That is what I always wanted to know: I am not native english and I might sound like an idiot, but I always wondered what is the meaning of the term "chekhov's gun"? is this some kind of plothole? it sounds startrek-related, but I am not much into that.

I'm talking why you wouldn't want to cross a Celestial.
AS for what you get out of it. There's marine protection, a coalition(basically the UN) and better world order. I mean the shitty part is mostly about the Redline area(CD plaground) where you are pretty unlikely to go.
As for the fishmen if they want to be treated as human and live among human It makes sense to me they would try to make it happen by talking to the leaders of the human world.

It's a literary term. I'd have to look up the specifics, but Chekhov's Gun refers to a plot device that is mentioned or put on display early in a story (say, Fishman Island's Tamatebako being sent to Big Mom while filled with explosives) but only comes into play much later (the Tamatebako exploding at the Wedding on WCI).
You might check TVTropes or something for a more detailed description, but that's the basic idea.
EDIT: Ninja'd.

How many of your own nations can you annhilate before your nation alliance starts to shake though? And what would be the cost in manpower to squash major nations like Alabasta? And how many marines would go full Saul in the long run due to the senselessness of it all? And it all feels even stranger by the whole pleasant protocol they present in this chapter. It's all yeah brotherhood, respect, cooperation and you have no rights at all and we can and will kill you all for fun. And instead of going back to their nations and going hard Roose Bolton on it they smile and agree that this seems like a good deal. It all made a bit of sense before when it appeared that they were to acknowledge them as the elite and paying tribute and all that ass kissing about their origins while still getting good perks. But now that the royals themselves are established to be treated no better than livestock by the nobles it all just seems bizarre. But eh i guess it is what it is, i'm just getting some random thoughts of my chest.

Thx for your answers! But in the case I would get a respond like "GIYF", I already looked it up myself. I could have done this earlier, but simply forgot to do it every time. Though if I am writing and I am describing the interior of a hunter's lodge (to keep on the hanging rifle), why should I not mention any weapons hanging from the wall? I think if a location is described in detail, the reader can imagine it in greater detail. And it makes the written book thicker.

Well, the thing is, you're totally right. The WG is utterly insane with how the Celestial Dragons can do anything, including treating it's vassal kings like shit. But then again, there's been a lot of crazy/evil tyrants who do the same evil, stupid stuff they do.

The guy who explained the concept, the titular Chekhov, was a short story writer (just looked it up myself :p) and was basically saying not to waste time/page space on unimportant things. If you, the author, take the time to say there's a gun mounted on the wall, then at some point that gun needs to be fired.
More applicable to the short story, but even novels can get too dense with descriptions and lose the reader.
Alabasta, Dressrossa and Fishman Island didn't seem to have admirals as watchdogs.
Pretty sure his point was that the kingdoms and their armies don't amount too much if they tried to fight back against a CD. Because it's the government who have those things.
Also that thing with Charlos was like a ten minute quick thing, if it kept going presumably word would reach back up to the Elder Stars and they'd be like "Oh yeah no fuck that, Charlos put her back".

Yeah, I also read that "if you put a gun on a stage…" implying that this rule is also used on theater-stages, that argument DOES make sense. But take those fountain statutes at the socializing plaza: they might never seem relevant, but it's a delight spotting all those details. Oda's assistants really rock as hard as he does. I was doing a drawing-research for cracks/tracks of destruction, so I looked at all the cracks in the mirro-world while Luffy vs. Katakuri. Not that the cracks looked amazing, but by the progress of the fight, the mirror world looked more and more destroyed during the fight. I was really stunned by that. When you first read through these chapters, you hardly even notice (I didn't tbh), but Artur did a nice research on how the final blows connected. That brought me to look at those cracks more closely.

Alright but how do you un-murder Neptune, Vivi, Rebecka and their entourage?

Look, these things happen some times. But I know, deep in his heart, Rob Lucci will forget this unfortunate incident and it will plague his mind no longer.

People never stop to think how these things affect the hired goons.
Goons have feelings too, probably.

