Wow. I'm surprised it has reached ears overseas. I thought it was fairly geographically contained.

I don’t know if you have the answer to this, but how is the live action team handling the news about these allegations?

No comment, sorry T_T

Should I take it as a bad sign that mackenyu is not in the photo when he should be in the first two episodes and sanji is there but should not be in the first two episodes??
-
I think it's fine for Sanji and Usopp to be there. Is a bit more concerning that Zoro isn't though.
-
I wonder if that has to do with his agency. He has been the least active of the 5. Even in other pre-production photos of all of them hanging out.
-
Cowboy Bebop had already finished shooting when last year geeked week went out and they just announced Yoko participation on the intro, One Piece wont be finished until july/august, we are getting nothing important there.

Keen. Oh the stories I have for someday when I'm old and fading….

I never took the chance to say anything about his casting here on AP, but I'm SO happy Jeff Ward was cast as Buggy.
The only thing I've seen him in is Agents of SHIELD. But he was a character introduced in season 5 that stole the show, and was a major character until the show ended in season 7.
And while he certainly didn't play a pirate clown, after seeing what he did in his role on AOS, I'm very happy with this casting.
I'm certain he got the audition for this thanks to Matt Owens, who also worked on Agents of shield.

a little update since we been gone for a minute, awhile back the actor for Kid luffy was announced
The actress for Rika has been announced aswell
Here's Inaki with Alexander Maniatis (Kuro)
-
Now, I'm curious how they're gonna do Kuro's katana gloves.
-
Just seen the fan poster for those who have been announced already. Waiting on Patty, Bellmere, Moji, Johnny, Yosaku, Gin, Beckman and Krieg.

Which fan poster?

@Kaiolino This

There's a strong rumor that the show was shortened to 8 epi, i thought 10 wasn't enough but could work but now i'm worried they will rush a lot.
Wheel of time was a big disappointment, was so rushed that everything felt superficial. -
Main unit filming is done:

Thanks! That seems a little out of date because there's been a bunch of announcements since then.
-
@StuckWithInsomniac That's not good. I hadn't heard that, but I don't like it at all.
-
Zeff's actor fits him so perfectly its such a perfect glove
-
Now for the FX departments to do their magic.
-
I just want a gorram picture! I did a little research and they didn't show any pictures of Cowboy Bebop until a few months before release, so it might be a while..
-
Those eventual promo shots and trailers better look amazing considering they put like no money toward known names with grabbing power.
-
So with filming wrapped up, here's a question. How would you react if they cut Smoker and Tashigi from this and replaced their roles with Garp, Cooby and Helmeppo for the finale? Obviously not giving them the Smoke-Smoke Fruit but having them be the Marines that appear in Loguetown, after the series has followed them throughout the season from Shells Town?
-
It wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but I wouldn't be very happy about it either. I don't see any reason for that, plus Smoker and Tashigi are both fan favorites. If you want to cut characters to save time, I feel like there are other ones that are less necessary or vital.
-
@Riddler yeah having Sham casted but skipping Tashigi and Smoker would really piss off a lot of ppl
-
I don't see them cutting Smoker and Tashigi they both play pivotal parts in Loguetown for two of our main characters it wouldn't make sense to cut them
-
I think they could still be added later in Alabasta. It depends on how they want to handle the Garp / Coby stuff. Will they show the cover stories? If they do the Buggy one at least concludes at Logue Town but the Coby one doesn't. From a story telling structure for this season it might make sense to have The Coby stuff also return in LogueTown, even if it means bringing the Luffy Grandpa reveal forward and having him take Smokers place in stopping Luffy.
They also might not, I just think its odd we haven't even got a whiff of a rumour of who is playing either Smoker or Tashigi when we basically do for every other character.
-
There's still time to announce them, we don't have Krieg yet, so there's definitely still more to announce

Yeah, no reason to cut important characters now.
Smoker is important for the audience to see Roger had such gravitas that even a boy that would become a Marine was in awe of him.
And it establishes the first Marine that sees something more in Luffy and decides to go after him, it's the StrawHats first recurring "enemy".Coby and Garp can easily be shown on the last episode as the going Merry enters Reverse Mountain and we get a few scenes showing how the people we've met during the season are doing.

Biggest thing I'm worried about atm is the wigs they are obviously using for Nami and Sanji and probably others and also clothes. There's a thin line making some of the flashy colors and outfits work in rl. Just in general I'm very anxious to get some in character shots soon hopefully. But on the other hand... I really liked the Cowboy Bebop promo pictures and that ended in disappointment...
I did not read the whole thread but there have been test screenings and two different sources weren't so happy with what they saw. One of them mentioned Coby's hair being really bad and Mackenyu being the best actor of the bunch. Are we allowed to talk about the allegations against him here...?
-
@Nami there's not much to talk about regarding that really. He hasn't been arrested nor is he under investigation plus alot of it has come out to he fabricated lies
-
@Nami Do you have a link to the test screening news? I haven't seen anything like that

The allegations all came from one Japanese YouTuber who has a reputation of being a scammer, has already openly expressed that he has grudges against Mackenyu, and is currently hiding in Dubai. Take that how you will.
-
From what I was able to gather the talks of a test screenings came from a discord regarding One Piece live action.
The mods banned the source as they been banned before for lying/banned already plenty of times.
-
-
"In fact, she was already familiar with the source material having read the manga to her son." Awww, this made my day.
-
Just a minor post. I haven't heard of Mackenryu before the series was announced, and looking him up, I learned he's the son of Sonny Chiba? That's badass.
-
Yeah, I learn about that awhile ago. It's still a cool thing to know about.
-
No Don Krieg announcement yet.
-
I gotta say despite all of the news and such, I still do not have high hopes for this. Of course I'd love for it to succeed, but I'm in the camp that thinks One Piece just isn't meant for live action and this is going to end up like Cowboy Bebop.
Please let me be proven wrong.
-
it takes godsend level of creativity to make this anything close to being able to be taken seriously and still retain the original's source sincerity.
So yeah, it will be beyond groundbreaking if this succeeds without us, the fans, detaching it from the source material. -
An hour of Matt Owens talking about the pitfalls of live action anime adaptations.
-
Matt seems to know full steam what to avoid and he understands the source material, i really do have high hopes for this live action

Bebop's biggest mistep is they horribly, horribly miscast Vicious and then gave him and Julia half the screentime. Every time the story cut to them and their new-to-this-version story, the quality dropped tremendously.
Everything with Spike Jett and Faye was pretty good, the backgrounds and music were good and the visuals were on budget. It was close to being a good adaptation and becoming it's own thing, but someone on staff was a fan of the "Julia is actually evil" theory and well, every minute of that suplot dragged the show. It was like 60% of a good show.
It's not fair to complain about Ed given they just did one 20 second scene with her they were obviously pressured into and spent no time on.
-
Filming ended in August, so I expect post production to last through most of Spring next year. Maybe a teaser by April/May ish. With a possible Fall release.
Casting and showrunners doing their usual promo/media tour to instill confidence doesn't move me. I'll get a clue when the trailer drops as usual.
-
^all of this
MJ eating popcorn -
I hope Zoro says his attack names in Japanese even in the English dub version. Would sound cooler.
-
Oda has said they're watching rough cuts of the live action and that so far it's 'awesome'!
