Why are we comparing One Piece these mediocre pieces of shit (at best?) this far in the game? I think we established a long time ago that they're not comparable. Simply for the fact that they are so below the grade that Oda sets his standards to.

It's also worth noting that One Piece has built itself up more slowly and surely than Naruto did. Which resulted in some blander earlier arcs that have overtime paid off and made One Piece all the better for it.
Volume 5 of both mangas.
Volume 5 of Naruto was like a huge blowout of exciting new characters and sights and sounds and potentials.
Volume 5 of One Piece got them Merry, Usopp and introduced Sanji. But the OP world was still really small.
It took till Volume 25 to really get a fuller sense of the wider politics of the OP world.
But it's all a better pay off.The thing that makes Oda better than Kishimoto is that Oda is a god when it comes to planning. He knows not to rush ahead and keep control of his writing, but he has also proven to be good at stand-alone arcs like Skypiea, Davy Back Fight or Thriller Bark, but they're not as exciting. Kishimoto is all like "AH, I GOT AN IDEA, I MUST INTRODUCE THIS IDEA RIGHT NOW WITHOUT ANY BUILD-UP! BUT HM, THIS IDEA WONT WORK WITHOUT THIS THING BEING REMOVED, AH, RIGHT, CHAKRA CAN DO ANYTHING NOW".

For me One Piece always was better than Naruto. Even in his earlier times! I always preferred the build up, the comedy, the action, the art, character designs, history and all the rest in One Piece than in Naruto and I started watching both of them at almost the same time. I still remember, at that time I was the only person(from my group of friends and known people) that preferred One Piece over Naruto. In the conversations about it after trying to convey why I liked One Piece more, It always ended by saying that regardless of tastes, both series were awesome, but now I just can't say the same.

Well, me on the other hand - I was a Naruto fan first. Years ago, when OP was just around the Arlong Park part I tried to read it (on the awful MSN servers, awful translations and AWFUL resolution) and I just couldn't get in. Yeah, I was more or less a teenager back then, so maybe that's some sort of an excuse. But also - Naruto was in better quality everywhere I knew, I liked the fights and the WHOA moments, like Rock Lee VS Gaara. I got to Naruto around 2003, I was like 14 and the last thing my stupid brain could wrap itself around was the plot building and planning of things. I just wasn't grown up enough for these, so I liked the early Naruto chapters. And to this day I think that the first half of Naruto, till the Naruto VS Sasuke fights, was a really great series, more or less! Yeah, it did decilne in quality, but when the fights did they WHOA, they were really enjoyable - the Neji VS that spider sound guy that Orochimaru sent had some great planning, they really did try to analazy each other.
But yeah, after OP and the awful MSN scanlations didn't bring me in, I just forgot about the series for a few years. Then I remembered about it and tried to get in once more - this time it clicked, the scanlation was a little better, I saw how heartbreaking the stories of the characters were (as a kid I think I skipped some of them, because the scanlation was so awful it was hard to see anything, and the font/translation didn't help). So, yeah, I might've been a Narutard back in the day, but I did go back to OP, did try it and did love it. -

was watching the anime and it just struck me
i don't know what was shown in the anime,but in the manga it was clearly said that Obito didn't put any bijuus in those edo jins…he kept them all inside Gedo Mazo and used chakra rods to transport chakras to edo bodies....
if you only watch anime,listen careully what Son Goku(4 tails) will say to Naruto once Naruto removes the binding rods from his/jin's body...“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. - Genuine enjoyment through the Tsunade arc, based on legitimately good story and story setup.
- Loss of interest during the incredibly draggy Sasuke in a Pot arc
- Interest briefly rekindled by Time Skip, and mysterious Akatsuki re-introduction
- Gradual waning of interest as it becomes clear that Kishimoto can't pay off his setups, and had no real plan for his story

Kind of agree with you there although the only thing to really interest me after the timeskip was the possibility for jiraiya to finally kick some ass and parts of the pain invasion arc after i had choosen to ignore the bad storytelling.
I think what kept me going back to naruto after the tsunade arc was fanfiction at that time but since I don't read that anymore I just come back because of morbid curiosity (like the people who have to drive extra slowly past a car accident just to watch)

I only liked the Sasuke in a Pot arc for the Neji and Rock Lee/Gaara vs kidnappers fights. Other than that I could care less about Choji and I don't even remember Shikamaru's battle. And of course I never liked Sasuke.

I liked the Sasuke in a pot arc. I also liked quite a lot of Naruto post timeskip. Naruto has had its ups and downs but ever since the Pein invasion of the leaf village it has just been consistently poor.
