I wonder how slow big moms attack is if the flying carpet with 2 passengers manages to dodge it. Discuss the powerlevel!!!

never consideed a person more gentle to the guy/girl they are in love with as "tsundere", but more like as people in love..i think it's kind of normal for anyone to be more gentle to the person you are in love with..but i'm totally not an expert on the terminology..all i remember s what i read one time on wikipedia when i encountered the term before
also,i wouldn't say mansherry is a tsundere..it's more about leo being incredibly rude to her ad incredibly obtuse.
Since there are actually a couple different definitions to go by, for reference the one I use is "a mood swinger whose swings are dictated by the presence or actions of the one they like". Hancock is a hardass to anyone who isn't Luffy or blood family. Mansherry is a sweetheart but Leo's obtuseness sets her off immediately. Violet, however, was consistent throughout Dressrosa in this sense.
Now for Pudding, she started out as a "Bitch in Sheep's Clothing", to use the TV Tropes term, who could switch between sweetheart and sadist at will. Whatever else you may think about it, Sanji's random-but-sincere complement about the third eye she's spent her life being bullied over has completely thrown her out of whack and knocked her switch loose that it swings back and forth randomly, especially (if not exclusively) in Sanji's presence. Thus, Tsundere.
.
But Sanji…why do you still care for Pudding when she tried to kill you and your family...
Bitching around is different than killing
Hehe Greg on the podcast called it, Sanji to the rescue with the wedding cake. I'll give credit for at least keeping us guessing though. And yep spilit personility Pudding too, not a bad middle of the road compromise. Makes sense too considering her harsh upbringing. You don't go through that kinda emotional trauma without a few scars. Did laugh at her back and forth though. And woot for badass Chopper and Brooke!
As fun as this arc has been, I would like for them to start reaching some finality here. Its been feeling like a lot of stop and go once the assassination attempt failed. I'm all for tension but there's a limit to how long you can pad it out. Yes, I'm complaining about that, so what, welcome to the world of opinions. I adore Oda much as anyone, but he's not exempt from making this mistake now and then either. And I'm no less a fan for pointing that out, we want him to suceed and you can't do that if your gonna brush aside faults. Granted it a minor nitpick on my end, but that's just how I feel.
In any case though looks like were going to hit an "hold the line" situation for the climax while Sanji, Chiffon and Pudding make that cake. I'd give it at least four chapters before wrap up.
cover story…good to see happo navvy and his fleet
the whole chapter direction is good...it definitely couple more chapter when you invade YONKO base....
lol BM still recognizing chifon and pudding betrayel...nice to have pudding for SH
her split persona really have a good humor on the team...pudding power can also be a range type huh? nice...
A character right below your post contradicts that. Boa Hancock initially was cold and callous towards Luffy, and was an Ice Queen (the trope), but then she fell for Luffy and her character is very different because of it.
There can be 2 sides in a character's personality.
And she fell in love like during her introduction, it doesn't count. It's like saying Luffy wanted to be pirate king at the end of RomanceDawn, but only wanted to be a simple pirate at the very beginning so I guess he went through some character arc.

well pudding being tsundere was never really an argument :P
For the first time since I started reading this manga I'm actually feeling disappointed with the chapters we're getting. This arc has had such a great buildup and development for both Straw Hats and Big Mom, and yet everything feels like it fell apart in the arc climax (861-current). There's nothing particularly off about the writing, art or comedy; it's on-point as always, but the direction Oda has taken the story in the past few chapters has just felt so bland and anti-climatic, which prior to this would have been the last thing I'd use to describe something in One Piece. It's gotten to the point where I literally just want this arc to end.
I don't know if anyone here shares my opinion to any extent, but I just needed to say it.

I totally get the post-wedding stuff (even though I mostly enjoy it), but what was wrong with the wedding itself? It was probably my favorite action stretch since Marineford.

I'm not exactly sure how this point in the arc can be considered anticlimactic. Nothing's resolved, and the Straw Hats are still heading for a lot of trouble. This is more of a transitional period where most of the focus has just narrowed to Mom. I have no doubt that the actual climax will come on a much bigger scale with more characters involved
More amusing chapter than the spoilers made it seem. Seems like Pudding's thing is just she just can't stop "acting".
A silly/bridge chapter but I liked it.