The way Lucci will forget killing is by washing his hands then sit down to a glass of wine.
To forget who he's killed? All he needs to do is turn his back and walk away.
If the warlords system is dissolved, I wonder if Vegepunk's new weapon will play a role in the Wano Arc since it seems like Sakazuki seems to be suggesting that just sending an admiral to Wano might not be enough.
Just looked it up. It's not nearly as thought provoking as I remembered. In the scanlation way back I remembered it as Sengoku saying something to the affect of "Because it's you Red Hair, I'll take responsibility." That always gave me the impression that Shanks was seen a little differently than other pirates.
In the official translation though…
Shanks: "We'll see to the burial of Ace and White Beard... I won't allow to go on making a spectacle of their deaths."
Doberman: "What?! But we need to show of their severed heads to celebrate our victory!!"
Sengoku: "I don't mind."
Doberman: "Fleet Admiral?!"
Sengoku: "Thats fine by me "Red Haired". I'll take responsibility for this.
Shanks: "Thank you."So not as clear cut as I originally thought but I still feel like Sengoku taking responsibility in that moment carried a little bit of back story. Something more than Shanks just being powerful so let him have the bodies.
Thanks. Same impression here but I'd take it as something just for the moment. I doubt he has special preferences. But the story will tell it
It is non-canon, but didn't Lucci tried to bomb a whole casino ship with Tenryubittos inside it in Film Gold?
I don't think this chapters implies that Rob likes the CD. Just that he still loves killing. So it's not contradictory for me.
He wouldn't be going on about "gods" and how "gods" get whatever they want if he didn't like them, or saw them as some sort of an authority.
I am pretty sure he was being a douchbag on purpose and didn't believe any word he said.
His face and dialogues suggest otherwise though.
I can buy deeply indoctrinated Rob Lucci who also just loves him some random murder.
I am pretty sure he was being a douchbag on purpose and didn't believe any word he said.
Honestly, it does sound like Lucci to just piss off people into unnecessarily fighting him.
Good thing Mjosgard cockblocked him at the right moment.
I am probably over interpreting the few things we know about him.
Didn't he say at some point to spandam that he works for him cause it's the only job where you can kill people ?
If he really became a CD pawn I'd sure like to know why.
Rob Lucci is a fascist. Sorry if this hurts to hear folks.
I like how Lucci seemingly learned nothing from his cover story.
Goddamnit Lucci. Jabra jumped through a ring of fire for you.
@Monkey:

Iron Guard legionnaire Rob Lucci.
Yet in this chapter the spell out that all royals are equal before the throne.
The throne was litteraly two tiered, the top tier for the 20 nations, the bottom tier for the pleb kings.
It's hard to backtrack from murdering three royal families and their retainers tho.
What I'm saying is that the WG probably wouldn't support Charloss whims and they could overrule his actions. Of course they can't backtrack the death of any of the royalty with strength enough to step over CP0 (as Kaku explained, they were saving the day, so that nobody would die), but this would be a circumstantial consequence of the dumbness of one of the Tenryuubito alone (which would be apologized and be explained as self-defense). This would be a terrible event for international diplomacy, but not something that the royalty should randomly fear about the institution of the World Goverment in their daily lives.
Alright but how do you un-murder Neptune, Vivi, Rebecka and their entourage?
Maybe the Gorosei would actually issue an apology and take special steps in trying to offer proper compensation.
It's what happen when you have gods on earth. The Celstial dragons are basically those greek gods that kept fucking up with humanity but you still had to suck up to.
But I would really like if to start the reverie we had the gorosei mention how Charloss while i his right went a bit to far. They do seem to want to improve things with Fishmen.
It would be funny/cool if some random king during this kerfuffle noted "Hey, this is stupid. Why do we allow these guys to do anything they want and give them millions of beli and pledge allegiance to them, only to be treated like garbage? Screw you guys, I'm going home".
And then he gets shot by one of the CD's and nobody gives a single fuck lol.
Let's supose all 180 nations of the world goverment unite to fight Marijoa, then what happens? Unless they get more than one emperor on their side, or enough marines defect before they close lines, then not much is going to happen.
Marijoa would have to change the slaves from "human horse" and "stupid walkway" to farming, but asaulting that city is not going to be easy, you aren't getting an army on that mountain fast enough that an idiot imbreed manchild can't just pour hot oil on you. You aren't gathering an army on the blues without everyone learning about it, and preparing accordingly.
The reverie, with all of these bodyguards and devil fruit users actually seems like the best moment to stir some shit, just like the revos have seem to set up. Cut the bondolas, you "only" have to deal with CP0, Fujitora and Ryo.. Green Bull, and Fujitora can't go all out on his home turf as his full power is too destructive. I'd say, how many celestial dragons can you burn alive in their sleep, or make the ground swallow them, or have some crows put poison on their food or something.

