I don't understand why people say Kalifa's DF is Logia. I'm very sure it's Paramecia. In that case, Nami can just hit her physically and Kalifa can still get hurt.
Chapter 408 "Monster vs Kumadori" Discussion
-
-
Maybe it's because she manipulates bubbles and uses them to protect her. She herself hasn't actually turned into bubbles to avoid attacking, so until that happens, she's just a more powerful and tactful Mr. 3
-
well, she is a CP9, so attacking her directly is useless. Soru, tekkai and kami-e is all defensive moves she can use. The only way i see nami hitting her is with strong wind techniques.

I'm pretty sure it's paramecia too…she's creating/manipulating bubbles, not becoming them. Just like Mr. 3 and his wax. I don't think of bubbles as being "elemental" anyway...

Yeah, unless she can shift her form entirely to bubbles, she's a Paramecia. That's pretty much the golden standard.
Califa, Mr. 3, Robin, and Foxy make me wish that Oda had created a fourth category of Devil Fruit where the user simply generates something that they can control to a limited extent and turn off at will. That way, the Logias could be considered a combination of all three types: the altered body of a Paramecia, the shapeshifting attributes of a Zoan, and the generating abilities of a… hell, I don't know, a Genera Fruit User. Zoanthropy was truncated to Zoan, so why not Generator to Genera?
That or shorten Creator to Cretin in honor of Foxy.
-
or dry things out… you can't have foam/bubbles without some kind of liquid.
ooshi78
Yeah I would say fire is her best bet either that or pretend she's her and when kalifa gets really close fry the heck out of her with thunder (this is beggining to sound like pokemon) .
-
Cretin in honor of Foxy.
sorry but that line just made me lol realy hard.
cretin is rumanian for idiot/imbecile. -
I think the scariest thought to this is the fact that Croc's dream was to become the pirate king.
-
How is that frightening? I am sure Croc was once ambitious as well, though being realistic decided to become a despot of a powerful nation and manipulate it.
-
1- Thanks for the chapter
2- Now wait a sec what does Califa's fruit do? From what I see it makes one's body shiny or something. -
it makes one's body shiny, it also wash away one's energy and power is what I see
-
Somehow, I've lost all the respect that I had for CP9 due to this chapter. Kalifa, act professional! Other than that, the sight of Tony Tony Kong climbing the tower made my day. So its all balanced out in the end. Woo…
-
I've always thought that exchange between Croc & Luffy in ch. 208 about knowing the level of the GL and losing sight of those dream, was a large hint towards Croc once being a rather ambitious pirate, who had big dreams too, but sort of became jaded or just took a bad path at some point.
So it doesn't really surprise me to see him as the would-be Pirate king.

I feel similarly but I still admire kumadori for trying but we all know chopper wasn't gonna be taken down by him in that form. I stillhave respect for lucci, kaku and jayabura but kalifa I was so psyched to see her battle but her character just sorta seems to have had a transplant or something, I still like her though just think her character hasn't lived up to it's theme.
-
Not to defend Kalifa's actions, but it seems to me she is getting a litle wrapped up in her devils fruit abilities, almost like she is using Sanji and Nami as test subjects.
This is the second battle that she has had a devil's fruit ability, and unlike the zoans the paramecia have different applications. As Crocodile said, Devils fruit powers can be more powerful depending on how you use them.
IMHO I think that if Kalifa did not have a devil's fruit ability she would have fought Nami seriously and this would have ended already (in whoever's victory).
-
@Hunky:
Oh, man I got a good laugh when Kumadori used tekkai when he was going to be smashed by Choppzilla, to bad he wasn't holding an umbrella when he got smushed like in Looney Toons.
Heh, the tiny little "Tekkai" speech bubble – he knew it wasn't going to work.
It's going to be interesting to see who takes Spandam out. I'd like to see Robin take some revenge for that evil kick he gave her a while back, but Sanji's the only one that's been out of combat action long enough to be able to catch them. Unless… Chopper Kong throws Franky over the whirlpool to the Gate...

Correct. You don´t really talk about all that stuff if you don´t have any idea what you´re talking about actually. No surprise for me neither.
The only thing I don´t get about this rainbow of dreams thing. Do they imagine to wear these cloth´s or do they really wear them?

Ms GW is a hypnotist, so they're all just imagining things.

Whenever I look at Chopperzilla, I can't help but think:
This is your body.
This is your body on drugs.
Any questions?
-
Hmm, I can't help but notice that everyone is trying to mark Calipha's DF down as a Paramecia, instead of a Logia. I don't really care, because it seems a very fun power.
Soap seems to me as much an element as smoke, so I wouldn't question its Logia-ness at that level. Arguing for the Paramecia cause, you could point out that she didn't turn into bubbles, only enclosed herself in a bar of soap, and that her special energy washing ability is the kind of "extra" that only Paramecias can do. But then again, Smoker can harden his smoke and Crocodile has that strange moisturize draining ability.
I still think it's a Paramecia, but I sort of feel there's a undercurrent saying "Calipha is not allowed to have a Logia because she's not important/kickass enough to deserve one" and I wanted to say that of course she can have a Logia. I certainly hope that after two Logia bosses, we'll at least get the chance of seeing a Logia underling, proving that Logias aren't necessarily the Deus Ex Machina of Devil Fruits.
That said, the best way to neutralize soap is to mix it with lime: together with soap it makes a very insoluble salt which loses all its cleaning power.
-
New bullshit theory: Monster Chopper punched Franky so hard he went through the ground and into the underground passageway where Luffy and Lucci are.
This way he'll be able to take on Spandam, kick his ass for what he did to him and Tom and help save Robin, settling things down with Luffy and ensuring his
spot in the crew.Cause honestly I don't see how anybody else can reach Spandam and Robin now, except if Sanji magically recovered from Calipha's soapy massage and followed Luffy all this time, which would seem too far fetched to me.
-
Well i personaly hope that after Lucchi and Spandam are in coma or a persistent vegetative state. Luffy and Robin can have a little intimate moment all alone.

