The moment the democrats start protesting this they'll be depicted as the out of touch party party obsessed with transgender bathrooms again.
It was unavoidable. The current DNC are about as clueless at PR as the neocons were during the Bush era.

Ah, so that's what a Neocon is.
Until now I'd only known the word as the title of a short Offspring track.
"we are strong, we are right
we won't be pushed aside
we'll go on, we will fight
we will not compromise
we will never lose to you"
The context of the lyrics definitely seems to fit lol
I'm personally and totally all out for that revocation, not because I'm a bigot and conservative garbage, but because public bathrooms are made for sexes(not for genders), and creating third party public bathrooms is rather swimming into special treatment more than granting constitutional rights.
I believe transgenders should use whatever the bathroom they feel like to use, people who support transgender-bathrooms are likely homophobic and uncomfortable with their presence. If you don't feel uncomfortable with them using the same bathroom as you, what's the rush into throwing them somewhere else then?
But the guidelines was about letting trans people use the bathroom they want to. I saw nothing about having a special separate bathroom there
It was unavoidable. The current DNC are about as clueless at PR as the neocons were during the Bush era.
How is the DNC responsible for this. They are virtually irrelevant.
Also the Bush PR machine was one of the very best.
Too bad public urination gets you on the sex offender registry in many places.
Where? Probably varies from state to state, but it's generally indecent exposure and a misdemeanor, but not a sex offense (it is if they intended the exposure to minors). Sex offenders often spout this myth to hide the fact they're a pedophile.

I am glad you think trans people should use the bathroom they feel most comfortable in, though.
To add something positive to this shitshow, this is the response the issue is getting.
I legitimately teared up when I got to Chris Evans…

Republican law makers trying to prove how sub human they are.
Of course this punishment only applies to women. They aren't getting pregnant by themselves.
Several days later, commenting on his statement which caused widespread public outrage, Pearce stuck by his position, saying he didn’t understand “what all the fuss was about,” adding “I was holding back pretty hard when I said what I did.”
I like how he answered his own question but remains oblivious.
Asked to elaborate to see how far he would go, the former lawmaker argued, “Finding employment as a condition for having children, using alcohol and drugs is not even half of it. Right now our biggest problem are food stamps and that’s the part of the story nobody seems to want to deal with.”
It's very difficult to deal with a problem that doesn't exist. Food stamps are a bigger problem than alcohol and drugs? Since when?
“A lot of lazy people seem to have mistaken the government for a charity. That’s not how things were meant to work,” Pearce said.
Finally some transparency, he just doesn't like poor people and wants to make their lives miserable.
“And food stamps are draining the budget faster than it takes a drunkard to kill a bottle of whiskey. And this is not the case with Arizona alone, this is going on nationwide. We need to put this under control or else we’re looking at bankruptcy. And everybody is making jokes about it instead of trying to find a solution. Well, I have.”
Seriously, it's like this guy just stumbled over here from some alternate universe where there's some great food stamp epidemic going on. Nobody was talking about this before he brought it up, nobody was making jokes about it before he mentioned it. Meanwhile he's fine with using alcoholism, an actual problem you could make a case for and something he evidently has no issue with, as an analogy to justify his little food stamp crusade. A nationwide crisis that could potentially make the country bankrupt? It's truly amazing how he can act like something as obvious as that would go totally unnoticed.
Pearce then went on to explain how “we need to limit food stamp access to women who have been sterilized,” and how “that’s the only way of separating the ones who are willing to work for food from those who aren’t.”
That's the only way to distinguish between those who are working from those who are not? Wouldn't the issue here be unemployment? Sterilizing women doesn't even match the case of the great food stamp epidemic he's trying to make. He also seems to think everyone who uses food stamps is unemployed, or that all unemployed people use food stamps, neither of which are true. He would know this if he knew what he was talking about.
“In order to be able to feed a baby, you first need to be able to feed yourself.
This is actually a decent point, with common sense. What's going on?
What can I say, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
And we're back to petty nonsense. Pearce acts like food stamps are some sort of free pass to any five star restaurant one chooses or something. It's like he doesn't understand what their purpose is, or is using it as a smokescreen to serve a greater agenda, or both.
“Bottom line – if you want food stamps, you’re going to have to be sterilized,” Pearce summarized his proposition. “Of course, there’s also another aspect to this, perhaps even a more obvious one. If you’re already poor enough to be looking for food stamps, that means you’re incapable of being successful in our society for whatever reason. And if you’re unfit to be productive, and this might sound a bit harsh, but the fact to the matter is, we don’t need those kind of genes. We don’t need any more lazy people, so it’s actually a good thing you’ll have to be sterilized. Look, think of it in terms of being able to have all the unprotected sex you want without having to worry about pregnancy ever again. I’m telling you, it’ll be a hoot,” he concluded.
This is really all he needed to say. He thinks the poor are just good for nothing failures who deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth. Now why would anyone make a fuss about that? It's terrifying to find out this man was a senator. I honestly wonder what his reaction would be if people started dropping dead in the streets from starvation. He'd probably condemn them for that too. I imagine him saying something like "do you have any idea how much it will cost to dispose of all those bodies? How inconsiderate of them."
Also, this is disgusting.
I think the Democrats need to run on the idea that the GOP are anti-children.
I never understood the logic behind charging kids for that, who aren't eligible for jobs and thus don't really have a disposable income. I really fucking resent Republicans using taxpayers as a scapegoat too. The whole point of taxes is to provide important services that benefit the greater community. If kids are going to spend most of their day at school, food should be provided there. Lets say there is some sort of fraud going on, the consequence of it is kids going to school and eating the food there. So the worst thing about this is kids doing exactly what they should be doing? Am I understanding this correctly?
I'm going to say something, I can't believe it needs to be said, but i'm going to. There's nothing anyone can say that makes letting people go hungry okay. Republicans in favor of this reform are nothing but a bunch of heartless ghouls.
What's next? Are they going to attempt to charge the homeless for services from soup kitchens and shelters? Because at this point I would be surprised if they didn't do that.

