Okay, for all you people complaining Yamato doesn't look like a Zoan I came up with an alternative for you.
Kaido is really into beasts for some reason so turns out he got it on with a mink so Yamato is half mink. Yamato doesn't normally look very minkish but considering it is a full moon, Yamato's blood can't resist, becomes a were-mink, and assumes a sulong type form. This potentially leaves the possibility of the devil fruit Kaido mentioned a mystery if the form is explained by some other means.
What does Kaido want? A war to end all wars. He also has a fruit that he didn't want anyone to eat but Yamato ate it. Whereas Belo Betty has a devil fruit that increases people's fighting spirit and physical strength, Yamato has a fruit that calms people down and lets them solve conflict with words, not weapons.

As I've mentioned, they do not. Luffy in Chapter 1 understood why Shanks would not let him on his ship. Plus, Shanks lost an arm for protecting Luffy. Clearly his experience had an effect on him, so the concept of "apprentice" is irrelevant with Momo and Tama when one needs to take a position to restore Wano's power hierarchy and the other is completely inept of protecting herself. She's been kidnapped twice by nameless fodder and in both situations was helpless to do anything. They're liabilities on the sea. Especially when they're about to fight something like the Blackbeard Pirates. This isn't day care.

So yeah, you're the one assuming things.
At the end of Wano, Momo will drop down to his knee's and beg Luffy to take him with them exclaiming that he promises to get stronger and won't be a burden. Luffy will give one of his "HUH ? Why wouldn't you be going? You're allready part of the crew!".
I also believe Momo will show he is strong enough to protect himself and others by the end of Wano. He is literally going through training and has a unique DF we know almost nothing about. If Vegapunk doesn't show up in Wano and we have been hinted towards getting to meet him very soon, that's just all the more reason for Momo to stay relevant because we need to learn about his DF if we don't get to learn more in this arc. Af far as what role he can play well, maybe Oda is waiting to make that clear? Not to mention Gol had kids on his ship so your "this isn't a daycare" argument is void.