But Chopper & Franky were at the side of the tower, and I'd assume the underground passage would lead away directly from the back. So… I dunno, it seems sort of impossible from that angle.
If Franky took the hit, he'd most likely be back in the ocean again.
btw...

But then what´s the whole point of the entire thing? It doesn´t seem much different from dilirious (sp?) effects of drugs.

Dammit Ivotas, where do u get all ur smilies!?
nvm, i see the hyperlink now.
-
I don't think we'll discover the true nature of Kalifa's DF (Logia vs. Paramecia) until the end of the chapter.
I didn't realize Smoker was a Logia until the very end of the Logue Town arc. -

YAY!!!!:banzai:
I wish Chopzilla's in the color spread. So Nami's gonna fight while sitting/kneeling down? or at least until the soap thing expires

You're a logia if you can turn into your element, control your element, and become your element. Luffy only has 1/3 (become) and Calipha and Mr. 3 have 2/3 (control, create) so they are not Logia, they're paramecium.
-
Are you sure it wouldn't be 409 in color, then?
-
Nope, Jump #23 = 409, Jump #24 = 410.
-
Oh, I was under the impression that there wouldn't be a chapter next week. Wait….it's Golden Week or something? Argh. Carry on.
-
Is "there's no chapter next week" also refers to there's no shonen jump next week!?
-
So let's get this straight: There really is NO chapter next week, right?
-
No, it's Goldenweek sp there will be no chapter unfortunately; there will be one the next week though…
-
Last time this happened, we got the chapter next week anyways. I guess someone leaked it. I wonder how that works, and if it'll happen again next week.
Regardless though, there's gonna be 1 week without OP. Either next week, or the next next one. I rather get it over with, but damn I'm excited and want the next chapter!!! I don't know which is better to do!!!
-
Wow, what a great chapter! Calipha's Devil's fruit power has alot of perks. I never knew Oda could come up with something so unique. But, I wonder how Nami's gonna get herself out of this one? It'll be alot harder than Miss Doublefinger, but I'm sure she'll find a way. And Luffy's big fight is coming up! Maybe we'll see some of Spandam's Funkfried action, and team up with Lucci.

I think i'm gonna try and force myself not to read at least 2 coming chapter's. Having said that I tried that so many times and whenever I come here and see ''spoilers'' I just have to click no matter how much I resist.
-

no way, spandam is on his way bringing robin through the gate of justice and lucci is not this kind of person who fight in a team…maybe we´ll see some action of spandam when somebody is on his way to release robin.
-
@Monkey:
Actually, I have to say that what I liked the most of this chapter was the cover story. It was really sweet of Crocodile to secretly dream about being the Pirate King; I sort of went "Aww". Oda has let us see the more tender part of his personality, it's like he'd always innerly regretted having become one of the Seven Corsairs because it meant betraying his dream…
Corsairs? Haha, never heard that one before…
Is that really what Goldenweek is doing, showing their dreams? The mini-story stopped making sense to me after they all busted out.
-
Well, they're Corsairs, really. Pirates with a licence for privateering from the government.
-
Dumb question which has probably been asked and answered, but I haven't gotten through all ten pages, and I'm in a bit of a hurry…
Is there a translated version out yet?
-
There's translations out. Check the sub-forum in here for it.
-
I'm getting the feeling that Usopp will recieve the most important assignment of this arc. Sanji will probably get all of the keys including the number 2 key and bring it to Zorro and Usopp. Some how that will lead to Usopp getting all of the keys and taking all of the keys to Luffy. Instead he'll be entrusted to get Robin and stop Spandam from reaching the gates of justice.
The problem is Sanji doesn't know abt Zoro and Usopp's situation. Neither does Nami since I remember Chopper did not have the chance to tell her, thanks to Sanji. I get the impression tt only Chopper and Franky know.
-
Why has no one other than Jojohot scanned 408 yet? Even if Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were all missed there would usually be someone by atleast Saturday..
-

I support this question too. Is that what she is doing
-
I have no idea. Then again it doesn't matter, as long as someone does it.
-
Nami knows. Chopper asked her for the #2 key, and she was like, "I have a key, but it's not the #2." Right?
-

I took the translation from Stephen's script.
Chpt 403
Chopper: Why?!! We have to beat him to get his key!!
Nami: You mean this? I took his key without him noticing! I just couldn't escape!! How's everyone else?
Chopper: Hey, what number does it say?!
Nami: Number? 3.
Chopper: Darn.
Nami: What's the number for?
- Page 12 -
Chopper: Aaah!
Nami: Kyaa!!
Something just… fell through the ceiling!!
Chopper: Huh?!!
A doll?!!
Nami: NO!!!
IT'S SANJI?!!
Chopper: What HAPPENED to him?!!…And nothing abt the key from then on…
-
well nami knows that kumadori had the #3 key, but she doesn't know fukurou's key #. only franky is aware of that, and he seems to be in a . . . compromising position right now. so either nami beats califa to find her key #, or oda could pull a fast one and have lucci hold the #2 key all along. in which case zorro and sogeking would have to actually fight with handcuffs and all.
-
quick question, did we ever find out what Robin's handcuff number was?