I'm generally not a fan of when Oda introduces a whole bunch of characters without giving them much depth at all, which is exactly what happened at the Wedding. What this did was undermine some of the already established characters such as the Germa 66 (Whom, unfortunately, were a total disappointment) and Smoothie. If you look back at the things she's done, you'll find that it pretty much equates to absolutely nothing. One of the biggest disappointments of this arc for me was Pudding turning out to be good after all, since I never really liked the "bad character turns good" trope, especially when Oda has used it so much in the past. Chapter 862 was the first chapter since the seducing woods that had left a sour taste in my mouth. That being said, the wedding was miles better than this whole escape sequence. Linlin's backstory was amazing.

Staying relevant to the current chapter, I can't stand Pudding, and I wholeheartedly disagree with the way Oda has handled her character.
@850 "Pudding is really great at acting"
@876 "LOL JK she's totally bipolar and can't help it LOL"
I'm quite ready for this arc to wrap up.
This might be a minority opinion but I enjoy how silly Pudding's bipolarity is. It's a cliche, sure, but it's so over the top and doesn't take itself seriously that it just feels fun.
Only problem I have with the chapter is how fast it is to bake a cake. Doesn't that take hours…? Odd that they'll be able to rush it back once the crew is on the ship. Also ensures this chase scene will go on for at least two more chapters. Talk about a long, dramatic chase scene.

