll settle for that. Also, Beedle confirmed. He now sports a beetle-shaped backpack and also sells beetles. How fitting! The ranch by the meadow looks cool, but I'll explore it more closely during my next session.
! I can't wait to play more! -
RE: General Zelda thread
Impressed impressions/progress so far:
! I've collected all of the initial abilities and gotten the first bit of story from King Hyrule (RIP in peace), but only after more than two hours of roaming the map, finding stuff and killing bokoblins. So far, the story looks pretty promising, even though it's just Ganon again. The exploration and fucking around, though? That's fantastic. It's going to be tough having to take turns on this, because I just want to keep playing it until I collapse into sleep.