"Hello. My name is Sakazuki. Magma fists"
I dunno if I dreamt of this, but I seem to remember that in a flashback or in some old artifact we had the world goverment flag as 5 separated balls, the timespawn being somewhere between the "Declaration of War" around chapter 400 and before the reveal of the 4 road phoneglyphs.
OH! Thinking about that, we have someone who can sheed light on this misterious "Rock", the man who was there before their most famous rookies even joined, Just Bones Brook.
Ok, back to old stuffs, maybe somewhere in thriller bark? Brook's flashback? Fishman island flashback? some background detail of tequilla wolf, Impel Down, or Mihawk's island? Doffy's "descent" to humanity?
It might even be outside that timeframe, I seem to recall the flag, but unconnected.

Only for his kingdom to get ransacked by pirates in the following weeks.
Although that isn't to say all of these kingdoms are in a depressing rut. It seems clear from the Revolutionaries' actions that they're providing disenfranchised nations a chance to take up arms and fight for themselves, and if they so choose they can join up with the Revolutionaries and take a crack at bringing down the Celestial Dragons. Or they can become a benevolent pirate's territory if they're lucky. So there is definitely a big chance for these scenarios to happen. I'll be very surprised if Fishman Island and Alabasta are on good terms with the World Government once Reverie is over.
Oda said before that he's gonna introduce us a legend, and here Shanks wanna talk with Gorosei about a certain pirate.

The legend no doubt involves that Strawhat artifact thing.
Shanks is definitely there to talk about Blackbeard.

No one is really taking down the WG without the Marines splitting. The long forecasted Marine civil war makes a lot of sense even just thinking about realistic scenarios that take out the current government.
He's an Emperor. He's not some nobody.
I'd wager he also knows some things the other emperors don't.
Mjosgard MVP of this chapter. Still, I will really surprise if this attack on Charloss don't get any repercusion. I mean, CD are allowed to fight between themselves without any repercusion?
Meme has to team up with Kaidoh to save her face after what the SH's did to her. She also trying to recover the PG's. disgraceful, lol
How boring and space wasting for Oda to rehash charlos and his mermaid fetish and getting socked similar from before in the auction house.
LOL Lucci is here…Who here wants to bet he and Sabo go at it like they did in the movie. Watch Oda have the two mention their scuffle when they meet again.
Not feeling the theme behind the hollow throne, very cliche and shallow indeed...
Check out Shanks showing up again just to talk about his Blackbeard obsession. lololol
I like how Kizaru and Sakazuki feel they only need to send Kizaru to Wano to keep things in check. Obviously they are apprehensive because they don't know what the fuck is going on in Wano, but I like that Oda is still portraying the Admirals as very strong people who can take on the Emperors. I feel like a lot of fans have been downplaying the Admirals recently, and saying they are weaker than the Emperors. If anything, I feel they are somewhat equal.
Admirals are way below Emperors. An injured and dying Whitebeard did beat Akainu easily.
Admirals are way below Emperors. An injured and dying Whitebeard did beat Akainu easily.
That's because he's Whitebeard, and he had a pretty huge bone to pick at the time.

You call losing half your face an easy battle?
lolololol
@Kaido:
That's because he's Whitebeard, and he had a pretty huge bone to pick at the time.
I think that the combination of sheer rage and like a last-minute-to-live adrenaline boost made him temporarily a lot stronger. Like, he was lumbering like godzilla for a long time, then he speed blitzes Akainu. Like for a brief moment, he was fighting like in his prime.
You call losing half your face an easy battle?
lolololol
I don't think he was that much affected by that.
At least considering the shit he went through after.
Lol Lucci reduced to a puppet of the Tenryubito.
The Gorosei looked so chill with one of the emperors sitting on the same room as them. They must be really powerful/immortals to not fear him. They know he knows and that he doesn't want to change the world that could be a reason the have nothing to worry about from him, but still..
Hot darn! crowded Wano will be become even more crowded XD
Lucci seems a bit brainwashed…more so than normal. But also, I think the Gorosei have a level of respect for Shanks and know him to the extent to not worry.
I don't think he was that much affected by that.
At least considering the shit he went through after.
WTF, Newgate attacked Akainu from behind and even got to lose half of his face… how would that not affect him? lol. If you want to see them engaging into a 1v1 combat, I recommend chapters 667 and 668 (before Newgate started to gasp blood).
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Why are people surprised about Lucci? The guy only cares to have a job in which he's free to kill... it doesn't matter who is the boss. The guy used to diligently obey Spandam's orders.