@850 "Pudding is really great at acting"
@876 "LOL JK she's totally bipolar and can't help it LOL"
But she didn't like Sanji, so it was easier for her to act at first. But now that she likes him, she's conflicted. But instead of being subtly conflicted, she's gone crazy because anime.
And, come on, no one else felt great about seeing a woman finally foam at the mouth for Sanji? His unrequited affection for the past 800 chapters has finally ended. It's great.
it's a cartoony reaction at best,no matter how slow the turn is you can't really do this kind of 180 over someone that just compliment a part of your body you are ashamed of…nobody in the real world is this shallow..let alone someone like they pudding we saw until that point
People in the real world are this shallow and I wouldn't necessarily say its a bad thing, cause well you can't change how you feel. Have you never been in love? Especially phony teenage love? There are millions people out there who go from despising someone to absolutely falling head over heels because of one seemingly insignificant moment. Sometimes the situation is as simple as "Oh you like me?! Well then I suddenly like you to." It's stupid sure and often never lasts(certainly not with me) but that ship is real life, especially when someone perceives themselves or something about themselves as negative and someone comes along and looks at it as an endearing quality.
So Pudding is a tsundere now. How nice. -_-
Also, while Sanji baking the cake to save the day does make logical sense, I still find it both predictable and boring.
I swear, the Wano arc can't get here soon enough.
Later during Wano arc: "Elbaf can't get here soon enough."
Later during Wano arc: "Elbaf can't get here soon enough."
Elbaf: "Raftel can't get here soon enough"
Raftel: "The final war can't get here soon enough"
Final war: "Whole Cake was the last decent arc"
I am loving just about everything thats going on. All thats missing for me is Sanji getting something of a decisive fight or for someone with a name to themselves to cross him while he is baking the cake and is then destroyed.
So many are upset by a cake saving the day which is too bad. I look at the last page and seeing Sanji ready to prove something through cooking gives me good feels!
Later during Wano arc: "Elbaf can't get here soon enough."
lol It's true! Arc fatigue sets in every time!
Maybe the reason Katakuri hasn't one shotted Brook and Chopper is because he secretly wants to join the crew lol
I'm glad many people liked the extreme tsundere personality Pudding exhibited in this chapter. I personally had a good laugh out of those Pudding panels.
Big Mom gnawing her way out of the hole was a crazy sight.
And I didn't notice it at first but a One Piece theorist on YouTube pointed out that Sanji had a sinister look on his face in the last panel of the chapter when he announces that "he'll make a cake that'll make Big Mom faint." Looks like we're going to see the fruits of Sanji's Newkama Kenpo training.
Also, while Sanji baking the cake to save the day does make logical sense, I still find it both predictable
Can people seriously stop it with the predictable bullshit? Like I know for a fact that most people here would be extremely clueless about the cake-thing if Greg didn't state the obvious through story observations, and clues.
WE GET IT. You guys just wanted a boiled down action scene that looks cool instead of something that is creative because god forbid Oda tries something, and doesn't take the usual boring route for the people who lack attention span to understand what is happening.
So calm your balls already, and stop blaming Oda just because he didn't serve you a shitty action scene where Sanji throws kicks for 100 chapters straight.
Jesus reading through this thread is like sitting with the brain-dead crowd of Transformers movie that will be impressed as long as they get low-effort crap.
@.access:
Sanji is trying to get rid of the SH to prevent his friends from fighting BM and her crew: "Sanji doesn't trust Luffy, this is ridiculous!"
Sanji trusts the crew to fight BM and her crew and is off to help somewhere else: "Sanji doesn't care about his friends, this is ridiculous!"
You would have a point if that shift in trust in his crewmates was highlighted in this chapter as some kind of development, not as something given for Sanji´s character.
Basically he does not trust his crewmates to be up to the task because the arc needs to happen and then he suddenly trusts them to be up to the task because he has to bake the cake.
Later during Wano arc: "Elbaf can't get here soon enough."
Elbaf: "Raftel can't get here soon enough"
Raftel: "The final war can't get here soon enough"
Final war: "Whole Cake was the last decent arc"
We all know that's exactly what's going to happen, though
Wano could be an amazing arc, but it will still have the whiny people whining about how every chapter isn't filled with big revelations, or battles or anything they want because people are still under the impression that Oda simply writes to pander to whatever garbage they want, instead of Oda having his own vision, and story to tell.
General rule of thumb:
Was the latest chapter good? "This entire arc had been amazing!"
Was the latest chapter bad? "This entire arc has been terrible!"
andd hearth of darkness who constantly whinies about the whiners…
I found this chapter to be decent. I've enjoyed Whole Cake Island so far. Both Zou and WCI are a breath of fresh air from Dressrosa. There are definitely some flaws - Smoothie, for example, being useless so far and cast aside, but IMO people who say they're seeing a "quality drop" in the series because of this arc alone are incredibly nitpicky. You simply can't expect every chapter to be filled to the brim with battles and epic reveals. There are always going to be transition chapters that help advance the plot. I understand that many of those who want the plot to move at a quicker pace are clearly hyped for Wano. But if Oda speeds everything up here just for Wano, I have a feeling it's going to turn out as messy as Dressrosa was. And we certainly don't want that.
I don't really care for Pudding, but I don't find her to be that annoying either. Every arc there are going to be characters that don't meet your expectations. I am more surprised that some were hoping the "bake a cake" thing could be avoided. I don't think Oda's going to waste all this build-up of action. Streusen will wake up soon, and Pudding's going to find out about Big Mom's past. Luffy + Co. are going to arrive at the Sunny, and there's certainly going to be a clash (hence why Sanji wasn't worried for Brook and Chopper). I'm guessing that Oda's going to get Smoothie involved in the cake-baking process - probably more showdowns that'll be as wonderfully chaotic as ever
The hyper-nitpicking I see in this forum gets irritating, but eh, we'll always have to agree to disagree with some people. I'm going to continue enjoying this arc and what's to come, and hopefully people won't be so quick to vouch for a knee-jerk reaction every goddamn time.
this was one of the worst chapters in the last years.
It's incredible how oda is giving everything he can to show how incompetent or just inoffensive big moms members are. katakuri, who is portrayed as very scrupulous, waits there doing nothing while chopper and brook fight… what's the sense of this? of course pure plot convenience.
also pudding is more and more annoying, her character is not interesting at all. and the whole idea of baking a cake at the same time when mom is rampaging is absurd.
even in chaptee 773 when oda showed cavendish split personality i saw better pace and epicness than with this chapter. im okey with chapter transitions but this, chapter was 12 pages about the same gag. boring but thats my opinion