Gotcha, 12 states. Even so, it'd be interesting to see how much they actually put people on the offender registry for such, since doing all that rigmarole just for public urination is ridiculous.
But I'm probably taking this off tangent a bit. Long story short: public restrooms are nice.

I can assure you public urinating in CT isn't rigidly enforced.
Or it exists on the books to bust people who try to use it as an excuse to expose themselves.

Boehner has been in a Pope triggered soul searching fugue state since he hopped out of congress.
@MDL:
But isn't the point of public bathrooms to allow people to relieve themselves without accident if they can't make it home?
You'd be dooming a lot of people, including those with medical conditions or illnesses, to a lot of embarrassing/disgusting incidents.
I didn't think of that. I posted that idea out of spiteful anger, and wishing to forcibly make people feel empathy . I don't think if could really ever happen, but still it's frustrating seeing people nearly get a civil right only to have it taken away. You just can't do that.
On a lighter note, while I'm not watching CPAC I do love the drama I'm hearing in the news. At the very least, it's painting an image of a party in power falling apart, and at this point I wouldn't mind that. Though I don't think it's realistic, I'd like to dream.

What's really kinda stupid besides whatever else he said. Is the sterilization part. It takes soooo much work and time to being approved for volunteering to be sterilized if you're female. The government will do everything to make it difficult in getting that done. Psych evaluations medial exams waiting upon waiting. It's insane. If you've never had kids before it's even morevof a hassle.
This was actually kind of fun to watch. Laughter in the background really adds some levity to this discussion of how the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is really just like an impetuous child.
Okay this literally just happened. Trump revokes Obama guidelines on transgender bathrooms Now, putting my frustration aside, I think I have a solution to this whole mess. Let's just get rid of public bathrooms. This way things are fair to everyone, and considering that every reason against this bill actually does apply to normal people then clearly these things are more trouble than they're worth. I'm going to push this idea from now on until things get better.
This will be the only good thing to come out of Trump's presidency. I love Obama, but what he did was wrong.
Remember that media accountability survey Trump's team had where they asked if people agreed the media was lying? That didn't get the result they wanted so here's another one!
Here is attempt NUMBER THREE.

Full of questions such as
On which issues does the mainstream media do the worst job of representing Republicans? (Select as many that apply.)
Do you believe that the media unfairly reported on President Trump’s executive order temporarily restricting people entering our country from nations compromised by radical Islamic terrorism?
Were you aware that a poll was released revealing that a majority of Americans actually supported President Trump's temporary restriction executive order?
Do you believe that the media creates false feuds within our Party in order to make us seem divided?
Do you believe that if Republicans were obstructing Obama like Democrats are doing to President Trump, the mainstream media would attack Republicans?
Make sure to take a couple minutes to fill it out but don't leave your real email address!

Letting the states decide on this isn't better by any stretch since many red states have shown a willingness to do certain things they feel is justified by their religious (or supposedly religious) beliefs. Just look at how North Carolina trying to restrict trans people from using the bathrooms they want played out for the state.

Well you have my "vote." Not as funny as Funk's but still not taking this crap. I'll forward this to everyone I know.

Thank you for the information, I admit I don't know anything about the intricacies of the sterilization process. But even I can see the idea Pearce speaks of is batshit crazy, i'm not underestimating that. Pearce's candidness about believing people should be cleansed from society altogether got under my skin too. That combined with the article Bugs posted is another example of the narrative of the GOP targeting people perceived as vulnerable, and taking away any benefits they receive. I'm just really sick of seeing that kind of brazen callousness over and over. I also take exception to Republicans doing this kind of thing under the guise of doing taxpayers any favors. The implication they're doing this for my sake makes me feel dirty.
The best part by far is that when you finish, it takes you to a page asking for donations to combat the big bad evil media. Quite literally.
@Serra:
"Made for sexes" doesn't make much sense. No one is checking genitals before they enter a bathroom. Makes much more sense for female looking persons to go to the women's bathroom and male looking persons to go to the men's bathroom.
I am glad you think trans people should use the bathroom they feel most comfortable in, though.
Public bathrooms are in fact made for sexes, there is a reason you find urinals on Men's bathroom but not on women's, they were built based on the two existing sexual organs man and woman possess.
Now in a different but related matter, allowing someone who feels better/more comfortable to use the bathroom he/she feels like is the one that fits better for her/him regardless of their biological sexuality, should not represent a problem at all. and I personally find both options; throwing them into a third bathroom or forbid them to use the bathroom that goes with the sexual identity they've chosen to be plain discriminatory.
@Cyan:
Spitting game and talking shit.

