Just to chime in here, I'm pretty sure the soccer theory hasn't been said by Oda. It's mostly just that Oda is a soccer fan and astute theorists have put the two together (wanna say Urouge was the first to bring this up?) along with the "10 will do" line. At best, Oda might have compared the crew to a soccer team at one point, but to my knowledge I don't think any source or quote exists. Best current theory out there though.
Think the best alt. theory is the one involving Blackbeard's crew being the anti-Strawhats do the two crews will match in # size by the final battle (and they currently have 10/11 if you count Stronger. And though I don't see any benefit in Oda adding people post timeskip for Blackbeard when he could've added whomever he wanted during the Impel Down raid, that's also a possibility).

It's actually rather peculiar. In our own language, we term it "foot ball", but all the English translations we learn in school are "soccer". When I was little I always found it weird why "olive ball" was translated to "football" in English.
I don't think there will be any official first mate in the story, whether it be Zoro, Jimbe, or someone else (though I do think Zoro sort of has that role spiritually, because he was the first member to join, his scene with Kuma, a couple parallels with Rayleigh, and has been called Luffy's second in command by others.) The Strawhats are a tiny crew, so any sort of structured chain of command outside of captain seems unnecessary. And a lot of them have been shown in some authoritative capacity - Nami knocking sense in the guys, Zoro scolding the weakling trio, etc. I think it would throw off that dynamic to have an official structure. It also seems weird to me that they would go so long without having a first mate, and then have the most recent addition take a commanding position over them.
I think Jimbe will be given perhaps more respect, but I just don't see him being first mate. There's a lot of things he can bring to the crew - his water abilities, his experience as a veteran, his strategic thinking, diplomacy (as someone above said). I don't think he needs an official title.

Shanks and Buggy looked in their teens - older than Momo at 8. Also, Roger's crew looks to be considerably bigger than the Strawhats, where they could reasonably be looked out for, and not every member I think could be expected to have monster strength. And Oda wasn't writing fights for them, like he is for the Strawhats. There are plot reasons for Shanks being on Roger's ship, and there are plot reasons why a weak 8 year old shouldn't join the Strawhats.

Check every volume, databook, even the Strong World intro. You'll see "occupation: swordsman", sometimes "Warrior" or "Fighter". Until proven otherwise, anything else is wishful thinking based on personal preferences.

We'll probably get a more definitive answer to that when he does join, but they'll most likely hang out in the Fishman district, where no one would really be able to bother them (since the area is officially closed off).

What physical thing have OP first mates ever been shown to do. It's always been shown as a spiritual sort of role, like the captain's oldest and most trusted companion, or someone capable of co-leadership.

Well, I assumed these obligations were to close the deal with Big Mom and get his (former) crew back. Jinbe's crew would be in a pretty tough situation if Big Mom found out Jimbe joined the strawhats..
As Dark_Cloud mentioned earlier, the closed-off Fishman District seems the best place for his crew to stay. Having the crew retire seems like a logical thing because it was already mentioned some of the Fishman Pirates don't desire a life of piracy (if I remember correctly).

Maybe, although since its unclear where Stronger fits into the BB crew (he could be just the horse Doc Q rides to get around, or he could be used somehow by Doc Q to fight and requiring a tag-team effort), we could already be at 11 Blackbeards in terms of the pairings.
But yeah, if Blackbeard does pick up another crew member, it has to be someone related to the story or what's already going on. Otherwise Oda would have just introduced him/her with the rest of the level 6 prisoners BB sprang.
I keep saying it, but I'm pretty certain Jinbe is going to be the "advanced navigation" guy. Its a role that's well established, that Luffy wanted fulfilled, and was fully explained in the arc that Luffy asked Jinbe to join.