Exactly how I've been feeling through this thread. Can't people take these transition chapters for what they are and hope that the following week the story will move faster again? I haven't liked the slow pace we've had during this chase, but the general outline of the story is very cohesive, has been solidly built up, and is unfolding slowly but pleasantly. Honestly, I'm feeling more and more inclined to read chapters at volume-pace instead of weekly and only commenting in the general threads, because unless the story is flowing like in Zou where every single chapter had a new mystery, development and/or revelation, there will be bitching about it.
We Toriko now? /16chars
Personally, I've been enjoying OP less and less over the last couple of years and it scares the hell out of me.
I can appreciate Oda trimming the fat at parts, but the way he does it does not sit well with me.
I still don't get it how wano and reverie start in 2017. Cake island ending is very slow and still has more then enough things to solve before it ends. And there like what, 12 chapters left from 2017?

Wano will officially start the week before Christmas, when jump takes its holidays off, and resume first week of January 2018.

I don't think they will. Oda and/or his editor seem to have underestimated how long this arc has left. At the very least, I don't think we'll get both Reverie and Wano this year (unless Reverie is just a one chapter sneak peak).

I mean it wasn't Oda that said it. Even if he directly did, these things are loose estimates, not exact dates. He said "a crewmember would die" at Jump Festa years before the one that would(Going Merry).
Going by the fact that they're doing Wano-celebration stuff in Japan around October/November could indicate it'll be around then that we get to Wano. However, I honestly think it'll be right at the end of the year.
I could also see this arc ending, the crew arriving at Wano in late October/November, only to cut to the Reverie as the Strawhat's arrive at Wano. We'll likely be shown it with Vivi being the main "protagonist" and I honestly don't see it being more than 4 or 5 chapters max. So I do think it's likely that we'll "get to Wano" only to cut to the Reverie for a month and a half or so.
I will say and repeat it again after reading the chapter. MY thoughts from the spoiler thread.
Childish and absolutely terrible chapter.
One team is going to go get the ingredients, bake a cake, bring it back and what not… (Mind you Sanji will be baking a cake for a Yonkou not his captain also...)
While the other team fights for their lives, ship, friends... Sanji?
I mean this stuff is all over the place and I am not sure if I wanna see either this cake being made, or how the rest of the team will try to stay alive meanwhile... not to mention the completely bizzare moment when they bring the cake and BM adores them and what not...
So once again Childish and utterly disappointing chapter, which for me takes One Piece on a road we have maybe been expecting, but definitely not the one I personally wish to walk on
It's like Oda thought "let's give Pudding a flying carpet sidekick" so that she can travel from A to B to make a cake really easily. It feels like most of the characters are kinda like fodder just used to advance the plot, but not actually contribute anything interesting. Other than Mom's flashback I feel as though everything has gone downhill since the multiple Luffys crashed the party. Everything used to advance the plot just isn't interesting or is really obvious. Lola's sister, the vivre card ripped in half to help escape, the Tamatebako, the doppelgangers….
Knowing that Zou is up ahead just makes this arc drag on even more, I wish Oda hadn't of mentioned it. I wonder what reception Whole Cake Island is getting in Japan. Ceasar and Brook are the saving grace.
My initial impression was that I was not liking the direction with Pudding's character. I guess I already knew that she was heading to save Sanji so my problem really lies with her originally starting to fall in love with him in the first place. It's just very obvious to me as I see them interact together. I forgive it simply because it progresses the plot. I am curious to see the result of all this, though. I am wondering what Jelly Bean saw in his prediction. I had no other reactions or thoughts for this chapter.

I don't really appreciate Pudding, don't wanna see her on Sunny's board with Mugiwara crew.
I agree with you on this. She is best left as a forgotten memory, like Vivi. The only difference, is that Vivi doesn't deserve that, and will thankfully play an important role in the Reverie, I hope.