Bravo.
It should also be pointed out, and I didn't realize this… this is the THIRD attempt.
The first version didn't attempt to verify email addresses or names, so it was possible to fill it out multiple times, the second changed a question or two to make it harder to answer a way they didn't like--this one requires your computer to accept cookies from their system. (so maybe clear your cookies from the last hour too, didn't realize that part.)

On which issues does the mainstream media do the worst job of representing Republicans?
I can honestly say Pro-life values and Religion because the media pretends that the GOP actually gives a rat's ass about those things.
Do you believe that the mainstream media does not do their due diligence fact-checking before publishing stories on the Trump administration?
Other: Yes because they occasionally give him the benefit of the doubt rather than just writing it off as an obvious lie.
Do you believe that the media unfairly reported on President Trump’s executive order temporarily restricting people entering our country from nations compromised by radical Islamic terrorism?
Other: Yes, because they didn't condemn it nearly enough for the blatantly unAmerican motive of Islamophobic hatemongering that was behind said order.
Were you aware that a poll was released revealing that a majority of Americans actually supported President Trump's temporary restriction executive order?
Other: A strawpoll.com link posted on /pol/ does not constitute a scientific survey.
Do you agree with the President’s decision to break with tradition by giving lesser known reporters and bloggers the chance to ask the White House Press Secretary questions?
I'm not surprised; even softball questions would be too hard for him to hit. Teeball all the way, baby!
This will be the only good thing to come out of Trump's presidency. I love Obama, but what he did was wrong.
What are you talking about?
What are you talking about?
I think it's in reference to Obama's order to withhold federal funding to schools that discriminate against transgender students.
I kind of agree, more because I think it legitimately was overreach on the government's part.
@Cyan:

What, tell the states to cut the shit when it comes to basic civil rights?.
Forcing others to bend to your will is wrong on every level. Threatening to pull funding? As if 90% of these schools aren't struggling enough. It's not okay to attack children's education because of a school's policy.
A lot of things shouldn't be left to the states'. Civil rights is one of them
This is not a civil right of theirs. Forcing people to cater to you specifically is not a right anyone has. Having "trans" people use the bathroom that matches their biological sex, or one that's not specifically created for the opposite sex does not oppress them. There are parents who don't feel comfortable with their children sharing a bathroom with someone of the opposite sex, and children who hold the same sentiment and that should be respected regardless of any disagreement.
Not that long ago there were parents who didn't feel comfortable with their children sharing a bathroom with someone of a different race, and children who held the same sentiment. Should they have been respected regardless of any disagreement?
Eh, threatening to withhold federal funding isn't a new tactic from the government. Both the legal driving age and the legal drinking age are established by states, but the federal government mandates guidelines for them by withholding funds for road repairs if they don't comply. I think there might be some oversight given by the Commerce Clause too but that's beside the point. No one sees that sort of regulation as draconian overreach, and anything sensible protecting the civil rights of children shouldn't be considered overreach either.
Forcing others to bend to your will is wrong on every level. Threatening to pull funding? As if 90% of these schools aren't struggling enough. The fact that you're putting trans in quotes and delineating people solely by their sex at birth tells me that you don't understand or have no interest in being sympathetic to the issue, so I won't put a lot of effort into persuading you. But this needs a response nonetheless.
The comparison you're looking at here is between people feeling uncomfortable around someone who might look a little different, and the active discrimination that trans people receive on a systemic and personal level. Even if we ignore that fact that trans people often look more like their chosen gender than their birth one, which means that they would fit in even less well in the bathroom you're assigning them to, you're basically saying that the minor discomfort and narrow-minded views of a few people are more important than the mental health and well-being of someone who struggles to be accepted by society.
Because that's what it comes down to: trans people just want to be respected and given the freedom to act as they choose, just as you have that freedom. They don't have any sort of sinister agenda, and they're not looking to harm or abuse anyone as conservative sources would have you believe. They just want to be accepted and included.
Bravo.
It should also be pointed out, and I didn't realize this… this is the THIRD attempt.
Wait, 3rd? Is it the same I posted just a few pages back, or was that the third attempt as well? If not, that was a really quick time to look at the data and make another survey.
I'm sincerely unsure just where I fall on the transgender bathroom issue. I can understand why people would be nervous/uncomfortable about it.
On the other hand, anything that would be happening would be happening in the privacy of a stall so it doesn't really matter.
I've seen conservatives claim that sexual deviance would occur, but that rings hollow given the Republican party has more bathroom based sex scandals to their name than any given transgender group.

You know its funny but these same arguments seem to keep existing, but the subject of them changes over the years.
Yet the people who cart them out just have the darndest repeating amnesia about this.