Man, the negativity in these chapter threads is seriously dampening my enjoyment of One Piece -.- I personally enjoyed both the chapter in general and Pudding specifically.
We are not responsible for the dampening of your enjoyment due to our feelings of the recent chapter. I think it can be agreed that this chapter is just an alright chapter, nothing too bad, nothing too great, and I don't mind it. I respect that you enjoyed it though, that's fine.
Given Oda's recent comments about wanting to do a true sea battle, I'm wondering if we'll get it here as the Strawhats try and meet Sanji halfway. I'd imagine the Sun Pirates will get involved(Given Brook and Chopper saw a Merman), but by that point they'll likely just hold off the other ships as the Strawhats have a final go against Big Mom.
No monster Chopper? I rate 1/10!
Nah. I suppose it wouldn't be good for the boat. But still… Monster Chopper!
Exactly how I've been feeling through this thread. Can't people take these transition chapters for what they are and hope that the following week the story will move faster again? I
To be honest, those who didn’t like this chapter, didn’t seem to like a lot of the previous ones so i don’t think it is a question of transition chapter.
Otherwise in jaimini translation, chiffon says that the cake will be used to distract big mum. So does it mean that they won’t wait for her to recover from her tantrum and make a truce but rather escape while she is busy eating her cake and recover from her foodgasm ?
I really liked the chapter, pudding is really conflicted on how to act (the actress doesn't know which script to follow in this situation), for me it was funny ,hope the anime does scene justice (the voice actors will i'm sure).
I was surprised she had wide mid range technique ,i wonder if she has more techniques and if we are going to see them in this arc ( against Big Mom or siblings maybe?).
I'm guessing the cake will be one 99 recipes he learned on Newkama kingdom (he only used one so far on Punk Hazard) so i can image the baking will be a bit unorthodox , Chiffon and Pudding will help with procedure by follow Sanji directions maybe.
Props to Brook and Chopper for facing a army by themselves.
I wonder if the cover is going to focus on Sai and Baby 5 relationship or just simply Sai getting more boats to join the fleet.
Yeah this thread really bring some of my enjoyment of chapter down a bit, some commentators here should really take a break from the series, starting reading something with negative mentally right from get go just sours reading experience no matter the subject at hand i feel.

I do agree with Kaido King of the Beasts. We still don't know how Big Mom will feel about the Straw Hats at the end of this. Remember that Katakuri went white in the face. It makes us think that he saw Big Mom defeated, but it might be something we are not considering as an outcome. Also consider that Luffy jumped into this when having an argument with Zoro. Half of Luffy's crew is there, which would lessen his effectiveness. Plus we have seen that he has had a hard time against them, they are tough. I feel like Oda is doing the best he can with the characters at his disposal. I felt this chapter was average but I too am thinking of the big picture. The question I am asking is: "How will Luffy's relationship with Big Mom change or remain? What will happen between Luffy and Zoro on Wano?"

I highly disagree. Stick with it, through the good, the bad, and everything in between.
This is still my favorite arc, but this chapter was so weird. I liked Pudding using her abilities, and her being so bipolar. I like Brook being amazing, and I liked that Pedro actually said something. But Pudding's bipolarism just took up too many panels. And I find it weird that Sanji just left everyone in extremely dangerous situations. Especially noticing Chopper and Brook who are definitely strong, but he has seen Katakuri and Perospero in action. Perospero to me at least is on par with the sweet commanders when it comes to skill. So seeing him basically ignoring their situation feels very un-Sanji. And I find it weird that Perospero and Katakuri are just standing there watching Brook and Chopper taking out the Piece Keepers. Okay, I understand Perospero doing that. He loves giving speeches. But Katakuri?
ANYWAY. I hope that the Strawhats running away and the Swirley Bakers baking the cake will be similar to the Brook rescue mission. Basically a montage, where we see Big Mom doing extreme damage, the Strawhats evading and the Chefs chopping and baking.
Also, doesn't it take more than an hour to actually bake the dough?
So does it mean that they won’t wait for her to recover from her tantrum and make a truce but rather escape while she is busy eating her cake and recover from her foodgasm ?
Pretty much that. Sanji even says he is gonna make a cake that will knock her down.
